Today's Verse : 1 Samuel 12:22

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 22, 2008

VERSE:
For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his
people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own.
-- 1 Samuel 12:22
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Samuel+12:22

THOUGHT:
The great and holy God will not be unfaithful. In fact, he will
act to show his character and honor his holy name, even when his
people don't deserve his grace. Why God would love and preserve us
and our great Israelite ancestors is nothing short of grace, love,
and faithfulness.

PRAYER:
Holy and Righteous Father, your grace has not only saved me, but
it sustains me even when Satan tries to use my own failures to make
me doubt your love for me. Thank you for triumphing over my
unworthiness and giving me righteousness so that I will be fit your
kingdom and glory. In Jesus' name I praise you. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

A Time of w00t, by Ron Rose

Warm up: Out of the Shallows

One of the things I love about the English language is its ability to
morph, to ad lib, to accept new words. Last year the word
"Merriam-Webster Dictionary" chose as word of the year is a great
example of the new and unusual. At first I thought it was a typo, but
it's not: "w00t."

W00t is: "expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason
at all); similar in use to the word 'yay.'" This word comes from the
world of geekdom, where numbers are often used for letters. Video
gamers use the word. It is an exclamation of joy, often upon the
completion of a task or the besting of an opponent.

Some say it's a great expression of pure enjoyment and unvarnished joy.

So, "W00t to the world, the Lord has come." Thank God, he was willing
to risk.

Have a w00t filled Christmas!

Inspiration: Into the Deep

There were just too many people; the little village was overwhelmed.
Mary and Joseph had to settle for a make do, cave-stable on the edge of
town. She was weary, separated from family, and feeling the pains of
labor. Everything was strange and new to her. Was this the way she was
supposed to feel? Was it supposed to hurt this much? Was it supposed to
take this long?

Alone, but not forgotten, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, a
helpless incarnation of the Creator, himself. So it began.

Jesus spent his first night wrapped in human skin sleeping in a
hay-filled feed trough. While the God of creation was getting used to
human limitations like breathing and crying, Bethlehem slept. The God
who created time placed his future in the unproven and inexperienced
hands of a teenage girl. The plan was risky.

The Savior of the world, the Messiah, the Christ, the Prince of Peace,
the Son of God, was sleeping in an ordinary stable on the edge of a
tiny little village, in a troublesome province of the Roman Empire.
Nobody knew that this birth would change everything, everywhere.

Did it work?

Finally, heaven could not keep quiet. The nameless shepherds heard the
news. They were stunned by the dazzling brightness filling the sky
around them. The news was incredible, "The Messiah has come." They had
to go; they had to see for themselves.

On that night centuries ago, God opened the windows of heaven, and for
a brief moment ordinary shepherds could glimpse the glory of heaven
itself. Have you ever wondered why it was that shepherds were given
this gift? Why not the religious leaders, the Sanhedrin, the
politicians, the prominent people, the powerful people? Perhaps they
were too busy looking down on others, to look up to God? Or, maybe they
couldn't see God's world, because their eyes were too focused on their
world.

Jesus traded the joys of heaven and the power of the Creator to become
the created. He gave up everything for the willing arms of a novice
mother, from an ordinary town, in a forgotten corner of the world. Yes,
the plan was filled with risk.

Did it work?

Game Plan: Living Beyond Yourself

If you miss the w00t, you have discounted the plan. Your task this week
is simple find w00t each day ... Look for the Jesus; he is still here.

Morning & Evening -- 2 Samuel 23:5 and Ezekiel 16:10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, December 21, 2008

MORNING:

"Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant."
-- 2 Samuel 23:5

This covenant is divine in its origin. "HE hath made with me an
everlasting covenant." Oh that great word HE! Stop, my soul. God, the
everlasting Father, has positively made a covenant with thee; yes, that
God who spake the world into existence by a word; he, stooping from his
majesty, takes hold of thy hand and makes a covenant with thee. Is it
not a deed, the stupendous condescension of which might ravish our
hearts for ever if we could really understand it? "HE hath made with me
a covenant." A king has not made a covenant with me-that were somewhat;
but the Prince of the kings of the earth, Shaddai, the Lord
All-sufficient, the Jehovah of ages, the everlasting Elohim, "He hath
made with me an everlasting covenant." But notice, it is particular in
its application. "Yet hath he made with ME an everlasting covenant."
Here lies the sweetness of it to each believer. It is nought for me
that he made peace for the world; I want to know whether he made peace
for me! It is little that he hath made a covenant, I want to know
whether he has made a covenant with me. Blessed is the assurance that
he hath made a covenant with me! If God the Holy Ghost gives me
assurance of this, then his salvation is mine, his heart is mine, he
himself is mine-he is my God.

This covenant is everlasting in its duration. An everlasting covenant
means a covenant which had no beginning, and which shall never, never
end. How sweet amidst all the uncertainties of life, to know that "the
foundation of the Lord standeth sure," and to have God's own promise,
"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of
my lips." Like dying David, I will sing of this, even though my house
be not so with God as my heart desireth.

