Today's Verse : Isaiah 1:17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 17, 2008

VERSE:
Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend
the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
-- Isaiah 1:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+1:17

THOUGHT:
"A man's got to take care of himself!" Yeah, we do have to be
responsible folks. But, part of being responsible, part of being
blessed -- at least as God sees it -- is to care for others, to
stick up for the disadvantaged, and to intervene when someone else
is being exploited. After all, we are our "brother's and sister's
keeper!"

PRAYER:
Remove the heart of selfishness, O God, that keeps me from
caring for the downtrodden, abused, forgotten, and broken. Give me
your eyes of concern and Jesus' heart of compassion to see them and
minister to them. In his name, the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Receive Forgiveness

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Receive Forgiveness
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name. Acts 10:43 NIV

If you don't know it yet, you can receive forgiveness. Oh, you're exactly right if your thinking that I don't know your past. I don't. And, thankfully, you don't know mine.

You could be reading this from prison right now, as you serve on death row. You could be in the middle of an adulterous affair. You could be cheating on your taxes; stealing from your company; living a lie. You could have committed sins to horrible to even mention to your spouse.

Whatever you've done, or are doing, it doesn't change this verse, and it doesn't change God's grace! You can be forgiven of your sins through Jesus Christ!

In fact, that is why He came. He didn't come just so we could have a Christmas holiday. He came because you and I are sinners, and we need salvation. He came to give us new life.

Forgiveness comes when we humbly as Him to forgive. It's that simple, yet it is one of the most powerful acts of His grace.

Is there anything for which you need forgiveness? Ask Him for it today! Then accept His free gift of forgiveness!

What a wonderful way to start a new year!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Stepping Out, by Tim Archer

It's called rappelling. It's the means by which you walk down a
near-vertical surface with the aid of a rope around your body. I was
fifteen when I did it. I don't think I'll do it again.

Let me state up front that I have some fear of heights. Not like the
lady I knew in Argentina that couldn't stand up when she was on the
ninth floor of an apartment building. But if I'm in a situation where I
can picture myself falling, I definitely experience heightened anxiety.

My rappelling episode started off with me having to walk off the top of
a cliff. Backwards. Slowly but surely I made my way down the rock face,
with an ever-growing appreciation of the power of prayer. About halfway
down, I saw one of the staff members from the camp that I was
participating in; he was perched on a nearby ledge. "You need to go to
your left," he told me. "That's easy for you to say," I thought to
myself. I was near a protrusion; going to my left meant stepping out in
space for a moment or two. Going to my right kept my feet on the solid
face of the mountain. You guessed it: I went to my right. Later, when I
was about fifteen feet from the bottom, I ran out of rope. By not
following the staff member's instructions, I had gotten the rope
snagged on a rock and could no longer reach my destination.

We have to go beyond what we can see and touch.

The ending to the story is less than dramatic; within five minutes or
so, the rope was freed and I was able to get down. But I often think
back to that moment of decision, when I had to choose between the
uncertainty of stepping out in space and the safety of what I could see
and feel. It helps me to sympathize with people who face that same
decision in their spiritual lives. How much easier it would be if we
could take God to the laboratory, place Him under a microscope and
prove His existence once and for all. How comforting it would be to
have an undeniable certificate of authenticity from God showing that
the Bible is true in every way. How convenient it would be if faith
were not required, if we could operate only on what we can see and
feel. But it's not that way; to find God we have to step out in faith.

Let me, like that camp staffer years ago, encourage you to step out in
space. Go beyond what our senses perceive and step out in faith. I and
many others can tell you that God is there, that He is real and He is
waiting for you. Take a chance, reach out and find Him; don't wait
until you reach the end of your rope!

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 41:14 and Daniel 9:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

MORNING:

"I will help thee, saith the Lord."
-- Isaiah 41:14

This morning let us hear the Lord Jesus speak to each one of us: "I
will help thee." "It is but a small thing for me, thy God, to help
thee. Consider what I have done already. What! not help thee? Why, I
bought thee with my blood. What! not help thee? I have died for thee;
and if I have done the greater, will I not do the less? Help thee! It
is the least thing I will ever do for thee; I have done more, and will
do more. Before the world began I chose thee. I made the covenant for
thee. I laid aside my glory and became a man for thee; I gave up my
life for thee; and if I did all this, I will surely help thee now. In
helping thee, I am giving thee what I have bought for thee already. If
thou hadst need of a thousand times as much help, I would give it thee;
thou requirest little compared with what I am ready to give. 'Tis much
for thee to need, but it is nothing for me to bestow. 'Help thee?' Fear
not! If there were an ant at the door of thy granary asking for help,
it would not ruin thee to give him a handful of thy wheat; and thou art
nothing but a tiny insect at the door of my all-sufficiency. 'I will
help thee.'"

