=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

And It Was Night?, by Phil Ware

It was a week of ...

* Jubilation -- Jesus is coming to the feast!

* Amazement -- Lazarus is alive again. Some had seen him raised and
the word spread like wildfire.

* Anticipation -- Many were expecting the Kingdom of God to dawn in
power and Rome to be overthrown.

* Popularity -- Crowds came from everywhere as hope spilled into the
streets like a river out of its banks, pulling people in its wake.

* Praise -- Hosanna's sound in the streets, coats line way and palm
branches wave and fall.

For the apostles, all they had given up, all they had sacrificed, all
they had seen of the miraculous, was all suddenly coming true. It was
glorious! At least it was glorious until that last night and that Last
Supper and that foot washing. Then Judas got up and left the table
after having shared bread with the Savior. Then suddenly, it all
changed.

"It was night" (John 13:30).

The mood changed and the world became very different. The air became
heavy and everywhere they looked, the environment of hell sunk into
every nook and cranny of their world. Instead of joy and shouts of
"Hosanna!" their world was filled with the things of darkness.

* Speculation -- "If we let him go on like this, everyone will
believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both
our temple and our nation" (John 11:48).

* Jealousy -- So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is
getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!" (John
12:19).

* Treachery -- Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread
were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of
the law were looking for some sly way to arrest Jesus and kill him
(Mark 14:1).

* Betrayal -- Then one of the Twelve -- the one called Judas Iscariot
-- went to the chief priests and asked, "What are you willing to
give me if I deliver him over to you?" So they counted out for him
thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an
opportunity to hand him over (Matthew 26:14-16).

* Entrapment -- They were delighted to hear this and promised to give
Judas money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over (Mark
14:11).

* Desertion -- Then everyone deserted him and fled (Mark 14:50).

* Cursing -- Then Peter began to call down curses, and he swore to
them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed (Matthew
26:74).

* Blasphemy -- The crowd shouted, "Take him away! Take him away!
Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have
no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered (John 19:15).

* Mockery -- The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered
at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is
God's Messiah, the Chosen One." (Mark 15:31)

* Terror -- At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in
the afternoon (Mark 15:33). At that moment the curtain of the
temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the
rocks split (Matthew 27:51).

* Hellish Delight -- "But this is your hour -- when darkness reigns"
(Luke 22:53).

A path into the heart of darkness!

"It was night."

And we know this night's darkness! It has engulfed us at times. And in
these times, life feels as if ... darkness rules and despair grips us
by the throat ... chaos reigns and disorientation plagues our every
decision ... God feels gone and desperation holds us in its clutches.
"It was night!"

This week seems to be so contradictory -- the Triumphal Entry at one
end, and the road to Golgotha on the other! But if we listen, we can
hear the prophets of old tell us that they are actually part of the
same path. This is the road into darkness. The road the Messiah, the
Son of God, must walk. "It was night!"

Jesus entered our darkness. He entered, not just for us, but with us,
to bear the full weight of Satan's power -- the sin, evil, wickedness,
and unfairness of us all fall like blows on his thorn crowned brow.
Jesus stares this evil in the face and shoulders the full weight of our
darkness. And he does it ...

* Honestly -- "I thirst ..." "My God my God ..."

* Tenderly -- "Woman, behold your son, son behold your mother."

* Faithfully -- "Father, into your hands do I commit my spirit."

* Graciously -- "Today you will be with me in paradise." "Father,
forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."

* Completely -- "It is finished."

"It was night!"

But God said it once again: "Let there be light," and there was light (Genesis
1:1). And for us, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness
has not overcome it" (John 1:5).

When Jesus mounted a donkey and headed into Jerusalem, he chose God's
path for him: a path that lead him into the heart of darkness ... and
led him in triumph over that darkness and rescued us.

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public
spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians
2:15). For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and
brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have
redemption, the forgiveness of our sins (Colossians 1:13-14).

