Today's Verse : Romans 5:1-2

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 17, 2009

VERSE:
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have
gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And
we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

-- Romans 5:1-2
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+5:1-2

THOUGHT:
Justified, peace, access, grace, hope, and glory -- what a
wonderful collection of gifts! Each of these gifts is ours because
of One -- One reason, One person, and One Lord: Jesus Christ, the
Son of God and our Savior.

PRAYER:
I praise you, Lord Jesus, for all that you've done to bless me
with your salvation. I praise you, dear Lord, for your promise to
return and invite me to share in your glory. Speed that day and
purify me for your service. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Your Move

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Your Move
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies live at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7 NIV

I know you don't have any enemies. You don't have anyone in your life that rubs you the wrong way. There are no difficult people in your life. You have no co-workers who are just plain hard to work with. Do you?

Many of us, like me, have a hard time finding patience for some personalities. I can think of some characters with which I have a hard time just being civil. I know this seems very non-Christian like, but it seems that we are simply different people. Our very natures seem to clash every time we meet, almost like we were enemies.

God said it doesn't have to be like that. He said that if we will please the Lord, then He will MAKE even our enemies live at peace with us. (We please the Lord when we love Him with all our hearts and obey His perfect plan.)

Wow! That's a pretty powerful promise, if you think about it. All those impossible people, all those people who make our skin crawl, all those enemies can actually be made our friends through the mercy of God. God says He will give peace to the relationship.

Do you have someone in your life with whom you could use God's intervention? Is there some way you could use His blessing of peace? Do you need the Lord to settle a dispute or take over a relationship?

God, the Creator, Grantor and Sustainer of Peace is willing to step in and administer His perfect plan to those who please Him.

The next step is up to you!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Community and Homebound, by Phil Ware

I need your help! I need your responses! And I am not alone in needing
your input.

After an article on Monday about the followers of Jesus being
community, I received this touching response from a precious member of
our Heartlight.org family on my blog:

You mention our need for community and I agree. However, I am
homebound. Any suggestions about how I can be part of a community?

Even earlier than this blog comment, a dear sweet sister in Christ sent
me this in an email, even more fully explaining the issues involved in
an articulate way:

I have lived all my life in community: church, family ... Now I am
87 years old, live with my daughter, am slowly becoming unable to
walk, and am post-pancreatic cancer surgery ... Most of the time I
am able to assemble with the church on Sundays for class and
worship service, but I no longer have strength for Wednesday nights
and Life Group and social activities. I am losing ground physically
and am uneasy about the time when I can no longer worship with the
saints. What do I do about communion and social interaction with
Christians? How does one handle this situation? I am praying and
seeking Holy Spirit guidance, but would appreciate your thoughts on
this.

I am not alone in needing your help!

Now I had some quick answers, but I'm not sure any of them are any
good. So instead of me firing off some answers, I'd love to get your
input and ideas. While you can email me about it -- phil@heartlight.org
-- I would prefer you post a response on the blog:
http://www.thephilfiles.com/2009/01/14/community-for-the-homebound

Posting to the blog allows everyone to share in the ideas! However,
whether emailing or posting, this is a huge issue for the Kingdom of
God and one we need to find good ways to address!

Thanks,

Phil

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 41:14 and Daniel 9:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 16, 2009

MORNING:

"I will help thee, saith the Lord."
-- Isaiah 41:14

This morning let us hear the Lord Jesus speak to each one of us: "I
will help thee." "It is but a small thing for me, thy God, to help
thee. Consider what I have done already. What! not help thee? Why, I
bought thee with my blood. What! not help thee? I have died for thee;
and if I have done the greater, will I not do the less? Help thee! It
is the least thing I will ever do for thee; I have done more, and will
do more. Before the world began I chose thee. I made the covenant for
thee. I laid aside my glory and became a man for thee; I gave up my
life for thee; and if I did all this, I will surely help thee now. In
helping thee, I am giving thee what I have bought for thee already. If
thou hadst need of a thousand times as much help, I would give it thee;
thou requirest little compared with what I am ready to give. 'Tis much
for thee to need, but it is nothing for me to bestow. 'Help thee?' Fear
not! If there were an ant at the door of thy granary asking for help,
it would not ruin thee to give him a handful of thy wheat; and thou art
nothing but a tiny insect at the door of my all-sufficiency. 'I will
help thee.'"

O my soul, is not this enough? Dost thou need more strength than the
omnipotence of the United Trinity? Dost thou want more wisdom than
exists in the Father, more love than displays itself in the Son, or
more power than is manifest in the influences of the Spirit? Bring
hither thine empty pitcher! Surely this well will fill it. Haste,
gather up thy wants, and bring them here-thine emptiness, thy woes, thy
needs. Behold, this river of God is full for thy supply; what canst
thou desire beside? Go forth, my soul, in this thy might. The Eternal
God is thine helper!

"Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismay'd!
I, I am thy God, and will still give thee aid."

