God, Man, and Satan Working toward His Death

God, Man, and Satan Working toward His Death
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 22:1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called
the Passover, was drawing near. (2) And the chief priests and
the scribes were seeking a way to do away with Him, for they
feared the people. (3) And Satan entered into Judas who was
called Iscariot and was of the number of the twelve. (4) And he
went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers as
to how he might deliver Him up to them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While the Lord was preparing both Himself and His disciples for
His death, the opposers--the leaders in the Jewish community--
were busy looking for an opportunity to arrest Him and put Him
to death. The Lord's sovereignty was exercised here, for this
was the year in which Messiah had to be cut off, that is, the
year in which the preordained Savior had to die. The Son
prepared Himself to die. The Spirit and the Father were also
working to prepare the environment so that the Son would die on
the cross exactly according to what was prophesied and typified
in the old Testament.

In Luke 22 we see that while the Man-Savior was preparing
Himself to die, the opposers were busy with their plot, their
conspiracy At the same time, the enemy of God, Satan, also was
busy. In particular, Satan was actively using Judas Iscariot,
one of the twelve apostles appointed by the Man- Savior. Satan
instigated Judas' betrayal of the Lord Jesus. Satan injected
into Judas the thought of finding an opportunity to deliver the
Lord into the hand of those who wanted to kill Him. Therefore,
in this chapter we see both the plotting of the opposers and
the working of Satan. On the one hand, "the chief priests and
the scribes were seeking how they might do away with Him" (v.
2). On the other hand, "Satan entered into Judas, who was
called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went
away and conversed with the chief priests and officers as to
how he might deliver Him up to them" (vv. 3-4).

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Invited into the Family, by Tim Archer

You have been invited to become a member of God's family. I know that
sounds strange: ordinary humans entering into a relationship with the
God that created them. Yet that's exactly what God has offered us.
You'll hear this referred to in different ways: salvation, being born
again, coming to Jesus, becoming a Christian. While many other terms
are appropriate, I can best relate to the idea of coming into God's
family.

You see, God is a God of relationships. It was He that came looking for
man, not vice versa. The Bible tells us that it was love that motivated
God to reach out to man. It was God who first made the gesture of
trying to fix our broken relationship.

But what happened to our relationship with God? Why did it need fixing?
If He created us, why can't we all just be with Him? The way I
understand it, it all comes down to God's nature. For example, God is
light, so darkness cannot be where He is. God is truth, so all untruth
is away from Him. God is life, so death is banished from His presence.
And God is holy, God is pure, God is untouched by evil. Therefore
everyone who has sinned cannot live with God. And because we all have
sinned, we are disqualified from being in God's family.

Humans, imperfect as we are, can come to be included in God's family.

The stains that sin leaves last a lifetime ... and beyond. Only someone
who has never sinned can possibly take them away. That's why God sent
His son Jesus. Jesus came to earth and lived a life without sin. His
unjust death opened the way for us to receive the forgiveness of our
sins. We can let His death be the payment for our sins. His innocent
blood is able to wash away the stains of sin, allowing us to be holy
like God, allowing us to be adopted into God's family. This is the good
news that God has for mankind: through Jesus Christ and His death, God
has provided the way in which we can have a complete relationship with
Him.

Humans, imperfect as we are, can come to be included in God's family.
The apostle John wrote about Jesus: "Yet to all who received him, to
those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of
God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a
husband's will, but born of God." (John 1:12-13)

You've been invited into the family. It's a special invitation, just
for you. Invited to be part of the family of God. If you'd like to know

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 104:16 and John 13:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

MORNING:

