The Son of Man and the Son of God

The Son of Man and the Son of God
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 22:66 And when it became day, the assembly of the elders of
the people, both chief priests and scribes, were gathered
together, and they led Him away to their Sanhedrin, saying, (67)
If You are the Christ, tell us. But He said to them, If I tell
you, you shall by no means believe; (69) But from now on the Son
of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.
(70) And they all said, Are You then the Son of God? And He said
to them, You say rightly that I am. (71) And they said, What
further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it
ourselves from His mouth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Sanhedrin was a council composed of the chief priests, the
elders, the lawyers, and the scribes. It was the highest court
of the Jews. When the Man-Savior was asked if He was the Christ…
The Lord's answer indicates that He not only was the Son of Man
on earth before His crucifixion, but also indicates that He will
be the Son of Man in the heavens on the right hand of God after
His resurrection and also at His coming back on the clouds [Luke
21:27] . His answer also indicates that He is God's Christ, His
anointed. Otherwise, He could not be seated at the right hand of
the power of God.

Luke 22:70 says, "And they all said, Are you then the Son of
God? And He said to them, You say that I am." The question the
Man-Savior was asked here is the same question the Devil used in
tempting Him (4:3, 9). The Greek words rendered, "You say that I
am," may also be translated, "You say it, because I am." When
the ones judging the Lord heard His answer, they said, "What
further need do we have of testimony, for we have heard it
ourselves from his mouth?" (v. 71). They were excited and,
thinking that He was blaspheming God in saying that He was the
Son of God, they condemned Him.

Today's Verse : Acts 15:35

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 5, 2007

VERSE:
Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many
others taught and preached the word of the Lord.
-- Acts 15:35

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Acts+15:35

THOUGHT:
Antioch was a great church in the first century. This church was
blessed with both Jewish and Gentile disciples of Jesus who were
very talented. These disciples were the first followers of Jesus
called Christians. Many of these new Christians taught and
evangelized others in their community. These "many others" remind
us that the power of the early Church was not limited to its
well-known leaders, but also involved the widespread dedication of
its members to minister and to use the gifts that God had given
them to serve others.

PRAYER:
Almighty and powerful God, please raise up an army of committed
people who will serve, pray, evangelize, and teach so that others
may know the grace you have given us in your Son Jesus. Renew the
power of everyday Christians in our day just as it was in the early
Church! I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, my Savior and Lord.
Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Praise the Lord Anyway, by Mike Barres

Have you ever heard the saying, "Praise the Lord, anyway?" There are
many disturbing surprises in life that make that saying really
important. We recently had a well drilled. They had to go down 900
feet. The expense was much higher than we expected and the water volume
was much lower than we had hoped for. We did our best to "Praise the
Lord anyway."

My Mom came to see us from out of state. She is 84. She realized after
the first day that she forgot her pain medication. She has a really bad
back and usually has a lot of pain to deal with. We tried to get her
medicine, but after many attempts, since we were in a different state,
we realized we couldn't. She did her best to "Praise the Lord anyway."

The last two nights Mom was staying with us, she didn't sleep much. On
the way to the airport, she was in considerable pain, and was lying
down in our back seat. If you listened closely, you could hear her
singing. "Ah Lord God Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy
great power. Ah Lord God Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by
Thy outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for Thee, nothing is too
difficult for Thee. Great and mighty God, great in counsel and mighty
in deed, mighty in deed. Nothing, nothing absolutely nothing, nothing
is too difficult for Thee." She was doing her best to "Praise the Lord,
anyway."

Life throws us a lot of curve balls!

That night she called at about 10:30 pm. She wanted me to know how much
she enjoyed being with us, and how much she enjoyed the trip. For an 84
year old woman who has severe back pain, uses a walker, and had been
traveling all day, to say that, she was "Praising the Lord, anyway."

I have heard that John and Charles Wesley were traveling by boat across
the Atlantic when a terrible storm came upon them. They were amazed as
a group of Moravian believers gathered together and began to worship.
This group was "Praising the Lord, anyway."

Life throws us a lot of curve balls, but we can "Praise the Lord,
anyway." As the apostle Paul reminds a group of young Christians in
Thessalonica, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give
thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1
Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Morning & Evening -- 2 Corinthians 12:9 and Psalms 36:9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, November 4, 2007

MORNING:

"For my strength is made perfect in weakness."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9

A primary qualification for serving God with any amount of success, and
for doing God's work well and triumphantly, is a sense of our own
weakness. When God's warrior marches forth to battle, strong in his own
might, when he boasts, "I know that I shall conquer, my own right arm
and my conquering sword shall get unto me the victory," defeat is not
far distant. God will not go forth with that man who marches in his own
strength. He who reckoneth on victory thus has reckoned wrongly, for
"it is not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of
hosts." They who go forth to fight, boasting of their prowess, shall
return with their gay banners trailed in the dust, and their armour
stained with disgrace. Those who serve God must serve him in his own
way, and in his strength, or he will never accept their service. That
which man doth, unaided by divine strength, God can never own. The mere
fruits of the earth he casteth away; he will only reap that corn, the
seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by grace, and ripened by
the sun of divine love. God will empty out all that thou hast before he
will put his own into thee; he will first clean out thy granaries
before he will fill them with the finest of the wheat. The river of God
is full of water; but not one drop of it flows from earthly springs.
God will have no strength used in his battles but the strength which he
himself imparts. Are you mourning over your own weakness? Take courage,
for there must be a consciousness of weakness before the Lord will give
thee victory. Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being
filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting
up.

