Being Watchful and Beseeching to Escape

Being Watchful and Beseeching to Escape
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 21:34 But take heed to yourselves lest perhaps your hearts
be weighed down with debauchery and drunkenness and the
anxieties of life, and that day come upon you suddenly as a
snare. (35) For it will come in upon all those dwelling on the
face of all the earth. (36) But be watchful at every time,
beseeching that you would prevail to escape all these things
which are about to happen and stand before the Son of Man.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The word "escape" in 21:36 signifies being taken, raptured,
before the great tribulation (Luke 17:34-36), which will be a
severe trial upon the whole inhabited earth (Matt. 24:21). To
be thus raptured is to be kept "out of the hour of trial which
is about to come on the whole inhabited earth, to try them who
dwell on the earth" (Rev. 3:10). Furthermore "all these things"
are the things of the great tribulation. To stand before the
Son of Man corresponds to the standing of those in Revelation
14:1. It indicates that the raptured overcomers will stand
before the Savior on Mount Zion in the heavens before the great
tribulation.

In verse 36 the Man-Savior charges us to be watchful. Instead
of being stupefied or drugged, we need to be vigilant.
Furthermore, at every time we need to beseech. This is not to
pray in a general way; it is to pray in a particular way that
we may prevail to escape the things that are about to take
place. As we have pointed out, to prevail in this way is to
have the strength and ability to escape the great tribulation.
We should not be caught in the trend of today's world. Instead,
we need to escape this trend. The strength and ability to
escape come from being watchful and from beseeching.

Whether or not we shall be raptured before the great
tribulation and be taken away to meet Christ on the throne does
not depend on Him. It depends on our watchfulness and on our
praying in a particular way. Constantly we need to be watchful
and beseeching that we may prevail to escape the great
tribulation. We need to pray that we may have the strength and
ability to escape the things that will take place on earth.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Is It Time Yet?, by Russ Lawson

We have a 6 pound Peekapoo breed dog named Chewy. Chewy is very much a
part of our family. Chewy's body clock works amazingly well. We give
her some canned meat each evening at 5:00. Many times within 10 minutes
till 5:00, she starts staring at us and wagging her tail in
anticipation. Sometimes her anticipation may hit 30 minutes early and
she begins her gentle reminders. Our response is always the same, "It's
not time yet." She sets patiently wagging her tail and staring at us
until it is finally time for her food.

My uncle Dick recently asked me, "Do you believe that God's time is
always right?" Just in case that doesn't make sense to you, some other
ways of putting the question he is asking could be:

Do you believe that everything God does, he does at the right time
to cause the right effect in your life?

Do you believe that every answered prayer is answered at just the
right time?

Do you believe that every prayer that is not answered, is not
answered because it may not be the right time?

That's a tough set of questions, isn't it? Do you REALLY BELIEVE that
God answers you or aids you or allows things to fall into place always
"at just the right time?" I do!

It may be hard at times!

I'm reminded of a couple of Scriptures right now. The first is the
story Jesus told of the woman who kept coming to a corrupt judge asking
for relief from a problem. He refused her for a while, but eventually
gave in and helped her because she was so steadfast in her asking (Luke
5:18). Luke describes the reason Jesus told this story with these
words:

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need
for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up (Luke
5:1 NLT).

Jesus also talks about prayer in another story, this one about
fathers: Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a
stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you,
then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts
to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:9-11 NIV)

A second reason I believe God answers prayer and works at just the
right time for our benefit is because of what Paul wrote to early
Christians living in Rome:

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the
good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose
for them (Romans 8:28 NLT).

I know it may be hard at times, but do you believe that God's time is
always right? Our little dog sits patiently every night -- okay,
sometimes not so patiently -- waiting on what she knows is eventually
coming. She trusts us to provide for her. She loves us because she
knows we love her and will give her what she needs when she needs it.
However, even knowing that we will not forget her, she doesn't stop
reminding us that she wants. Can we do any less? God wants to hear from
us even though he has plans to bless us. When it comes to prayer, let's
never give up!

