Mustard Seed Thoughts: Indifference

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Indifference
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal is god, follow him." The people said nothing. 1 Kings 18:21 NIV

I believe indifference is one of the greatest sins of our day!

Jesus said He wished we were either hot or cold, but to be lukewarm made Him want to puke! (well, that's what He said) God wants His followers to take a stand! He wants us to be bold in our decision to put Him first in our lives! God does not want fence riders!

Yet, we are full of them, aren't we? Recently I was at a civic meeting in town. There were several influential people around. I had just recently appeared on a local Christian television show. More than once in the meeting people came up to me and mentioned that they had seen me on the program. This didn't surprise me. What did surprise me (really not) was that each one whispered his or her comments about my appearance on TV. The rest of the conversation was at a normal volume, but anything that might mention....you know....religion...was kept at a mute rate.

Also, it is getting more and more difficult it seems to find someone who will pray at a public function. If there is not a pastor close by...what will we do?

In political and business concerns, we seldom hear God mentioned as a reason to do or not to do something. It is easy to use economic numbers or social reasoning, but what are God's thoughts on the issues? They are not included!

Elijah was calling for the people to choose a side. Draw a line in the sand and step to one side or the other. Which will it be? God....or Baal? Pick your leader and follow Him!

Yet the people said.......nothing!

The choice is no different today! Don't be silent! Make a decision! Choose your leader! Follow Him!

And, remember, eternity is affected by your answer!

True religion is a union of God with the soul, a real
participation of the divine nature, the very image of God drawn
upon the soul, or in the apostle's phrase, it is Christ formed
in us.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

A Churchy Word, by Tim Archer

There are some words that I consider to be "churchy" words. They are
words that religious people use that rarely come up in other settings:
sanctification, atonement, grace, evangelism, gospel. Sometimes even
Christians don't have a good grasp on what such words mean.

Repentance is one of those words. When we look at what God wants us to
do as we enter His family, one of the key things is repentance. We have
to repent of our sins. But if we're going to repent, we need to know
what that is.

I used to think that repentance meant feeling bad about what we had
done. While that's certainly a part of it, that's not all there is to
repentance. Literally, "repent" means to turn around or change
direction. It's the idea of walking in one direction, then turning 180
degrees and walking in the opposite direction. Repentance isn't merely
about feeling bad; it's about change, a change of life. It is a change
in our thinking that causes a change in behavior.

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul wrote to a group of new
Christians and told them: "They tell how you turned to God from idols
to serve the living and true God" (1 Thessalonians 1:9). That's
repentance. It's not just about turning away from something; we are
also turning to something else. We leave behind one life to begin a new
one. We quit going toward one goal and move toward a different one.

Repentance is a change of mind that brings about a change of life.

Paul wrote this to the church in Rome: "We were therefore buried with
him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised
from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new
life" (Romans 6:4). Repentance and baptism consistently go together in
the Bible, for that very reason: in baptism, we bury our old selves and
come out of the water with a new life. We are born again, made new. But
what's the point of a new life if it's going to be exactly like the old
life? Why go through a burial if we're going to let our old man keep
living? The idea is that we come to Jesus in faith, leave behind our
old life, burying it in water, and begin again with a fresh start. Only
this time, instead of moving away from God, we live a life that brings
us closer to God.

So even if it seems a bit churchy, repentance is a good word. It helps
us understand what we need to do to come to God. We need to turn away
from our old life and begin a new one, through faith in Jesus. If you
haven't done that, if you haven't buried your old life in baptism to
begin a new life in Christ, let me put you in contact with someone who
can help you with that. Write me at tim@hopeforlife.org or leave a

Morning & Evening -- Song of Solomon 1:2 and Hosea 10:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

MORNING:

"Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth."
-- Song of Solomon 1:2

For several days we have been dwelling upon the Saviour's passion, and
for some little time to come we shall linger there. In beginning a new
month, let us seek the same desires after our Lord as those which
glowed in the heart of the elect spouse. See how she leaps at once to
him; there are no prefatory words; she does not even mention his name;
she is in the heart of her theme at once, for she speaks of him who was
the only him in the world to her. How bold is her love! it was much
condescension which permitted the weeping penitent to anoint his feet
with spikenard-it was rich love which allowed the gentle Mary to sit at
his feet and learn of him-but here, love, strong, fervent love, aspires
to higher tokens of regard, and closer signs of fellowship. Esther
trembled in the presence of Ahasuerus, but the spouse in joyful liberty
of perfect love knows no fear. If we have received the same free
spirit, we also may ask the like. By kisses we suppose to be intended
those varied manifestations of affection by which the believer is made
to enjoy the love of Jesus. The kiss of reconciliation we enjoyed at
our conversion, and it was sweet as honey dropping from the comb. The
kiss of acceptance is still warm on our brow, as we know that he hath
accepted our persons and our works through rich grace. The kiss of
daily, present communion, is that which we pant after to be repeated
day after day, till it is changed into the kiss of reception, which
removes the soul from earth, and the kiss of consummation which fills
it with the joy of heaven. Faith is our walk, but fellowship sensibly
felt is our rest. Faith is the road, but communion with Jesus is the
well from which the pilgrim drinks. O lover of our souls, be not
strange to us; let the lips of thy blessing meet the lips of our
asking; let the lips of thy fulness touch the lips of our need, and
straightway the kiss will be effected.