"The trees of the Lord are full of sap."
-- Psalms 104:16

Without sap the tree cannot flourish or even exist. Vitality is
essential to a Christian. There must be life -a vital principle infused
into us by God the Holy Ghost, or we cannot be trees of the Lord. The
mere name of being a Christian is but a dead thing, we must be filled
with the spirit of divine life. This life is mysterious. We do not
understand the circulation of the sap, by what force it rises, and by
what power it descends again. So the life within us is a sacred
mystery. Regeneration is wrought by the Holy Ghost entering into man
and becoming man's life; and this divine life in a believer afterwards
feeds upon the flesh and blood of Christ and is thus sustained by
divine food, but whence it cometh and whither it goeth who shall
explain to us? What a secret thing the sap is! The roots go searching
through the soil with their little spongioles, but we cannot see them
suck out the various gases, or transmute the mineral into the
vegetable; this work is done down in the dark. Our root is Christ
Jesus, and our life is hid in him; this is the secret of the Lord. The
radix of the Christian life is as secret as the life itself. How
permanently active is the sap in the cedar! In the Christian the divine
life is always full of energy-not always in fruit- bearing, but in
inward operations. The believer's graces, are not every one of them in
constant motion? but his life never ceases to palpitate within. He is
not always working for God, but his heart is always living upon him. As
the sap manifests itself in producing the foliage and fruit of the
tree, so with a truly healthy Christian, his grace is externally
manifested in his walk and conversation. If you talk with him, he
cannot help speaking about Jesus. If you notice his actions you will
see that he has been with Jesus. He has so much sap within, that it
must fill his conduct and conversation with life.

EVENING:

"He began to wash the disciples' feet."
-- John 13:5

The Lord Jesus loves his people so much, that every day he is still
doing for them much that is analogous to washing their soiled feet.
Their poorest actions he accepts; their deepest sorrow he feels; their
slenderest wish he hears, and their every transgression he forgives. He
is still their servant as well as their Friend and Master. He not only
performs majestic deeds for them, as wearing the mitre on his brow, and
the precious jewels glittering on his breastplate, and standing up to
plead for them, but humbly, patiently, he yet goes about among his
people with the basin and the towel. He does this when he puts away
from us day by day our constant infirmities and sins. Last night, when
you bowed the knee, you mournfully confessed that much of your conduct
was not worthy of your profession; and even tonight, you must mourn
afresh that you have fallen again into the selfsame folly and sin from
which special grace delivered you long ago; and yet Jesus will have
great patience with you; he will hear your confession of sin; he will
say, "I will, be thou clean"; he will again apply the blood of
sprinkling, and speak peace to your conscience, and remove every spot.
It is a great act of eternal love when Christ once for all absolves the
sinner, and puts him into the family of God; but what condescending
patience there is when the Saviour with much long-suffering bears the
oft recurring follies of his wayward disciple; day by day, and hour by
hour, washing away the multiplied transgressions of his erring but yet
beloved child! To dry up a flood of rebellion is something marvellous,
but to endure the constant dropping of repeated offences-to bear with a
perpetual trying of patience, this is divine indeed! While we find
comfort and peace in our Lord's daily cleansing, its legitimate
influence upon us will be to increase our watchfulness, and quicken our
desire for holiness. Is it so?

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Viewpoint"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 24, 2007

THE VIEWPOINT

Now thanks be to God, which always causeth us to triumph
in Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+2:14&sr=1

The viewpoint of a worker for God must not be as near the highest as
he can get, it must be the highest. Be careful to maintain
strenuously God's point of view, it has to be done every day, bit by
bit; don't think on the finite. No outside power can touch the
viewpoint.

The viewpoint to maintain is that we are here for one purpose only,
viz., to be captives in the train of Christ's triumphs. We are not in
God's showroom, we are here to exhibit one thing - the absolute
captivity of our lives to Jesus Christ. How small the other points of
view are - I am standing alone battling for Jesus; I have to maintain
the cause of Christ and hold this fort for Him. Paul says - I am in
the train of a conqueror, and it does not matter what the
difficulties are, I am always led in triumph. Is this idea being
worked out practically in us? Paul's secret joy was that God took
him, a red-handed rebel against Jesus Christ, and made him a captive,
and now that is all he is here for. Paul's joy was to be a captive of
the Lord, he had no other interest in heaven or in earth. It is a
shameful thing for a Christian to talk about getting the victory. The
Victor ought to have got us so completely that it is His victory all
the time, and we are more than conquerors through Him.

"For we are unto God a sweet saviour of Christ." We are enwheeled
with the odour of Jesus, and wherever we go we are a wonderful
refreshment to God.

Mustard Seed Thought: Lay down Stone

I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I Am!" John 8:58 NIV

Abraham was the father of faith. When God looked for a man to lead a nation of His people, He looked to Abraham. Abraham said yes. He left his people, the homeland where he was raised, and headed out to an unknown land. Today we might say "big deal". Before the discovery of maps and atlases, or the invention of modern transportation or even roads, it was indeed a big deal! Abraham's faith to simply trust and obey is an example to all of us today.

