For you who wonder if you've played too long to change, take
courage from Jacob's legacy. No man is too bad for God. To
transform a riverboat gambler into a man of faith would be no
easy task. But for God, it was all in a night's work.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Look Them in the Eye, by Phil Ware

Special Note:
This is the fifth letter of Phil to his grown children, Zachary and
Megan, sharing with them the values he learned from his father, known
as Daddy Al. The other letters in this series can be found through the
link at the bottom of this page.

Dear Megan and Zachary,

Hope you are doing well and have been blessed by these memories I'm
sharing with you about your Daddy Al. I wished you had gotten the
chance to know him in person. Even the pictures you have seen are
mostly from the last few years of his life when his physical vitality
had been sucked from his failing body. In younger years, he was a
vibrant, passionate man who was quite athletic. At one time, he had
actually won the 100 yard dash and the long jump for Dallas Sunset in
the district track meet and went to college on a track scholarship.

I remember one very distinctive physical trait about your grandfather:
he had piercing blue-gray eyes. They could be soft and inviting; they
could also be hard and withering. His eyes would also sparkle and open
wide when he was excited. He had full eyebrows that were animated when
he talked, so they accentuated the ways his eyes appeared. You never
had to wonder what kind of mood he was in, because his eyes told the
whole story.

Why would I share this with you? That's easy to answer today. Eyes --
especially eye-to-eye contact between people -- were very important to
him. The fifth key life-principle I learned from my dad, your Daddy Al,
was this: Look people in the eye when you talk to them.

At first glance, you're probably wondering, "Where in the world do you
find this principle in the Bible?" But let me share with you what lies
behind this principle.

First, if you tell the truth to folks, you don't have to hide anything.
If you are telling the truth, you are going to look someone in the eye
and share what is on your heart. Part of this principle of looking
people in the eye has to do with your word. Are you honest? Does what
you say have integrity? Are you trying to hedge the truth? Are you
trying to "schmooze" someone and trying to sell them something? For
Daddy Al, your word was your bond. Honesty was essential and a person's
eyes told their true story. Hide your eyes, you're hiding something.
Look away and you are dodging something. Look down, and you are ashamed
or don't want someone to see into your soul. Look someone in the eye
and own up to the truth. As Jesus and his brother, James, put it, "Let
your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be 'no' for anything more than that
is from the evil one." (Matthew 5:37;James 5:12, this is a paraphrase).
It's a lot harder to lie or distort the truth looking someone in the
eye.

I hope you will look them in the eye!

Second, looking someone in the eye is a sign of respect. You are
focusing your attention on that person and what he or she is saying.
You are blocking out all distractions and listening just to them. This
is especially true when you around someone who is older. To not pay
attention to them would be to disrespect them. Listening shows people
we truly honor their words by looking them in the eye and paying
attention to what they are saying (James 1:19). Look people in the eye
and listen respectfully when they talk to you.

Finally, looking someone in the eye is a way to show your compassion
and love. So much is communicated by the way we look at people. People
who don't normally receive the respect of others because of their
perceived unimportance or lower status in society should receive our
respect -- we should look them in the eye and honor them just as we
would someone perceived to be of great stature. Our eyes will reflect
our hearts and people can see that we truly care for them by the way we
look at them. If you read carefully the story of Jesus in the four
gospels, you will notice how important his looking at people and truly
seeing them. This was so very important to them. No one wants to be
invisible and insignificant, so let's view people as Jesus did (Matthew
14:14;Mark 10:21;Luke 7:13). If Jesus took the time to look people in
the eye and value them -- especially the forgotten people on the
margins of society -- then we must follow his example and share his
compassion.

I'm not sure where this week will take you. I do know, however, that
you will meet many people as you follow your daily routine. I hope you
will look them in the eye, treat them with integrity, speak with them
honestly, show them respect, and value them as Jesus does. As you do, I
know your Daddy Al is proud of you.

