Today's Verse : Colossians 1:28

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 28, 2008

VERSE:
We proclaim him [Christ], admonishing and teaching everyone with
all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.
-- Colossians 1:28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+1:28

THOUGHT:
The life of Jesus is transformational. The resurrection of Jesus
is transformational. The Gospel of Jesus is transformational.
Jesus' gift of the Spirit is transformational. The proclamation of
Jesus is transformational. The work of Jesus is transformational.
In other words, Jesus is the key, the center, the hub, and the
heart of what we do and why we do it. Paul also reminds us that
Jesus Christ is our goal.

PRAYER:
Father, please forgive me. I confess that in my zeal to help
others, I have sometimes lost sight of Jesus' power to change their
lives and relied on my own meager resources. As I seek to know
Christ more perfectly and as I seek to be more like Christ in my
daily character, please use me to lead others to him and to be like
him. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the name above all
names, I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Trust His Timing, by Tom Norvell

One of the features of my new mobile phone is a clock that allows me to
see the time in multiple time zones, set an alarm, use a stopwatch, and
time an event. When I take a walk, I usually set the timer for about
fifteen minutes short of the length of time I want to walk. That way, I
can decide the route for the last part of the walk. For instance, if I
plan to walk for an hour, I will set the time on my phone for 45
minutes. Invariably, I will check the timer a number of times before
the alarm sounds.

Is this thing working?

Did it sound and I did not hear it?

Has something malfunctioned?

Thus far, the alarm has never failed to work. I have never walked an
extra hour by accident. The device has never failed to perform as it is
designed to do. Yet, I still have a feeling of distrust in the clock.

The same thing happens as I walk through life, trying to live on God's
time-table.

I have read the instructions from His word about trusting Him. I am
listening to God, praying for His will to be done. I believe that He is
working even though I cannot see it. I know that the Father is in
charge. I know that nothing will happen that escapes His view. I know
that He cares for me. I know that the Lord has always dealt, and will
always deal, with me according to His justice and goodness. However,
there are still times when I have difficulty trusting His timing.

I have discovered three realities about trusting His timing.

I have learned that His timing is always right!

First, trusting His timing is sometimes hard. There are times when I
eagerly lay my cares down, but then I decide not to wait for God to
work and pick them back up again. There are other times when my
concerns must be ripped from my hands. My doubts and fears take over:
What if He does not listen? What if He hears the wrong thing? What if
He chooses to act in a way that I do not like? Or worse, what if He
chooses not to act at all? I have swallowed hard when He responded with
"No," and I have laid awake at night wrestling with His answers that
appear to be, "Not now."

Second, trusting His timing is sometimes easy. There are times when
waiting for God to work His plan is easy. Laying my concerns at the
feet of the Lord and leaving them there comes naturally. I have
experienced answered prayer soon after making the request. I receive
his "Yes" with joy and gratitude. I receive His "No" with patience and
trust.

Third, whether easy or difficult: I have learned over life and from His
word, that the Father's timing is always right.

Solomon said it this way:

He [God] has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set
eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has
done from beginning to end (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV).

You may be in a waiting time. Waiting for the answer. Waiting for
direction. Waiting for peace. Waiting for hope. Waiting for healing.
Waiting for victory. Doubt and uncertainty may have set in. You may be
left with questions and fears.

Whatever is the focus of your wait, trust His timing ... it is always
right.

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Morning & Evening -- John 1:16 and Luke 2:19

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, January 27, 2008

MORNING:

"And of his fulness have all we received."
-- John 1:16

These words tell us that there is a fulness in Christ. There is a
fulness of essential Deity, for "in him dwelleth all the fulness of the
Godhead." There is a fulness of perfect manhood, for in him, bodily,
that Godhead was revealed. There is a fulness of atoning efficacy in
his blood, for "the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from
all sin." There is a fulness of justifying righteousness in his life,
for "there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ
Jesus." There is a fulness of divine prevalence in his plea, for "He is
able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by him; seeing he
ever liveth to make intercession for them." There is a fulness of
victory in his death, for through death he destroyed him that had the
power of death, that is the devil. There is a fulness of efficacy in
his resurrection from the dead, for by it "we are begotten again unto a
lively hope." There is a fulness of triumph in his ascension, for "when
he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and received gifts
for men." There is a fulness of blessings of every sort and shape; a
fulness of grace to pardon, of grace to regenerate, of grace to
sanctify, of grace to preserve, and of grace to perfect. There is a
fulness at all times; a fulness of comfort in affliction; a fulness of
guidance in prosperity. A fulness of every divine attribute, of wisdom,
of power, of love; a fulness which it were impossible to survey, much
less to explore. "It pleased the Father that in him should all fulness
dwell." Oh, what a fulness must this be of which all receive! Fulness,
indeed, must there be when the stream is always flowing, and yet the
well springs up as free, as rich, as full as ever. Come, believer, and
get all thy need supplied; ask largely, and thou shalt receive largely,
for this "fulness" is inexhaustible, and is treasured up where all the
needy may reach it, even in Jesus, Immanuel-God with us.