EVENING:

"It is time to seek the Lord."
-- Hosea 10:12

This month of April is said to derive its name from the Latin verb
aperio, which signifies to open, because all the buds and blossoms are
now opening, and we have arrived at the gates of the flowery year.
Reader, if you are yet unsaved, may your heart, in accord with the
universal awakening of nature, be opened to receive the Lord. Every
blossoming flower warns you that it is time to seek the Lord; be not
out of tune with nature, but let your heart bud and bloom with holy
desires. Do you tell me that the warm blood of youth leaps in your
veins? then, I entreat you, give your vigour to the Lord. It was my
unspeakable happiness to be called in early youth, and I could fain
praise the Lord every day for it. Salvation is priceless, let it come
when it may, but oh! an early salvation has a double value in it. Young
men and maidens, since you may perish ere you reach your prime, "It is
time to seek the Lord." Ye who feel the first signs of decay, quicken
your pace: that hollow cough, that hectic flush, are warnings which you
must not trifle with; with you it is indeed time to seek the Lord. Did
I observe a little grey mingled with your once luxurious tresses? Years
are stealing on apace, and death is drawing nearer by hasty marches,
let each return of spring arouse you to set your house in order. Dear
reader, if you are now advanced in life, let me entreat and implore you
to delay no longer. There is a day of grace for you now-be thankful for
that, but it is a limited season and grows shorter every time that
clock ticks. Here in this silent chamber, on this first night of
another month, I speak to you as best I can by paper and ink, and from
my inmost soul, as God's servant, I lay before you this warning, "It is
time to seek the Lord." Slight not that work, it may be your last call
from destruction, the final syllable from the lip of grace.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Heartiness V. Heartlessness Towards Others"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 1, 2009

HEARTINESS V. HEARTLESSNESS TOWARDS OTHERS

It is Christ ... who also maketh intercession for us.

Romans 8:34,27
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ro+8:34,27&sr=1

Do we need any more argument than this to become intercessors - that
Christ "ever liveth to make intercession;" that the Holy Spirit
"maketh intercession for the saints"? Are we living in such a vital
relationship to our fellow men that we do the work of intercession as
the Spirit-taught children of God? Begin with the circumstances we
are in - our homes, our business, our country, the present crisis as
it touches us and others - are these things crushing us? Are they
badgering us out of the presence of God and leaving us no time for
worship? Then let us call a halt, and get into such living
relationship with God that our relationship to others may be
maintained on the line of intercession whereby God works His marvels.

Beware of outstripping God by your very longing to do His will. We
run ahead of Him in a thousand and one activities, consequently we
get so burdened with persons and with difficulties that we do not
worship God, we do not intercede. If once the burden and the pressure
come upon us and we are not in the worshipping attitude, it will
produce not only hardness toward God but despair in our own souls.
God continually introduces us to people for whom we have no affinity,
and unless we are worshipping God, the most natural thing to do is to
treat them heartlessly, to give them a text like the jab of a spear,
or leave them with a rapped-out counsel of God and go. A heartless
Christian must be a terrible grief to Our Lord.

Are we in the direct line of the intercession of our Lord and of the
Holy Spirit?

Praying with Paul : "Discipline in Truth"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

DISCIPLINE IN TRUTH

1 Corinthians 5:1-8
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+5:1-8

Dear Father, who disciplines us for our own good,

Save your church from the sexual perversions that are taking place
in our society. Let us show your love to sinners and show them how
to receive forgiveness. But may we also say, as Jesus said, "Sin no
more!"

Help us to exercise discipline, even to the removal of unrepentant
members, delivering them over to Satan for the destruction of the
flesh so that their spirits may be saved in the day of the Lord
Jesus. Help us not to cover up sin and then boast about our
tolerance! For a little yeast can ferment a whole lump of dough!
Help us remove the leaven of sin, so that our churches may be like
pure unleavened bread.

Since Christ, our passover lamb, has been sacrificed, let us
celebrate the festival, not with the leaven of malice and evil, but
with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

In the name of Jesus I ask for wisdom in matters of discipline and
for the loving spirit of the Savior himself. Amen.

WJD! -- Back to Earth! -- Matthew 8:1-2

Back to Earth!

Jesus came down from the hill. Many, many people followed
him. Then a man sick with leprosy came to Jesus. The man
bowed down before Jesus and said, "Lord, you have the power
to heal me if you want."

-- Matthew 8:1-2 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Sooner or later, after our moment in the sun, we all have to come down
from the mountain. Jesus has taught his disciples wondrously and
authoritatively. But no sooner does he come down from the mountain than
he is hit with problems. But rather than resenting the problems, he
seizes those problems and displays the compassion and power of God
himself. The word that was authoritative with the Sermon on the Mount,
now becomes the authoritative in the everyday horrors of broken people.
When people come to honestly worship him, they leave feeling incredibly
pumped up, because he not only takes care of the physical ailments but
their deeper Spiritual ones as well.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for Jesus' examples of reaching out to those in need
around him. Thank you even more that his word is not just powerful in
the message, but also in the practical everyday life struggles of
common people. His promise gives me assurance that he will not forget
my prayer to grow and mature. In the name of the compassionate
carpenter of Nazareth I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 1:27

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 1, 2009

VERSE:
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
-- 1 Corinthians 1:27
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+1:27

THOUGHT:
The Cross is such an offensive symbol when viewed in its most
basic and raw form. For God to become human flesh and live among us
is unbelievable enough. For God to be subject to the vagaries and
rigors of mortality and human needs is unthinkable. For God to
endure the indignities and inhumanities of the Cross is
preposterous. But, that is the Gospel. What appears to be foolish,
weak, and offensive has the power to re-make us and inspire us to
unparalleled faith. When we come to the Cross and Resurrection of
Jesus, we come to the impossible which was accomplished by God's
grace for us and in us. Only God would bring us salvation in such a
way.

PRAYER:
Holy and gracious Father, I know that the Cross may be silly to
some people. I know that many people who wear the Cross as a symbol
don't honor it. But Father, I confess that Jesus' willingness to go
to the Cross for me is powerfully convicting and amazingly
reassuring. Thank you for this gift of love and sacrifice of grace.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