Love you both so very much,

Dad

Morning & Evening -- Matthew 6:9 and Luke 24:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 29, 2007

MORNING:

"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in
heaven, etc."
-- Matthew 6:9

This prayer begins where all true prayer must commence, with the spirit
of adoption, "Our Father." There is no acceptable prayer until we can
say, "I will arise, and go unto my Father." This child-like spirit soon
perceives the grandeur of the Father "in heaven," and ascends to devout
adoration, "Hallowed be thy name." The child lisping, "Abba, Father,"
grows into the cherub crying, "Holy, Holy, Holy." There is but a step
from rapturous worship to the glowing missionary spirit, which is a
sure outgrowth of filial love and reverent adoration-"Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Next follows the
heartfelt expression of dependence upon God-"Give us this day our daily
bread." Being further illuminated by the Spirit, he discovers that he
is not only dependent, but sinful, hence he entreats for mercy,
"Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors:" and being pardoned,
having the righteousness of Christ imputed, and knowing his acceptance
with God, he humbly supplicates for holy perseverance, "Lead us not
into temptation." The man who is really forgiven, is anxious not to
offend again; the possession of justification leads to an anxious
desire for sanctification. "Forgive us our debts," that is
justification; "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,"
that is sanctification in its negative and positive forms. As the
result of all this, there follows a triumphant ascription of praise,
"Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever,
Amen." We rejoice that our King reigns in providence and shall reign in
grace, from the river even to the ends of the earth, and of his
dominion there shall be no end. Thus from a sense of adoption, up to
fellowship with our reigning Lord, this short model of prayer conducts
the soul. Lord, teach us thus to pray.

EVENING:

"But their eyes were holden that they should not know him."
-- Luke 24:16

The disciples ought to have known Jesus, they had heard his voice so
often, and gazed upon that marred face so frequently, that it is
wonderful they did not discover him. Yet is it not so with you also?
You have not seen Jesus lately. You have been to his table, and you
have not met him there. You are in a dark trouble this evening, and
though he plainly says, "It is I, be not afraid," yet you cannot
discern him. Alas! our eyes are holden. We know his voice; we have
looked into his face; we have leaned our head upon his bosom, and yet,
though Christ is very near us, we are saying "O that I knew where I
might find him!" We should know Jesus, for we have the Scriptures to
reflect his image, and yet how possible it is for us to open that
precious book and have no glimpse of the Wellbeloved! Dear child of
God, are you in that state? Jesus feedeth among the lilies of the word,
and you walk among those lilies, and yet you behold him not. He is
accustomed to walk through the glades of Scripture, and to commune with
his people, as the Father did with Adam in the cool of the day, and yet
you are in the garden of Scripture, but cannot see him, though he is
always there. And why do we not see him? It must be ascribed in our
case, as in the disciples', to unbelief. They evidently did not expect
to see Jesus, and therefore they did not know him. To a great extent in
spiritual things we get what we expect of the Lord. Faith alone can
bring us to see Jesus. Make it your prayer, "Lord, open thou mine eyes,
that I may see my Saviour present with me." It is a blessed thing to
want to see him; but oh! it is better far to gaze upon him. To those
who seek him he is kind; but to those who find him, beyond expression
is he dear!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Substitution"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 29, 2007

SUBSTITUTION

He hath made Him to be sin for us ... that we might be
made the righteousness of God...

2 Corinthians 5:21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+5:21&sr=1

The modern view of the death of Jesus is that He died for our sins
out of sympathy. The New Testament view is that He bore our sin not
by sympathy, but by identification. He was made to be sin. Our sins
are removed because of the death of Jesus, and the explanation of His
death is His obedience to His Father, not His sympathy with us. We
are acceptable with God not because we have obeyed, or because we
have promised to give up things, but because of the death of Christ,
and in no other way. We say that Jesus Christ came to reveal the
Fatherhood of God, the loving-kind ness of God; the New Testament
says He came to bear away the sin of the world. The revelation of His
Father is to those to whom He has been introduced as Saviour. Jesus
Christ never spoke of Himself to the world as one Who revealed the
Father, but as a stumbling block (see John 15:22- 24). John 14:9 was
spoken to His disciples.

That Christ died for me, therefore I go scot free, is never taught in
the New Testament. What is taught in the New Testament is that "He
died for all" (not - He died my death), and that by identification
with His death I can be freed from sin, and have imparted to me His
very righteousness. The substitution taught in the New Testament is
twofold: "He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we
might be made the righteous ness of God in Him." It is not Christ for
me un less I am determined to have Christ formed in me.

GOOD NEIGHBORS

Ephesians 4:25-28

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+4:25-28

Dear Father, worthy of my love and obedience,

May the thought of deceit or falsehood never enter into my
relations with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Let all of us
speak the truth with our neighbors, since we are members of each
other.

Don't let my anger turn into sin. May I never let the sun go down
on my wrath. Don't let grudge-holding and unforgiveness on my part
give the devil any opportunity.

Help me never to covet anything that belongs to someone else, but
rather to work with my mind and my hands to get the things needed
by myself and others.