O my soul, is not this enough? Dost thou need more strength than the
omnipotence of the United Trinity? Dost thou want more wisdom than
exists in the Father, more love than displays itself in the Son, or
more power than is manifest in the influences of the Spirit? Bring
hither thine empty pitcher! Surely this well will fill it. Haste,
gather up thy wants, and bring them here-thine emptiness, thy woes, thy
needs. Behold, this river of God is full for thy supply; what canst
thou desire beside? Go forth, my soul, in this thy might. The Eternal
God is thine helper!

"Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismay'd!
I, I am thy God, and will still give thee aid."

EVENING:

"The Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself."
-- Daniel 9:26

Blessed be his name, there was no cause of death in him. Neither
original nor actual sin had defiled him, and therefore death had no
claim upon him. No man could have taken his life from him justly, for
he had done no man wrong, and no man could even have lain him by force
unless he had been pleased to yield himself to die. But lo, one sins
and another suffers. Justice was offended by us, but found its
satisfaction in him. Rivers of tears, mountains of offerings, seas of
the blood of bullocks, and hills of frankincense, could not have
availed for the removal of sin; but Jesus was cut off for us, and the
cause of wrath was cut off at once, for sin was put away for ever.
Herein is wisdom, whereby substitution, the sure and speedy way of
atonement, was devised! Herein is condescension, which brought Messiah,
the Prince, to wear a crown of thorns, and die upon the cross! Herein
is love, which led the Redeemer to lay down his life for his enemies!

It is not enough, however, to admire the spectacle of the innocent
bleeding for the guilty, we must make sure of our interest therein. The
special object of the Messiah's death was the salvation of his church;
have we a part and a lot among those for whom he gave his life a
ransom? Did the Lord Jesus stand as our representative? Are we healed
by his stripes? It will be a terrible thing indeed if we should come
short of a portion in his sacrifice; it were better for us that we had
never been born. Solemn as the question is, it is a joyful circumstance
that it is one which may be answered clearly and without mistake. To
all who believe on him the Lord Jesus is a present Saviour, and upon
them all the blood of reconciliation has been sprinkled. Let all who
trust in the merit of Messiah's death be joyful at every remembrance of
him, and let their holy gratitude lead them to the fullest consecration
to his cause.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Voice Of The Nature Of God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 16, 2008

THE VOICE OF THE NATURE OF GOD

I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send?

Isaiah 6:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+6:8&sr=1

When we speak of the call of God, we are apt to forget the most
important feature, viz., the nature of the One Who calls. There is
the call of the sea, the call of the mountains, the call of the great
ice barriers, but these calls are only heard by the few. The call is
the expression of the nature from which it comes, and we can only
record the call if the same nature is in us. The call of God is the
expression of God's nature, not of our nature. There are strands of
the call of God providentially at work for us which we recognize and
no one else does. It is the threading of God's voice to us in some
particular matter, and it is no use consulting anyone else about it.
We have to keep that profound relationship between our souls and God.

The call of God is not the echo of my nature; my affinities and
personal temperament are not considered. As long as I consider my
personal temperament and think about what I am fitted for, I shall
never hear the call of God. But when I am brought into relationship
with God, I am in the condition Isaiah was in. Isaiah's soul was so
attuned to God by the tremendous crisis he had gone through that he
recorded the call of God to his amazed soul. The majority of us have
no ear for anything but ourselves, we cannot hear a thing God says.
To be brought into the zone of the call of God is to be profoundly
altered.

Praying with Paul : "The Sign of Righteousness"

THE SIGN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 4:6-12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+4:6-12

Dear Father,

Thank you that the words your servant David spoke apply to us:
"Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are
covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count
against him" (Psalm 32:1-2).

Thank you that you blessed Abraham before he was circumcised,
(while he was a Gentile!) so he could be the father of all who
believe. Thank you that he is the father not only of those who are
circumcised but of those who follow his example of faith.

Praise to you, God, for giving to Abraham circumcision as a sign
of the righteousness he had through faith before he was
circumcised.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- The Demons Even Confess -- Mark 1:23-24

The Demons Even Confess

While Jesus was in the synagogue, a man was there that had an
evil spirit {from the devil} inside him. The man shouted,
"Jesus of Nazareth! What do you want with us? Did you come to
destroy us? I know who you are--God's Holy One!"

-- Mark 1:23-24 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
One of the things that we will see again and again in the Gospel of
Mark is that the demons know who Jesus is: he is the Son of God. They
know he is more powerful than they: he casts them out and they obey his
commands. Jesus is stronger than Satan and he can defeat Satan and his
demonic cohorts. Even though the demons know who Jesus is, Jesus
doesn't permit them to spread the news because he doesn't want the
testimony of demons. Jesus will define his own identity by his life of
service offered to others and given to honor God.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, guard my heart from desiring titles, accolades, and earthly
notoriety. I know, dear Father, that Satan can use my pride to bring me
to ruin. I also know, dear God, that the evil one can twist my
reputation and use it to keep others from the Gospel. Holy Father,
please protect my reputation and guard my heart so that my life can be
used to bless others and help them know the truth about your Son. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