EVENING:

"But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her
heart."
-- Luke 2:19

There was an exercise, on the part of this blessed woman, of three
powers of her being: her memory-she kept all these things; her
affections-she kept them in her heart; her intellect-she pondered them;
so that memory, affection, and understanding, were all exercised about
the things which she had heard. Beloved, remember what you have heard
of your Lord Jesus, and what he has done for you; make your heart the
golden pot of manna to preserve the memorial of the heavenly bread
whereon you have fed in days gone by. Let your memory treasure up
everything about Christ which you have either felt, or known, or
believed, and then let your fond affections hold him fast for evermore.
Love the person of your Lord! Bring forth the alabaster box of your
heart, even though it be broken, and let all the precious ointment of
your affection come streaming on his pierced feet. Let your intellect
be exercised concerning the Lord Jesus. Meditate upon what you read:
stop not at the surface; dive into the depths. Be not as the swallow
which toucheth the brook with her wing, but as the fish which
penetrates the lowest wave. Abide with your Lord: let him not be to you
as a wayfaring man, that tarrieth for a night, but constrain him,
saying, "Abide with us, for the day is far spent." Hold him, and do not
let him go. The word "ponder," means to weigh. Make ready the balances
of judgment. Oh, but where are the scales that can weigh the Lord
Christ? "He taketh up the isles as a very little thing:"-who shall take
him up? "He weigheth the mountains in scales"-in what scales shall we
weigh him? Be it so, if your understanding cannot comprehend, let your
affections apprehend; and if your spirit cannot compass the Lord Jesus
in the grasp of understanding, let it embrace him in the arms of
affection.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Look Again And Think"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 27, 2008

LOOK AGAIN AND THINK

Take no thought for your life.

Matthew 6:25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+6:25&sr=1

A warning which needs to be reiterated is that the cares of this
world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lust of other things
entering in, will choke all that God puts in. We are never free from
the recurring tides of this encroachment. If it does not come on the
line of clothes and food, it will come on the line of money or lack
of money; of friends or lack of friends; or on the line of difficult
circumstances. It is one steady encroachment all the time, and unless
we allow the Spirit of God to raise up the standard against it, these
things will come in like a flood.

"Take no thought for your life." "Be careful about one thing only,"
says our Lord - "your relationship to Me." Common sense shouts loud
and says - "That is absurd, I must consider how I am going to live, I
must consider what I am going to eat and drink." Jesus says you must
not. Beware of allowing the thought that this statement is made by
One Who does not understand our particular circumstances. Jesus
Christ knows our circumstances better than we do, and He says we must
not think about these things so as to make them the one concern of
our life. Whenever there is competition, be sure that you put your
relationship to God first.

"Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." How much evil has
begun to threaten you to-day? What kind of mean little imps have been
looking in and saying - Now what are you going to do next month -
this summer? "Be anxious for nothing," Jesus says. Look again and
think. Keep your mind on the "much more" of your heavenly Father.

YIELDED TO RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 6:19-23

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+6:19-23

Dear Father, Master of my life,

As I once yielded my members to impurity and greater and greater
iniquity, so now I yield them to you for righteousness and
sanctification.

Thank you for setting me free from sin and making me your slave,
your rich slave, because the return I get is sanctification and its
result, eternal life.

Thank you for your free gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus, my
Lord.

In the name of Jesus I thank you for your wonderful grace and all
your gifts. Amen.

Compassionate Power

A man that had leprosy came to Jesus. The man bowed on his
knees and begged Jesus, "You have the power to heal me if you
want." Jesus felt sorry for the man. So Jesus touched the man
and said, "I want to heal you. Be healed!" Immediately the
leprosy disappeared, and he was healed.

-- Mark 1:40-42 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
This translation uses the word "sorry," but the better translation is
probably "compassion." In his heart, in his "gut," Jesus feels the
anguish of this man afflicted with leprosy. So before he speaks healing
into the man's life, he does the unthinkable: he touches the leprous
man. By Jewish law, Jesus makes himself unclean by touching the man.
Yet Jesus wants to show the compassion he feels in a way this man would
understand. Jesus spoke the words of healing only after he has
connected to the man's deepest emotional need and bridged the barrier
that enforced this man's isolation. Mark has two messages for us in
this story. First, he wants us to know that Jesus has come and bridged
the distance between us and God and he will let nothing separate us
from his love. Second, he wants us to do the same with others.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Dear Father in heaven, thank you for your mercy and grace. Thank you
for bridging the distance between your holiness and my weakness by
sending Jesus. Use me to help others find their way to Jesus, in whose
name I pray. Amen.
