Mustard Seed Thoughts: God Has Been Good To Me

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
God Has Been Good To Me
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denari, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more? Luke 7:41-42 NIV

Simon's answer to Jesus was the one who had the bigger debt canceled. That was exactly the answer Jesus was looking for.

I feel like the man who had the bigger debt canceled. My debt was great, and Jesus paid it all! Just the thought of His grace overwhelms me at times!

A friend of mine has a great testimony. It's really pretty horrible if you think about it. He was simply awful, a real troublemaker. (I am being facetious.) When he was growing up, the worst thing he ever remembers doing was one time in the eighth grade, he skipped the church choir practice.

Can you believe it? And God's going to let HIM into Heaven! Wow! There's still hope for me!

Seriously, I wish that was my tes timony. I wish I could hide the painful past sometimes. I wish I could do as God does, and forgive myself, then forget that it ever happened. I wish I could not use my past against me.

But folks, I think you need to know, some of my past just ain't pretty!

I have sinned, and continue to. Sometimes I get caught in the trap of Satan, and I find myself in a mess of trouble.

But, let me tell you when I consider how much God did for me, how far He had to come to rescue me, when I recognize how great His grace is in my life, then I can't help but assign Him all my love!

God has been so good to me, what else can I give Him but my all?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Promoted to Heaven, by Bill Brant

Promotion Sunday is an annual tradition in most of our congregations,
usually taking place in the fall but occasionally at another time of
the year. Somewhere around middle school you don't get promoted
anymore, you just go to your age appropriate Sunday morning Bible
class.

At the Southern Hills church of Christ I have the honor to teach the
"Primetimers" class, those 65 and older. There is an often repeated
joke that "when you get promoted out of Brant's class, you go to
heaven." I laughed because it's funny and lately for a number of our
class members it's become true.

With the recent passing of a dear sweet member of our class, I began to
think what her "promotion to heaven" was like. I envisioned her being
met by her husband of 62 years and an embrace that had waited four
years. Then hand in hand they began to walk down those transparent
streets of gold as he introduced her to friends, for by now he knew
everyone. He showed her all of the glories of the City Four Square,
because by now he knew where everything was.

And then he took her to the throne room where the awe in awesome was
impossible to describe what she saw, felt and heard. There in the
center was the great God Almighty and Jesus, her Savior, at His right.
As she was drawn closer the promise of Revelation 22:4 was hers, for
she saw His face. In a whisper that reverberated throughout heaven, He
said, "My child, welcome home."

And then...

Someday we all hope to get promoted to heaven where we will see His
face and hear the Hosanna of Joy and Welcome.

Being promoted to heaven begins here on earth in our present lives and
at times it seems impossible for us to even hope that we are worthy to
go there. I know some friends who thought the same way and now are
eagerly awaiting promotion day. If you're not eagerly awaiting that
day, let's talk. My email is bbrant@heraldoftruth.org or join our blog

Morning & Evening -- Romans 7:13 and Isaiah 62:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

MORNING:

"Sin ... exceeding sinful."
-- Romans 7:13

Beware of light thoughts of sin. At the time of conversion, the
conscience is so tender, that we are afraid of the slightest sin. Young
converts have a holy timidity, a godly fear lest they should offend
against God. But alas! very soon the fine bloom upon these first ripe
fruits is removed by the rough handling of the surrounding world: the
sensitive plant of young piety turns into a willow in after life, too
pliant, too easily yielding. It is sadly true, that even a Christian
may grow by degrees so callous, that the sin which once startled him
does not alarm him in the least. By degrees men get familiar with sin.
The ear in which the cannon has been booming will not notice slight
sounds. At first a little sin startles us; but soon we say, "Is it not
a little one?" Then there comes another, larger, and then another,
until by degrees we begin to regard sin as but a little ill; and then
follows an unholy presumption: "We have not fallen into open sin. True,
we tripped a little, but we stood upright in the main. We may have
uttered one unholy word, but as for the most of our conversation, it
has been consistent." So we palliate sin; we throw a cloak over it; we
call it by dainty names. Christian, beware how thou thinkest lightly of
sin. Take heed lest thou fall by little and little. Sin, a little
thing? Is it not a poison? Who knows its deadliness? Sin, a little
thing? Do not the little foxes spoil the grapes? Doth not the tiny
coral insect build a rock which wrecks a navy? Do not little strokes
fell lofty oaks? Will not continual droppings wear away stones? Sin, a
little thing? It girded the Redeemer's head with thorns, and pierced
his heart! It made him suffer anguish, bitterness, and woe. Could you
weigh the least sin in the scales of eternity, you would fly from it as
from a serpent, and abhor the least appearance of evil. Look upon all
sin as that which crucified the Saviour, and you will see it to be
"exceeding sinful."