Morning & Evening -- John 6:67 and Luke 22:46

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

MORNING:

"Will ye also go away?"
-- John 6:67

Many have forsaken Christ, and have walked no more with him; but what
reason have YOU to make a change? Has there been any reason for it in
the past? Has not Jesus proved himself all-sufficient? He appeals to
you this morning-"Have I been a wilderness unto you?" When your soul
has simply trusted Jesus, have you ever been confounded? Have you not
up till now found your Lord to be a compassionate and generous friend
to you, and has not simple faith in him given you all the peace your
spirit could desire? Can you so much as dream of a better friend than
he has been to you? Then change not the old and tried for new and
false. As for the present, can that compel you to leave Christ? When we
are hard beset with this world, or with the severer trials within the
Church, we find it a most blessed thing to pillow our head upon the
bosom of our Saviour. This is the joy we have to-day that we are saved
in him; and if this joy be satisfying, wherefore should we think of
changing? Who barters gold for dross? We will not forswear the sun till
we find a better light, nor leave our Lord until a brighter lover shall
appear; and, since this can never be, we will hold him with a grasp
immortal, and bind his name as a seal upon our arm. As for the future,
can you suggest anything which can arise that shall render it necessary
for you to mutiny, or desert the old flag to serve under another
captain? We think not. If life be long-he changes not. If we are poor,
what better than to have Christ who can make us rich? When we are sick,
what more do we want than Jesus to make our bed in our sickness? When
we die, is it not written that "neither death, nor life, nor things
present, nor things to come, shall be able to separate us from the love
of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!" We say with Peter, "Lord,
to whom shall we go?"

EVENING:

"Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation."
-- Luke 22:46

When is the Christian most liable to sleep? Is it not when his temporal
circumstances are prosperous? Have you not found it so? When you had
daily troubles to take to the throne of grace, were you not more
wakeful than you are now? Easy roads make sleepy travellers. Another
dangerous time is when all goes pleasantly in spiritual matters.
Christian went not to sleep when lions were in the way, or when he was
wading through the river, or when fighting with Apollyon, but when he
had climbed half way up the Hill Difficulty, and came to a delightful
arbour, he sat down, and forthwith fell asleep, to his great sorrow and
loss. The enchanted ground is a place of balmy breezes, laden with
fragrant odours and soft influences, all tending to lull pilgrims to
sleep. Remember Bunyan's description: "Then they came to an arbour,
warm, and promising much refreshing to the weary pilgrims; for it was
finely wrought above head, beautified with greens, and furnished with
benches and settles. It had also in it a soft couch, where the weary
might lean." "The arbour was called the Slothful's Friend, and was made
on purpose to allure, if it might be, some of the pilgrims to take up
their rest there when weary." Depend upon it, it is in easy places that
men shut their eyes and wander into the dreamy land of forgetfulness.
Old Erskine wisely remarked, "I like a roaring devil better than a
sleeping devil." There is no temptation half so dangerous as not being
tempted. The distressed soul does not sleep; it is after we enter into
peaceful confidence and full assurance that we are in danger of
slumbering. The disciples fell asleep after they had seen Jesus
transfigured on the mountain top. Take heed, joyous Christian, good
frames are near neighbours to temptations: be as happy as you will,
only be watchful.

Mustard Seed Thought: God's Promises Twelve

In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have
told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and
prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me
that you also may be where I am. John 14:2-3 NIV

I can think of no greater Scripture to end this series on God's promises,
than that Christ is coming back again! Praise God, it will be worth it
all in the end.

Recently a lady wrote me with her problems. Believe me she has a bunch. Much of
what she is struggling with may be the result of sin in her life and in
the lives of those around her. Her pain was so deep I could almost
literally see the tears flowing through the email. This particular day I
was having a bad day myself. I didn't have a really good reason to be
discouraged that day, I just was. Some days are like that aren't they?
This lady was almost at the point of taking her own life. (I wish I
could tell you this was unusual, but I hear it almost on a weekly basis
from people.) There was a point in my response where I was almost
tempted to write "Go for it! I can't offer you anything else."

I'm sorry if that disappoints you. It was just a fleeing
thought, driven out of my own self-inflicted pity party. I didn't write
it. Instead, I poured my heart into the reply, trying to help her make
sense of her situation, and to lean on God for the answers.

What keeps us all from just "checking out" of this world? What allows us to
go on, even when we are so tired, so overwhelmed, so perplexed with our
trials? I don't know what works for you, but knowing that my Redeemer
will one day return to take me home usually lifts my spirit. When I
think that it will all be over someday, that Victory belongs to God and
His children, and that I will spend eternity in Heaven, where there will
be no more pain, no more suffering and no more heartache, and that my
God is working all things for good, I can face tomorrow! Because He
lives, and because He is coming again, my life has purpose!