EVENING:

"I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with
badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I
covered thee with silk."
-- Ezekiel 16:10

See with what matchless generosity the Lord provides for his people's
apparel. They are so arrayed that the divine skill is seen producing an
unrivalled broidered work, in which every attribute takes its part and
every divine beauty is revealed. No art like the art displayed in our
salvation, no cunning workmanship like that beheld in the righteousness
of the saints. Justification has engrossed learned pens in all ages of
the church, and will be the theme of admiration in eternity. God has
indeed "curiously wrought it." With all this elaboration there is
mingled utility and durability, comparable to our being shod with
badgers' skins. The animal here meant is unknown, but its skin covered
the tabernacle, and formed one of the finest and strongest leathers
known. The righteousness which is of God by faith endureth for ever,
and he who is shod with this divine preparation will tread the desert
safely, and may even set his foot upon the lion and the adder. Purity
and dignity of our holy vesture are brought out in the fine linen. When
the Lord sanctifies his people, they are clad as priests in pure white;
not the snow itself excels them; they are in the eyes of men and angels
fair to look upon, and even in the Lord's eyes they are without spot.
Meanwhile the royal apparel is delicate and rich as silk. No expense is
spared, no beauty withheld, no daintiness denied.

What, then? Is there no inference from this? Surely there is gratitude
to be felt and joy to be expressed. Come, my heart, refuse not thy
evening hallelujah! Tune thy pipes! Touch thy chords!

"Strangely, my soul, art thou arrayed
By the Great Sacred Three!
In sweetest harmony of praise
Let all thy powers agree."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Experience Or Revelation"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 21, 2008

EXPERIENCE OR REVELATION

We have received ... the spirit which is of God; that we
might know the things that are freely given to us of
God.

1 Corinthians 2:12
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1co+2:12&sr=1

Reality is Redemption, not my experience of Redemption; but
Redemption has no meaning for me until it speaks the language of my
conscious life. When I am born again, the Spirit of God takes me
right out of myself and my experiences, and identifies me with Jesus
Christ. If I am left with my experiences, my experiences have not
been produced by Redemption. The proof that they are produced by
Redemption is that I am led out of myself all the time, I no longer
pay any attention to my experiences as the ground of Reality, but
only to the Reality which produced the experiences. My experiences
are not worth anything unless they keep me at the Source, Jesus
Christ.

If you try to dam up the Holy Spirit in you to produce subjective
experiences, you will find that He will burst all bounds and take you
back again to the historic Christ. Never nourish an experience which
has not God as its Source and faith in God as its result. If you do,
your experience is anti-Christian, no matter what visions you may
have had. Is Jesus Christ Lord of your experiences, or do you try to
lord it over Him? Is any experience dearer to you than your Lord? He
must be Lord over you, and you must not pay attention to any
experience over which He is not Lord. There comes a time when God
will make you impatient with your own experience - I do not care what
I experience; I am sure of Him.

Be ruthless with yourself if you are given to talking about the
experiences you have had. Faith that is sure of itself is not faith;
faith that is sure of God is the only faith there is.

Praying with Paul : "Extinguishing Evil"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

EXTINGUISHING EVIL

Colossians 3:5-17
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:5-17

Dear Father,

Help me put to death certain things in my life that are earthly -
inward evils ranging from impurity to covetousness.

Most of all, may I be rid of covetousness, wanting the applause
and possessions of this world, which is really idolatry.

May I extinguish all outward evil ranging from anger to slander
and foul talk.

Keep me from everything that is false. Don't let a lie come to my
mind or my lips.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Final Goodbye?

Joseph bought some linen cloth. Joseph took the body {from
the cross} and wrapped the body in the linen. Then Joseph put
the body in a tomb (grave) that was dug in a wall of rock.
Then Joseph closed the tomb by rolling a large stone to cover
the entrance.

-- Mark 15:46 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
I can only imagine what this experience must have meant to Joseph. Was
it filled with regret for not having been more open about his
allegiance to Jesus? Was it filled with deep sorrow for what he felt
was lost? Was it filled with anger at seeing the body of Jesus in its
abused, torn, and punctured condition? Was it a sense of finality that
all had been lost and all hopes dashed with his death? As he placed
Jesus in this fresh grave, did he hear a brief echo of a promised
resurrection that stirred his hopes? As he walked away from the tomb,
the stone set in its place at the entrance, did he give up hope
altogether -- in resentment of his cherished Jewish heritage that had
brought about this moment and in disillusionment with his faith in
Jesus who was now dead? We look at the crucifixion on this side of
Jesus' triumphant resurrection. Even when we celebrate the Lord's
Supper and remember the death of Jesus, we do so on this side of his
triumph and we do so on Sunday, the day of his victory. It is only when
one we love comes to the end of this life that we can begin to
understand the weight of Joseph's pain and grief. But even then, we can
be thankful that Joseph's painful task was done in preparation for the
glorious Sunday when Jesus rose from the dead and changed everything.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Hallelujah, God Almighty. You have taken death and defeated it through
the work of your Son and my Savior Jesus. Thank you. I praise you in
the name of my risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