EVENING:

"Thou shalt be called, Sought out."
-- Isaiah 62:12

The surpassing grace of God is seen very clearly in that we were not
only sought, but sought out. Men seek for a thing which is lost upon
the floor of the house, but in such a case there is only seeking, not
seeking out. The loss is more perplexing and the search more
persevering when a thing is sought out. We were mingled with the mire:
we were as when some precious piece of gold falls into the sewer, and
men gather out and carefully inspect a mass of abominable filth, and
continue to stir and rake, and search among the heap until the treasure
is found. Or, to use another figure, we were lost in a labyrinth; we
wandered hither and thither, and when mercy came after us with the
gospel, it did not find us at the first coming, it had to search for us
and seek us out; for we as lost sheep were so desperately lost, and had
wandered into such a strange country, that it did not seem possible
that even the Good Shepherd should track our devious roamings. Glory be
to unconquerable grace, we were sought out! No gloom could hide us, no
filthiness could conceal us, we were found and brought home. Glory be
to infinite love, God the Holy Spirit restored us!

The lives of some of God's people, if they could be written would fill
us with holy astonishment. Strange and marvellous are the ways which
God used in their case to find his own. Blessed be his name, he never
relinquishes the search until the chosen are sought out effectually.
They are not a people sought to-day and cast away to-morrow.
Almightiness and wisdom combined will make no failures, they shall be
called, "Sought out!" That any should be sought out is matchless grace,
but that we should be sought out is grace beyond degree! We can find no
reason for it but God's own sovereign love, and can only lift up our
heart in wonder, and praise the Lord that this night we wear the name
of "Sought out."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Vision"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 11, 2009

VISION

I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision.

Acts 26:19
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+26:19&sr=1

If we lose the vision, we alone are responsible, and the way we lose
the vision is by spiritual leakage. If we do not run our belief about
God into practical issues, it is all up with the vision God has
given. The only way to be obedient to the heavenly vision is to give
our utmost for God's highest, and this can only be done by
continually and resolutely recalling the vision. The test is the
sixty seconds of every minute, and the sixty minutes of every hour,
not our times of prayer and devotional meetings.

"Though it tarry, wait for it." We cannot attain to a vision, we must
live in the inspiration of it until it accomplishes itself. We get so
practical that we forget the vision. At the beginning we saw it but
did not wait for it; we rushed off into practical work, and when the
vision was fulfilled, we did not see it. Waiting for the vision that
tarries is the test of our loyalty to God. It is at the peril of our
soul's welfare that we get caught up in practical work and miss the
fulfilment of the vision.

Watch God's cyclones. The only way God sows His saints is by His
whirlwind. Are you going to prove an empty pod? It will depend on
whether or not you are actually living in the light of what you have
seen. Let God fling you out, and do not go until He does. If you
select your own spot, you will prove an empty pod. If God sows you,
you will bring forth fruit.

It is essential to practise the walk of the feet in the light of the
vision.

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE ATTITUDE OF CHRIST

1 Corinthians 1:10-13
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+1:10-13

Dear Father, to whom I owe full obedience,

Let my attitude be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who made
himself nothing and obeyed you, even in the matter of dying.

May I humbly and obediently exalt Jesus, even as you have exalted
him and given him a name that is above every name, that every knee
should bow and every tongue confess - to your glory, our God and
our Father.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the source of our unity and
salvation, I ask these things. Amen.

Model Prayer

"So when you pray, you should pray like this: 'Our Father in
heaven, we pray that your name will always be kept holy. We
pray that your kingdom will come, and that the things you
want will be done here on earth, the same as in heaven. Give
us the food we need for each day. Forgive the sins we have
done, the same as we have forgiven the people that did wrong
to us. Don't let us be tempted (tested); but save us from the
Evil One (the devil).'"

-- Matthew 6:9-13 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Much has been written about Jesus' model prayer. Rather than something
to be blindly recited, this is a short guide for disciples on how to
pray. The prayer easily divides into two parts: first, we recognize the
inestimable greatness of God, and then we recognize our dependency upon
him. As the previous verses indicate, God is our Father whom we can
approach freely as Father, while at the same time revering his
holiness. The first three petitions ask God to accomplish his ultimate
will in our world and reveal his holy purposes to all people. The
second three acknowledge our need for sustenance, forgiveness, and
strength to face the rigors of daily spiritual and physical life.
Bottom line: prayer doesn't need to be eloquent, but reverent of God,
penitent before God, and dependent upon God while approaching him with
confidence as his children.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and tender Father, I pray that you exert your power in our world
and work your will in irrefutable and glorious ways. I trust you to
fill my daily needs as I depend upon your mercy and grace to forgive me
and empower me to forgive. May my life be used in your service to
accomplish your will. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Psalm 37:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 11, 2009

VERSE:
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of
your heart.

-- Psalm 37:4
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+37:4

THOUGHT:
As my heart delights in God, God's will, and God's purposes, I
find an amazing truth at work: when I desire what God wills, God
enjoys giving me the desires of my heart. An old hymn used the
phrase, "'til I am wholly lost in Thee." When that happens, when
our will is yielded to God and our heart delights to honor him,
then God is longingly waiting for us to request the desires of our
heart so he can bless us!

PRAYER:
Holy LORD, God of our Fathers and great Giver of every perfect
gift, thank you for longing to bless me and pour the riches of your
grace upon me. Please touch my heart to desire your will and then
to boldly ask you to accomplish it to your glory. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