Let hosannas ring and joy abound,
For the Lord our God rode a donkey to town!

Morning & Evening -- Galatians 2:10 and Matthew 5:9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 17, 2008

MORNING:

"Remember the poor."
-- Galatians 2:10

Why does God allow so many of his children to be poor? He could make
them all rich if he pleased; he could lay bags of gold at their doors;
he could send them a large annual income; or he could scatter round
their houses abundance of provisions, as once he made the quails lie in
heaps round the camp of Israel, and rained bread out of heaven to feed
them. There is no necessity that they should be poor, except that he
sees it to be best. "The cattle upon a thousand hills are his"-he could
supply them; he could make the richest, the greatest, and the mightiest
bring all their power and riches to the feet of his children, for the
hearts of all men are in his control. But he does not choose to do so;
he allows them to suffer want, he allows them to pine in penury and
obscurity. Why is this? There are many reasons: one is, to give us, who
are favoured with enough, an opportunity of showing our love to Jesus.
We show our love to Christ when we sing of him and when we pray to him;
but if there were no sons of need in the world we should lose the sweet
privilege of evidencing our love, by ministering in alms-giving to his
poorer brethren; he has ordained that thus we should prove that our
love standeth not in word only, but in deed and in truth. If we truly
love Christ, we shall care for those who are loved by him. Those who
are dear to him will be dear to us. Let us then look upon it not as a
duty but as a privilege to relieve the poor of the Lord's
flock-remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, "Inasmuch as ye have
done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it
unto me." Surely this assurance is sweet enough, and this motive strong
enough to lead us to help others with a willing hand and a loving
heart-recollecting that all we do for his people is graciously accepted
by Christ as done to himself.

EVENING:

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the
children of God."
-- Matthew 5:9

This is the seventh of the beatitudes: and seven was the number of
perfection among the Hebrews. It may be that the Saviour placed the
peacemaker the seventh upon the list because he most nearly approaches
the perfect man in Christ Jesus. He who would have perfect blessedness,
so far as it can be enjoyed on earth, must attain to this seventh
benediction, and become a peacemaker. There is a significance also in
the position of the text. The verse which precedes it speaks of the
blessedness of "the pure in heart: for they shall see God." It is well
to understand that we are to be "first pure, then peaceable." Our
peaceableness is never to be a compact with sin, or toleration of evil.
We must set our faces like flints against everything which is contrary
to God and his holiness: purity being in our souls a settled matter, we
can go on to peaceableness. Not less does the verse that follows seem
to have been put there on purpose. However peaceable we may be in this
world, yet we shall be misrepresented and misunderstood: and no marvel,
for even the Prince of Peace, by his very peacefulness, brought fire
upon the earth. He himself, though he loved mankind, and did no ill,
was "despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with
grief." Lest, therefore, the peaceable in heart should be surprised
when they meet with enemies, it is added in the following verse,
"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Thus, the peacemakers are not only
pronounced to be blessed, but they are compassed about with blessings.
Lord, give us grace to climb to this seventh beatitude! Purify our
minds that we may be "first pure, then peaceable," and fortify our
souls, that our peaceableness may not lead us into cowardice and
despair, when for thy sake we are persecuted.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Worker's Ruling Passion"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 17, 2008

THE WORKER'S RULING PASSION

Wherefore we labour that . . we may be accepted of Him.

2 Corinthians 5:9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+5:9&sr=1

"Wherefore we labour...." It is arduous work to keep the master
amibition in front. It means holding one's self to the high ideal
year in and year out, not being ambitious to win souls or to
establish churches or to have revivals, but being ambitious only to
be "accepted of Him." It is not lack of spiritual experience that
leads to failure, but lack of labouring to keep the ideal right. Once
a week at least take stock before God and see whether you are keeping
your life up to the standard He wishes. Paul is like a musician who
does not heed the approval of the audience if he can catch the look
of approval from his Master.