As Jesus works on my mansion in Gloryland, God is preparing to send Him to
get His people. "What a day that will be, when my Jesus I will see, when
He takes me by the hand, and leads me to the Promise Land! What a day,
glorious day, that will be!"

Dear God, thank you for your promises, but, even still, come Lord Jesus!

Jesus is coming soon. Are you ready?

My Utmost For His Highest : "Not A Bit Of It!"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 23, 2007

NOT A BIT OF IT!

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old
things are passed away.

2 Corinthians 5:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+5:17&sr=1

Our Lord never nurses our prejudices, He mortifies them, runs clean
athwart them. We imagine that God has a special interest in our
particular prejudices; we are quite sure that God will never deal
with us as He has to deal with other people. "God must deal with
other people in a very stern way, but of course He knows that my
prejudices are all right." We have to learn - "Not a bit of it!"
Instead of God being on the side of our prejudices, He is
deliberately wiping them out. It is part of our moral education to
have our prejudices run straight across by His providence, and to
watch how He does it. God pays no respect to anything we bring to
Him. There is only one thing God wants of us, and that is our
unconditional surrender.

When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begins to work His new
creation in us, and there will come a time when there is not a bit of
the old order left, the old solemnity goes, the old attitude to
things goes, and "all things are of God." How are we going to get the
life that has no lust, no self-interest, no sensitiveness to pokes,
the love that is not provoked, that thinketh no evil, that is always
kind? The only way is by allowing not a bit of the old life to be
left; but only simple perfect trust in God, such trust that we no
longer want God's blessings, but only want Himself. Have we come to
the place where God can withdraw His blessings and it does not affect
our trust in Him? When once we see God at work, we will never bother
our heads about things that happen, because we are actually trusting
in our Father in Heaven Whom the world cannot see.

Praying with Paul : "Worthy of the Calling"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

WORTHY OF THE CALLING

Ephesians 4:1-4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+4:1-4

Dear Father,

You have called me to your kingdom and glory! Help me to live a
life worthy of the calling I have received from you.

Help me live the same life style that King Jesus lived. Let me
live with humility and submission, with patience.

Help me to forbear others out of love for them.

Help me to be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit.

Help me to be bound to my brothers and sisters in peace.

By Jesus' authority and in his name I boldly come to you, asking
all this. Amen.

WJD! -- The Most Important Question -- Luke 18:18

The Most Important Question

A {Jewish} leader asked Jesus, "Good teacher, what must I do
to get the life that continues forever?"

-- Luke 18:18 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Can you think of a more important question than this? I can think of
several that are equally important, but they all ultimately come down
to the same basic issue: am I tied into God in a way that assures me of
life forever with him? So, are you? Are you confident in that life with
Christ forever? God wants us to be? Now whether the religious leader's
motives were perfectly pure or not is really not relevant to our asking
the same question. We can ask it from a pure and undefiled heart,
seeking to honor and glorify him. When we do, we can know where we
stand and with whom we stand.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I know many people want to live forever simply to prolong their
lives and to escape their fear of nothingness or eternal punishment.
While those issues are of importance, dear Father, I long to be with
you -- to know you, to be able to see you face to face, to honor you
and praise you with your angels. You have blessed me so graciously with
your grace. You paid the price for my sins at incredible cost to
yourself. I long, dear Father, to stand before your throne and tell you
through eternity how magnificent and precious you are to me. In Jesus'
name I praise and honor you Almighty God. Amen.

Today's Verse : Malachi 3:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 23, 2007

VERSE:
"Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away
from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will
return to you," says the LORD Almighty.
-- Malachi 3:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Malachi+3:7

THOUGHT:
In times of horror and disaster, people routinely ask, "Where is
God in all of this?" Yet we so often leave God at the periphery of
our lives and look for him only when we are desperate and have no
other options. When things are going well, we seldom say, "Where is
God in all of this? Why, he's right here blessing us! Let's praise
him for his goodness!" God pleads with us to turn to him and seek
after him, in good times and in bad. Not only will we find him; he
will return to us and walk with us.

PRAYER:
O God, please forgive us for seeking our own way. We confess
that we have wandered from your ways. Even while the Bible is so
readily available to us, we often squander the opportunity to hear
you speak from the Word. Even when we have so many opportunities to
praise you and pray to you, you sometimes only hear from us when we
have gotten ourselves into insurmountable problems. Father, I
confess that I have let my relationship with you slip and that I
have not pursued your presence in my life as much as I could.
Please be with me and all your Church as we seek you and your
presence daily in our lives! In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
