=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Shout for Joy!, by Rubel Shelly

"Like a victorious locker room," says Philip Yancey, "church is a place
to exult, to give thanks, to celebrate the good news that all is
forgiven, that God is love, that victory is certain."

Have you ever noticed how the celebration goes after a World Series,
Super Bowl, or Junior Soccer Match? The players who made errors, missed
their assignments, and dropped passes are just as excited and happy as
the ones who hit home runs or kicked winning goals. If you're on
Christ's team, you get to shout for joy over what he has done and to
march in the victory parade.

But somebody says she doesn't feel like celebrating. Another pipes up
to say he is nothing but a loser. "My health is rotten!" protests
someone. "I'm on the verge of losing my job, and I don't know how we
can keep from losing our house," cries another. "My divorce will be
final next week," says a trembling voice, "and I never meant to be
alone at this point in my life."

Listen up! You're not a "loser." And despite the distress, sleepless
nights, or uncertain markets, you still have reason to cheer -- if you
know Jesus Christ.

Think about sports memorabilia for a moment. A few days ago, I walked
through a collection of bats, balls, jerseys, and other sports items
that were too expensive for me even to handle -- much less consider
buying. A baseball that once cost only a few dollars is worth several
thousand because Babe Ruth held it in his hands and wrote his name on
it. A football that might sell for $20 is worth hundreds because Troy
Aikman has held and signed it.

Do you get the point?

Most baseball cards are not worth the paper they're printed on.
However, a signed Ted Williams card my son has in his collection is
worth hundreds of dollars because the legendary player once held it in
his hands and signed his name on it.

Are you following me? Do you get the point?

You're not just another sales rep, truck driver, or programmer. Even if
you don't make headlines or tons of money, you're valuable. In spite of
the fact that you're embarrassed about something in the past or scared
of something in your future, you matter. So you can stop selling
yourself short. If you have been held in Christ's hands and have the
signature mark of the Spirit of God your heart, you are saved. You have
a reason for living. And you have a future that is secure.

You're no loser, my friend. You are the child of the King!

Morning & Evening -- Acts 2:4 and Song of Solomon 2:16,

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 19, 2008

MORNING:

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost."
-- Acts 2:4

Rich were the blessings of this day if all of us were filled with the
Holy Ghost. The consequences of this sacred filling of the soul it
would be impossible to overestimate. Life, comfort, light, purity,
power, peace; and many other precious blessings are inseparable from
the Spirit's benign presence. As sacred oil, he anoints the head of the
believer, sets him apart to the priesthood of saints, and gives him
grace to execute his office aright. As the only truly purifying water
he cleanses us from the power of sin and sanctifies us unto holiness,
working in us to will and to do of the Lord's good pleasure. As the
light, he manifested to us at first our lost estate, and now he reveals
the Lord Jesus to us and in us, and guides us in the way of
righteousness. Enlightened by his pure celestial ray, we are no more
darkness but light in the Lord. As fire, he both purges us from dross,
and sets our consecrated nature on a blaze. He is the sacrificial flame
by which we are enabled to offer our whole souls as a living sacrifice
unto God. As heavenly dew, he removes our barrenness and fertilizes our
lives. O that he would drop from above upon us at this early hour! Such
morning dew would be a sweet commencement for the day. As the dove,
with wings of peaceful love he broods over his Church and over the
souls of believers, and as a Comforter he dispels the cares and doubts
which mar the peace of his beloved. He descends upon the chosen as upon
the Lord in Jordan, and bears witness to their sonship by working in
them a filial spirit by which they cry Abba, Father. As the wind, he
brings the breath of life to men; blowing where he listeth he performs
the quickening operations by which the spiritual creation is animated
and sustained. Would to God, that we might feel his presence this day
and every day.

EVENING:

"My Beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the
lilies. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn,
my Beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the
mountains of Bether."
-- Song of Solomon 2:16,

Surely if there be a happy verse in the Bible it is this-"My Beloved is
mine, and I am his." So peaceful, so full of assurance, so overrunning
with happiness and contentment is it, that it might well have been
written by the same hand which penned the twenty-third Psalm. Yet
though the prospect is exceeding fair and lovely-earth cannot show its
superior-it is not entirely a sunlit landscape. There is a cloud in the
sky which casts a shadow over the scene. Listen, "Until the day break,
and the shadows flee away."

There is a word, too, about the "mountains of Bether," or, "the
mountains of division," and to our love, anything like division is
bitterness. Beloved, this may be your present state of mind; you do not
doubt your salvation; you know that Christ is yours, but you are not
feasting with him. You understand your vital interest in him, so that
you have no shadow of a doubt of your being his, and of his being
yours, but still his left hand is not under your head, nor doth his
right hand embrace you. A shade of sadness is cast over your heart,
perhaps by affliction, certainly by the temporary absence of your Lord,
so even while exclaiming, "I am his," you are forced to take to your
knees, and to pray, "Until the day break, and the shadows flee away,
turn, my Beloved."

"Where is he?" asks the soul. And the answer comes, "He feedeth among
the lilies." If we would find Christ, we must get into communion with
his people, we must come to the ordinances with his saints. Oh, for an
evening glimpse of him! Oh, to sup with him to-night!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Service Of Passionate Devotion"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 19, 2008

SERVICE OF PASSIONATE DEVOTION

Lovest thou Me? ... Feed My sheep.