Any ambition which is in the tiniest degree away from this central
one of being "approved unto God" may end in our being castaways.
Learn to discern where the ambition leads, and you will see why it is
so necessary to live facing the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul says - "Lest
my body should make me take another line, I am constantly watching so
that I may bring it into subjection and keep it under." (1 Cor.
9:27.)

I have to learn to relate everything to the master ambition, and to
maintain it without any cessation. My worth to God in public is what
I am in private. Is my master ambition to please Him and be
acceptable to Him, or is it something less, no matter how noble?

SUPERNATURAL WISDOM

1 Corinthians 2:11-16

Dear Father, giver of your Holy Spirit,

All praises to your blessed name, to you, our God! You have
disclosed incredibly wonderful things to us through your Spirit,
for your Spirit searches everything, even the deep things within
you.

No one comprehends your thoughts except your Spirit, just as no
other person truly knows my thoughts as my own spirit does.

But, all thanks to you, we have not received the spirit of the
world but you have given us your very own Spirit, that we might
understand the gifts bestowed on us by you.

In the name of Jesus I give you thanks for the supernatural wisdom
you have bestowed on me by reason of my faith. Amen.

WJD! -- Who Is This Man? -- Mark 4:40-41

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

Who Is This Man?

Jesus said to his followers, "Why are you afraid? You still
have no faith?" The followers were very afraid and asked each
other, "What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the water
obey him!"

-- Mark 4:40-41 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"Who is this man?" Ah! That's the real question we need to be asking.
He is more than a man, but is yet fully human. He is pre-existent and
created all things, yet was hung on a tree that he made and killed by
people whom he created in the wombs of their mothers. He has all power,
yet withholds it to go to the Cross to bear the weight of our sins. Who
is this man? Who do you say that this man is?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and Almighty King, thank you for Jesus. I know that I will never
in this life fully comprehend who he is; yet for me, dear Father, he is
everything. In his name, Jesus of Nazareth the Christ my Lord, I pray.
Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Look Up One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Look Up One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. Genesis 13:14-15 NASU

After Lot, Abrams nephew, left him with the choice land Abram had allowed him to have, God said to Abram, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. . Abram had humbly offered Lot the best of the land. In doing so he trusted God to care for him regardless of his current land situation. Abram (We know him as Abraham) knew that if he was to be a man who trusted God he would not be able to rest on his own strength. He would have to rely on God.

Do you know that fact? If you are a follower of God, have you clued in yet that God is not a co-pilot. He doesnt partner with you. God wants to take over. God wants to lead your life. He wan ts to inhabit your every thought and move. He wants you to completely surrender everything you have to Him.

It almost sounds as if God is controlling. The fact is, however, that He is; if we will let Him be. He doesnt force Himself on us, but if we will submit to His leadership, He will take over. That may sound intimidating, but keep in mind two things before you conclude you arent interested. One, God loves you more than you could ever imagine. Two, Gods ways are better than your ways. If you submit your will to God; you win!

God offers to take over your life. Consider the offer. (If you are like me; you have a few things in your life you are more than ready to surrender.)

Today's Verse : Philippians 3:17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 17, 2008

VERSE:
Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take
note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you.
-- Philippians 3:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+3:17

THOUGHT:
"I would rather see a sermon any day, than hear one." I'm not
distressed because people want to "see a sermon," but because so
many of us don't "practice what we preach." As leaders -- whether
as friends, parents, or in positions of authority -- our primary
tool of influence is our life of character (or lack of it). Do you
practice what you "preach"? All of us who seek to influence others
redemptively, MUST! Why? Because most folks need to both hear and
see the message before it becomes a part of them.

PRAYER:
Lord God Almighty, please forgive me, equip me, and make me fit
for your service. Please help me, dear Father, as I try to live a
life worth imitating and to lead others to Jesus. I know I can't do
either of those without your power and grace transforming my life.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