EVENING:

"The Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself."
-- Daniel 9:26

Blessed be his name, there was no cause of death in him. Neither
original nor actual sin had defiled him, and therefore death had no
claim upon him. No man could have taken his life from him justly, for
he had done no man wrong, and no man could even have lain him by force
unless he had been pleased to yield himself to die. But lo, one sins
and another suffers. Justice was offended by us, but found its
satisfaction in him. Rivers of tears, mountains of offerings, seas of
the blood of bullocks, and hills of frankincense, could not have
availed for the removal of sin; but Jesus was cut off for us, and the
cause of wrath was cut off at once, for sin was put away for ever.
Herein is wisdom, whereby substitution, the sure and speedy way of
atonement, was devised! Herein is condescension, which brought Messiah,
the Prince, to wear a crown of thorns, and die upon the cross! Herein
is love, which led the Redeemer to lay down his life for his enemies!

It is not enough, however, to admire the spectacle of the innocent
bleeding for the guilty, we must make sure of our interest therein. The
special object of the Messiah's death was the salvation of his church;
have we a part and a lot among those for whom he gave his life a
ransom? Did the Lord Jesus stand as our representative? Are we healed
by his stripes? It will be a terrible thing indeed if we should come
short of a portion in his sacrifice; it were better for us that we had
never been born. Solemn as the question is, it is a joyful circumstance
that it is one which may be answered clearly and without mistake. To
all who believe on him the Lord Jesus is a present Saviour, and upon
them all the blood of reconciliation has been sprinkled. Let all who
trust in the merit of Messiah's death be joyful at every remembrance of
him, and let their holy gratitude lead them to the fullest consecration
to his cause.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Voice Of The Nature Of God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 16, 2009

THE VOICE OF THE NATURE OF GOD

I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send?

Isaiah 6:8
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+6:8&sr=1

When we speak of the call of God, we are apt to forget the most
important feature, viz., the nature of the One Who calls. There is
the call of the sea, the call of the mountains, the call of the great
ice barriers, but these calls are only heard by the few. The call is
the expression of the nature from which it comes, and we can only
record the call if the same nature is in us. The call of God is the
expression of God's nature, not of our nature. There are strands of
the call of God providentially at work for us which we recognize and
no one else does. It is the threading of God's voice to us in some
particular matter, and it is no use consulting anyone else about it.
We have to keep that profound relationship between our souls and God.

The call of God is not the echo of my nature; my affinities and
personal temperament are not considered. As long as I consider my
personal temperament and think about what I am fitted for, I shall
never hear the call of God. But when I am brought into relationship
with God, I am in the condition Isaiah was in. Isaiah's soul was so
attuned to God by the tremendous crisis he had gone through that he
recorded the call of God to his amazed soul. The majority of us have
no ear for anything but ourselves, we cannot hear a thing God says.
To be brought into the zone of the call of God is to be profoundly
altered.

Praying with Paul : "The Sign of Righteousness"

THE SIGN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 4:6-12
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+4:6-12

Dear Father,

Thank you that the words your servant David spoke apply to us:
"Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are
covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count
against him" (Psalm 32:1-2).

Thank you that you blessed Abraham before he was circumcised,
(while he was a Gentile!) so he could be the father of all who
believe. Thank you that he is the father not only of those who are
circumcised but of those who follow his example of faith.

Praise to you, God, for giving to Abraham circumcision as a sign
of the righteousness he had through faith before he was
circumcised.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Divine Partnership

After Herod died, an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a
dream. This happened while Joseph was in Egypt. The angel
said, "Get up! Take the baby and his mother and go to Israel.
The people that were trying to kill the baby are now dead."
So Joseph took the baby and the baby's mother and went to
Israel. But Joseph heard that Archelaus was now king in
Judea. Archelaus became king when his father Herod died. So
Joseph was afraid to go there. Joseph was warned in a dream.
So Joseph left there and went to the area of Galilee. Joseph
went to a town called Nazareth and lived there. And so the
thing happened that God said through the prophets. God said
that {the Christ} would be called a Nazarene.

-- Matthew 2:19-23 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
In this passage, we see Joseph caught in a wonderful and mysterious
dance with God. God revealed his protective guidance in dreams, through
angels, and in visions. Joseph, however, still had to discern the
meaning of God's help and had to choose to obey his direction. So often
we want everything spelled out, "just like they did in the Bible." We
forget that Joseph and Mary were living a mystery that was too big to
wrap their minds around; at times it was frightening and at other times
it was just bewildering. The human guidance, advice, and training they
received to prepare them for what lay ahead of them are remarkably
similar to our own -- little or none. This, of course, made them rely
more on God each day for his direction and protection. Interestingly,
after the initial burst of divine revelation, Joseph and Mary appear to
have been faced with the same kind of child raising issues that most of
us face, with one exception: they were raising God's Messiah. They had
to rely on God to lead them through this mystery. So must we!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Ever-present Father, I am comforted to see your protection of your Son
when he was so vulnerable. I am thankful that there is never a place or
time that your presence is not with him. Please inspire my confidence
in your presence in my life, too. I long for you to make yourself known
in my life each day as I seek to live for you. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