In the name of Jesus who sacrificed himself for my sake. Amen.

You Can't

Peter said, "Look, we left everything we had and followed
you!" Jesus said, "I tell you the truth. Every person that
has left his home, wife, brothers, parents, or children for
God's kingdom will get much more than he left. That person
will get many times more in this life. And after that person
dies, he will live with God forever."

-- Luke 18:28-30 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
No matter what we may give up for the sake of the Kingdom and to honor
the Lord, it will be nothing compared to what God has promised us.
Bottom line: we cannot out-give God! When our motives are to honor him,
to bless his people, and to empower the work of the Kingdom, then we
can be assured that God will not forget!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you so much for your generous grace. I also want to thank
you in advance for your generous reward and abundant blessings that lie
ahead. I ask, dear LORD, that you help me not let my passion and desire
to honor and to bless you be diluted by life's challenges. In Jesus'
name. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Jesus Style Forgiveness 1

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22 NIV

Have you done something so wrong that you believe even Jesus couldn't forgive you? I've encountered people who actually believe that, but most of us when we think about it would answer "no". Jesus died for the "worst of sinners" according to the Bible, so His payment of death surely can pay for all my sins. Still, our feelings can tell us otherwise sometimes and the guilt of past mistakes often haunts us and keeps us from living happy, productive lives.

This series we will expose the lies of false guilt often placed upon us by our own minds, the world, the devil, and even sometimes the church.

Today I want to look at the advice Jesus gave Peter. Peter was never afraid to ask a question. He wasn't concerned about public opinion or being perceived as a pest. If he had a question; he asked it.

Obviously Jesus was a forgiving, merciful person. That was obvious in the way Jesus lived his life. Peter wanted to know just how forgiving a person was to be; so he asked Jesus.

Jesus' answer probably surprised Peter. Jesus didn't encourage simple forgiveness. He encouraged Peter to give radical forgiveness to people in his life.

Wouldn't we expect Jesus to follow His own advice?

Today's Verse : Psalm 21:13

VERSE:
Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength; we will sing and praise
your might.
-- Psalm 21:13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+21:13

THOUGHT:
What is our role in the grand scheme of things? In Psalm 21, the
Spirit emphasizes our importance as God's "cheerleaders." We ask
God to reveal himself in glory. We urge God to make his strength
known to all people. We marvel in amazement at his great deeds. We
praise God for all the incredible things he has done for us.

PRAYER:
Dear Father in heaven, exalt yourself and your name above all
things. I rededicate myself to daily praise and thanksgiving for
all that you have done, all that you are doing, and all that you
will do in the future. To you, the only true God, the Alpha and
Omega, I offer my heartfelt praise and my songs of joy. In the name
of the Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.

The Real Passover Being the Jubilee

The Real Passover Being the Jubilee
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has
anointed Me to announce the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me
to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to
the blind, to send away in release those who are oppressed,
(19) To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, the year of
jubilee."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We may say that the Passover was the Old Testament jubilee.
When the Passover was established, the oppressed Israelites
were released from bondage in Egypt, released from the tyranny
of Pharaoh. The Israelites had been captives in a condition of
slavery. On the negative side, the Passover set them free from
that bondage. On the positive side, the Passover brought them
into a feast to enjoy the lamb, which is a symbol of Christ as
the embodiment of God. On that day the children of Israel were
brought into the enjoyment of God; they enjoyed the lamb and
the Passover. Later, in the wilderness, they enjoyed manna.
After they entered into the good land, they enjoyed the riches
of the land, which is a type of Christ in His all-
inclusiveness. Now we can see that the Passover set the
Israelites free from bondage and brought them into the
enjoyment of God. However, they eventually lost this enjoyment
and were carried away again into captivity.

In Luke 4 the Man-Savior proclaimed a further stage of the
jubilee--the New Testament jubilee. The New Testament jubilee
also has a symbol or sign, and this symbol is the Lord's table.
The Lord's table is a sign of the jubilee that sets us free
from bondage and brings us into the full enjoyment of the
Triune God. The Lord's table is not only a replacement of the
Old Testament feast of Passover; it is also a continuation of
that feast.

The New Testament feast of the Lord's table will be replaced
and continued by the feast in the coming kingdom. The feast in
the kingdom will be the feast in the third stage. This coming
feast, which will be a replacement and continuation of the
Lord's table, will also be a symbol of the jubilee. At that
time God's chosen and redeemed people will be freed from all
occupations, bondages, and slaveries and will be brought into
the enjoyment of the Triune God in the kingdom age.