"When I am weak then am I strong,
Grace is my shield and Christ my song."

EVENING:

"In thy light shall we see light."
-- Psalms 36:9

No lips can tell the love of Christ to the heart till Jesus himself
shall speak within. Descriptions all fall flat and tame unless the Holy
Ghost fills them with life and power; till our Immanuel reveals himself
within, the soul sees him not. If you would see the sun, would you
gather together the common means of illumination, and seek in that way
to behold the orb of day? No, the wise man knoweth that the sun must
reveal itself, and only by its own blaze can that mighty lamp be seen.
It is so with Christ. "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona:" said he to
Peter, "for flesh and blood hath not revealed this unto thee." Purify
flesh and blood by any educational process you may select, elevate
mental faculties to the highest degree of intellectual power, yet none
of these can reveal Christ. The Spirit of God must come with power, and
overshadow the man with his wings, and then in that mystic holy of
holies the Lord Jesus must display himself to the sanctified eye, as he
doth not unto the purblind sons of men. Christ must be his own mirror.
The great mass of this blear-eyed world can see nothing of the
ineffable glories of Immanuel. He stands before them without form or
comeliness, a root out of a dry ground, rejected by the vain and
despised by the proud. Only where the Spirit has touched the eye with
eye-salve, quickened the heart with divine life, and educated the soul
to a heavenly taste, only there is he understood. "To you that believe
he is precious"; to you he is the chief corner-stone, the Rock of your
salvation, your all in all; but to others he is "a stone of stumbling
and a rock of offence." Happy are those to whom our Lord manifests
himself, for his promise to such is that he will make his abode with
them. O Jesus, our Lord, our heart is open, come in, and go out no more
for ever. Show thyself to us now! Favour us with a glimpse of thine
all-conquering charms.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Authority Of Reality"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 4, 2007

THE AUTHORITY OF REALITY

Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.

James 4:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=jas+4:8&sr=1

It is essential to give people a chance of acting on the truth of
God. The responsibility must be left with the individual, you cannot
act for him, it must be his own deliberate act, but the evangelical
message ought always to lead a man to act. The paralysis of refusing
to act leaves a man exactly where he was before; when once he acts,
he is never the same. It is the foolishness of it that stands in the
way of hundreds who have been convicted by the Spirit of God.
Immediately I precipitate myself over into an act, that second I
live; all the rest is existence. The moments when I truly live are
the moments when I act with my whole will.

Never allow a truth of God that is brought home to your soul to pass
without acting on it, not necessarily physically, but in will. Record
it, with ink or with blood. The feeblest saint who transacts business
with Jesus Christ is emancipated the second he acts; all the almighty
power of God is on his behalf. We come up to the truth of God, we
confess we are wrong, but go back again; then we come up to it again,
and go back; until we learn that we have no business to go back. We
have to go clean over on some word of our redeeming Lord and transact
business with Him. His word "come" means "transact." "Come unto Me."
The last thing we do is to come; but everyone who does come knows
that that second the supernatural rush of the life of God invades him
instantly. The dominating power of the world, the flesh and the devil
is paralysed, not by your act, but because your act has linked you on
to God and His redemptive power.

Praying with Paul : "Walking in the Light"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

WALKING IN THE LIGHT

Ephesians 5:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+5:6

Dear Father,

Help me not to be deceived by empty but high-sounding words that
cloak the intent of wickedness.

I know that it is because of these flauntings that your wrath
comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Help me not to walk with such people, to think like them, or to
behave like them.

Let me walk in the light, with the children of light, for the
fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true.

May I learn to do only those things which are pleasing to you.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- The Joy of Sinners in Jesus -- Luke 19:6-7

The Joy of Sinners in Jesus

Then Zacchaeus came down quickly. He was happy to have Jesus
in his house. All the people saw this. They began to
complain, "Look at the kind of man Jesus stays with.
Zacchaeus is a sinner!"

-- Luke 19:6-7 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
I'm not sure how those of us who are religious today would react to the
actions of Jesus with sinners if he were among us today. I do know,
however, that many who regard themselves as sinners are still excited
to know they are actually welcomed by Jesus into his grace. Those of us
who have been in Christ a long time need to be re-awakened to the
hunger that many people have for the Lord. Let's help them find him by
looking for those seeking to find him.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, open my eyes to see those around me who are seeking after your
Son. Please give me the wisdom to know when to speak, what to say, and
how to act so that I can be helpful in their search to come to know
Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Deuteronomy 8:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 4, 2007

VERSE:
But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the
ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he
swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
-- Deuteronomy 8:18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Deuteronomy+8:18

THOUGHT:
As we enter the month often associated with giving thanks, this
reminder from Moses is an important one! We so easily forget to
give thanks when things are going well. It's easy for us to whine
and ask God to help us when we are in trouble, but we often feel
like we "deserve" the good things that happen to us. God reminds us
that what we have is simply a confirmation of his grace and his
faithfulness to do what he has said. We need to remind ourselves,
and each other, that the blessings we have come from his hand and
not because we deserved them more than someone else.

PRAYER:
Generous Father, forgive me for my forgetfulness. Deep down I
know I don't deserve all the good things you have poured into my
life, yet I sometimes find myself thinking that I've earned them.
Use your Spirit to forge in me a heart like Jesus, who did deserve
everything good and yet gave it all up to come to earth and give me
the greatest gift imaginable -- the gift of your salvation! Thank
you so much for this gift of grace and the many other undeserved
gifts that you have lavished on me. In Jesus' name I thank you.
Amen.