Through Abraham God began the Jewish nation. Through Abraham came Isaac, Jacob, eventually Moses, the law, and one day David. Abraham, in spite of the fact that he and his wife Sarah were past the age of child-bearing, and had no children, believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Oh, Abraham was certainly a great man!

As great as Abraham was, Jesus was far greater! Imagine Jesus, the carpenter's son from Nazareth, standing before the Jews, who knew so much about their great patriarch Abraham, and telling them "before Abraham was born, I Am!" Can you say indignation? Can you say audacity? Can you say pompous? Can you imagine the ooh's and ah's? The Scripture tells us that after Jesus made this declaration the crowds picked up stones to stone Him.

This was actually a natural reaction. Think about it. What if I said someone was greater than your spouse, or greater than your children? What if I claimed I knew someone greater than your pastor; greater than your priest? I do! His name is Jesus. Can you see that this crowd was dealing with the same thing that you and I must deal with everyday? They were having to decide where to place Jesus in their lives; what priority to give Him. They weren't mean people necessarily. If Jesus had remained a simple carpenter's son they may have invited him to dinner, but when He claimed to be Christ; greater even than Abraham, then He forced the people to make a decision. They must decide: will I accept His testimony, or will I reject Him?

You and I must decide to! Jesus makes that claim to us! He is Supreme! He is greater than anything or anyone to whom you can attempt to compare Him. He will stand the test of time! You must, however, choose to accept or reject His claims! Is He the Christ? Is He the Great I AM? Is He the promised Messiah? Is the One True Son of God?

I've made my decision. I've laid down my stones and began picking up my crowns. One day I will lay them at His feet and sing with the angels and the saints "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Will you be with me when I sing to the King of kings?

ABOVE ALL, THROUGH ALL, IN ALL

Ephesians 4:5-7

Dear Father,

Thank you, Father, for the unity you have provided for us: the one
body, the one Spirit, the one hope that belongs to our calling, the
one Lord, the one faith, the one immersion - and the one God!

For you, our God, are the one and only God and Father of us all.
You are above all and through all and in all!

Thank you, holy God, for the measure of grace that you have given
to me that I should be part of your universal fellowship.

How gracious and good you are!

By Jesus' authority and in his name I boldly come to you, asking
all this. Amen.

Only God is Good!

Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? Only God is
good."

-- Luke 18:19 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is challenging the religious leader to wake up and understand the
truth that stands right in front of him. If he is calling Jesus "good,"
then he must come to understand that Jesus is God and not play
religious games, but come to truly believe. Jesus isn't denying that he
is God; Jesus is affirming that he is God and that man truly needs to
acknowledge that he is. Eternal questions are not simply religious
speculation, but the core questions of the human soul. Only God can
answer those questions. So if he is going to ask Jesus this question,
he needs to pay attention and place his faith in Jesus' answer. So do
we!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and righteous Father, open my heart and my mind so I can better
understand your incarnation in Jesus of Nazareth. Thank you for showing
your love for us in such clearly demonstrable ways by entering our
world in a physical way to bring us home to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Isaiah 29:15

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 24, 2007

VERSE:
Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the
LORD, who do their work in darkness and think, "Who sees us? Who
will know?"
-- Isaiah 29:15

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+29:15

THOUGHT:
Aren't we so very silly sometimes! We try to hide what we've
done and what we're planning from the Lord. Of course we're only
fooling ourselves. At first glance, God's knowing our plans and
seeing our actions is threatening. But after a little time to think
it through, isn't it nice that God does see everything, including
our motives and thoughts? This insures justice will be done and our
mess-ups will be evaluated in terms of our intentions, not just our
failures! On top of that, it also means that those who plot to do
us harm will have to answer to God, and we don't have to worry
about "settling the score" or "getting even."

PRAYER:
Forgive me, Father, when I've tried to hide my plans and
thoughts from you. Create in me a new and clean heart so that I am
unafraid of your knowing anything going on in my heart. By the
power of your Spirit, stir my spirit to desire your character and
long for your presence in my life. I want to live dedicated to your
glory and serving your Kingdom. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