John 21:16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+21:16&sr=1

Jesus did not say - Make converts to your way of thinking, but look
after My sheep, see that they get nourished in the knowledge of Me.
We count as service what we do in the way of Christian work; Jesus
Christ calls service what we are to Him, not what we do for Him.
Discipleship is based on devotion to Jesus Christ, not on adherence
to a belief or a creed. "If any man come to Me and hate not..., he
cannot be My disciple." There is no argument and no compulsion, but
simply - If you would be My disciple, you must be devoted to Me. A
man touched by the Spirit of God suddenly says - "Now I see Who Jesus
is," and that is the source of devotion.

To-day we have substituted credal belief for personal belief, and
that is why so many are devoted to causes and so few devoted to Jesus
Christ. People do not want to be devoted to Jesus, but only to the
cause He started. Jesus Christ is a source of deep offence to the
educated mind of to-day that does not want Him in any other way than
as a Comrade. Our Lord's first obedience was to the will of His
Father, not to the needs of men; the saving of men was the natural
outcome of His obedience to the Father. If I am devoted to the cause
of humanity only, I will soon be exhausted and come to the place
where my love will falter; but if I love Jesus Christ personally and
passionately, I can serve humanity though men treat me as a door-mat.
The secret of a disciple's life is devotion to Jesus Christ, and the
characteristic of the life is its unobtrusiveness. It is like a corn
of wheat, which falls into the ground and dies, but presently it will
spring up and alter the whole landscape (John 12:24).

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Bible Plan 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Bible Plan 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. Luke 10:21 NIV

Gods Word is meant to be understood. He is not trying to hide something from you.

One of the most frequent reasons I hear from people for not reading the Bible is that they cant understand it. Sure, there are difficult passages in the Bible, but the basic content is this: Jesus! If you read it looking for Him, it may make it easier to understand.

The Bible, however, is not like any other book. You cant read the Bible like you would the newspaper and expect to get anything out of it. The Bible was written by God. Its not about history, its about God. Its not a book of literature. Its a book of hope, love and relationship with the Creator God. To understand the Bible you do nt need education, you need revelation. You dont need a scholar you need a Savior. You dont need a translator you need the promised Holy Spirit. To understand the Bible you need God to show you what it means.

Let me suggest you try something the next time you read Gods Word. First, read it not for information, but for relationship. Read it as if God wrote it just for you. Second, read it in context. You cant just read one verse and think you have it all figured out. God is a God of order. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. His Word does not contradict itself. Finally, read it consistently. I often say to God, Im going to read this passage until You reveal to me what You want me to know. Sometimes that takes one time reading it; sometimes it takes several.

God is not trying to hide from you. He wants you to know Him through His Word. Try finding God within the pages of Scripture today.

Now that you've read Today's Mustard Seed Thought, have a little fun and go to the Web and try the Word Search Game. It's always based the current Mustard Seed Thought.

Praying with Paul : "Relying on God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

RELYING ON GOD

2 Corinthians 11:29-31

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+11:29-31

Dear Father, almighty God,

"Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not
indignant? If I must boast, I will boast of the things which show
my weakness."

My God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, blessed one, ever-living,
bear witness to the truth that you are teaching me. Thank you for
showing me that my finiteness, my weakness, is part of your will.
You have graciously set limits around me, so that I must depend on
you. Isn't dependence on an all-powerful God better than having a
limited independence? Your mighty arm can do things for me beyond
what any army could do! To boast of my weakness is to boast of
your power. To experience weakness is to learn about compassion.
Thank you for all this, for in this you surely are teaching me how
to love both my fellow man and you.

In the name of Jesus I pray, earnestly beseeching you to teach me
how to truly depend on you in all things. Amen.

WJD! -- Blocked Understanding -- Mark 9:30-32

Blocked Understanding

Then Jesus and his followers left there and went through
Galilee. Jesus did not want the people to know where they
were. He wanted to teach his followers alone. He said to
them, "The Son of Man* will be handed over to the control of
other men, who will kill him. After three days, he will rise
from death." But the followers did not understand what he
meant, and they were afraid to ask him.

-- Mark 9:30-32 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Despite some of Jesus' own personal teaching, the disciples are having
a very difficult time understanding that he must die and be raised from
the dead. From their understanding and because of their expectations,
the Messiah should be a conquering redeemer. With all the powerful
displays they had seen from Jesus, we can understand that it must have
been hard for them to even imagine anyone having the power of Jesus.
Sometimes our understanding about Jesus' truth is blocked because of
our expectations of him. Let's ask God to remove the blindness from our
own eyes!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, I confess that what I want from Jesus sometimes blinds me to
what I need from him and what he longs to teach me. Please remove my
blindness and gently correct me so that I can know and live your truth.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/

June 19, 2008

VERSE:
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your
own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your
body.
-- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+6:19-20

THOUGHT:
Yesterday, we were reminded of Solomon's great dedication speech
of the Temple in the Old Testament. Incredibly, Paul asserts that
God has taken up his dwelling inside of us through his Spirit, just
as majestically as he took up his dwelling in the Jerusalem Temple.
Our acceptability to God as his holy dwelling came at a great price
to him -- the death of his Son! How can we refuse to honor his holy
presence in us? How can we not live a holy life in response to his
grace?

PRAYER:
Forgive me, dear Father, for the times that I have lost sight of
the wonder of your presence within me. The gift of your Spirit is a
dazzling and humbling grace. Once again, Father, I pledge to
present my body as a living sacrifice to please and honor you as
your Temple. At the same time, I acknowledge that I need the
presence and power of your Holy Spirit to please and honor you as
your holy child. Lead me, cleanse me, purify me, and make me like
Jesus by your Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
