=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Clutter, by Larry Davies

"I found your office looking on the internet," a relative said when we
were visiting my wife's home town."

"Oh really," I answered, wondering why she would be so interested?

"We've never had a chance to visit your church so I decided to check it
out online. Your sanctuary is beautiful and the family life center is
interesting but have you seen your office?" she pressed on.

"Actually, I haven't. Why do you ask?" Now, I was really curious. What
was her point?

"I made a copy for you. Maybe you should take a peek." She said with a
mischievous grin.

Preserved in glossy 8 by 11 Technicolor was my office in all it's ...
(gulp) glory? Maybe a better word would be extreme clutter or disaster
area or "this site should be condemned" or maybe a bomb crater? Papers
were strewn all over my desk. You could hardly see my computer for the
mess. A lamp shade was tilted at 45 degree angle. In the background
were pictures, books and old mementos scattered all about.

I was embarrassed, ashamed and yes humiliated. I knew something needed
to be done but it wouldn't be right to eliminate my entire family?
Would it? Okay, get serious Larry, but something needed to be done.

Clutter often involves more than just our office. Chuck Swindoll in his
book, "So, You Want to Be Like Christ?" writes a chapter on
"Simplicity, Uncluttering our Minds." At one point Chuck shares five
steps toward achieving a cluttered mind. As I read each statement, I
was forced to declare myself: Guilty!

1. Say yes every time someone asks you to do something.

2. Don't plan any time for leisure and rejuvenation.

3. Don't be satisfied with your accomplishments -- keep moving.

4. Max out your credit cards beyond what you can repay.

5. Acquire all the latest technology so you can simplify your life.

Yes, I say "Yes!" far too often.

Yes, I plan very little time for leisure and rejuvenation.

Yes, I am seldom satisfied with my accomplishments. I do keep moving.

Yes, I've taken on too much debt this year.

Are you caught in the gales of a cluttered lifestyle?

Yes, I've often acquired the latest technology hoping for a simpler
life only to find myself maintaining yet another gadget.

Where does it all end? I confess! I am also guilty of a cluttered mind
and a cluttered life.

Max Lucado wrote:

We are a nation that believes in having it all. In 1950 American
families owned one car and saved for a second. In 2000 nearly 1 in
5 families owned three cars or more ... Americans shell out more
for garbage bags than 90 of the world's 210 countries spend for
everything. In 1900 the average person living in the US wanted 72
different things and considered 18 of them essential. Today the
average person wants 500 things and considers over 100 of them
essential. (From "Cure for the Common Life.")

Our prosperity however carries a hefty price tag. Most of us feel the
stress of a hectic, cluttered lifestyle.

The apostle Paul wrote:

I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. For I
promised you as a pure bride to one husband, Christ. But I fear
that somehow you will be led away from your pure and simple
devotion to Christ, just as Eve was deceived by the serpent. You
seem to believe whatever anyone tells you ... (2 Corinthians 11:2-3
NASB).

When our lives are cluttered we can more easily be led astray.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox wrote a beautiful poem that begins:

One ship drives east and another drives west
With the selfsame winds that blow:
'Tis the set of the sails and not the gales,
Which tells us the way to go.

Two ships driven by the wind, yet one stays on course. Are you sailing
where you desire or are you caught in the gales of a cluttered
lifestyle? The answer is found in the word: simplify. We must learn to
simplify our lives. The reward is a life less complicated, not more
entangled. You will have more time, not less. And the fruit is the
opportunity to enjoy a long-lasting, satisfying, rewarding, intimate
relationship with almighty God.

Morning & Evening -- Job 40:4 and 2 Corinthians 11:22

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 6, 2008

MORNING:

"Behold, I am vile."
-- Job 40:4

One cheering word, poor lost sinner, for thee! You think you must not
come to God because you are vile. Now, there is not a saint living on
earth but has been made to feel that he is vile. If Job, and Isaiah,
and Paul were all obliged to say "I am vile," oh, poor sinner, wilt
thou be ashamed to join in the same confession? If divine grace does
not eradicate all sin from the believer, how dost thou hope to do it
thyself? and if God loves his people while they are yet vile, dost thou
think thy vileness will prevent his loving thee? Believe on Jesus, thou
outcast of the world's society! Jesus calls thee, and such as thou art.

"Not the righteous, not the righteous;
Sinners, Jesus came to call."

Even now say, "Thou hast died for sinners; I am a sinner, Lord Jesus,
sprinkle thy blood on me;" if thou wilt confess thy sin thou shalt find
pardon. If, now, with all thy heart, thou wilt say, "I am vile, wash
me," thou shalt be washed now. If the Holy Spirit shall enable thee
from thy heart to cry

"Just as I am, without one plea
But that thy blood was shed for me,
And that thou bidd'st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come!"

thou shalt rise from reading this morning's portion with all thy sins
pardoned; and though thou didst wake this morning with every sin that
man hath ever committed on thy head, thou shalt rest to-night accepted
in the Beloved; though once degraded with the rags of sin, thou shalt
be adorned with a robe of righteousness, and appear white as the angels
are. For "now," mark it, "Now is the accepted time." If thou "believest
on him who justifieth the ungodly thou art saved." Oh! may the Holy
Spirit give thee saving faith in him who receives the vilest.

EVENING:

"Are they Israelites? so am I."
-- 2 Corinthians 11:22

We have here A PERSONAL CLAIM, and one that needs proof. The apostle
knew that his claim was indisputable, but there are many persons who
have no right to the title who yet claim to belong to the Israel of
God. If we are with confidence declaring, "So am I also an Israelite,"
let us only say it after having searched our heart as in the presence
of God. But if we can give proof that we are following Jesus, if we can
from the heart say, "I trust him wholly, trust him only, trust him
simply, trust him now, and trust him ever," then the position which the
saints of God hold belongs to us-all their enjoyments are our
possessions; we may be the very least in Israel, "less than the least
of all saints," yet since the mercies of God belong to the saints AS
SAINTS, and not as advanced saints, or well-taught saints, we may put
in our plea, and say, "Are they Israelites? so am I; therefore the
promises are mine, grace is mine, glory will be mine." The claim,
rightfully made, is one which will yield untold comfort. When God's
people are rejoicing that they are his, what a happiness if they can
say, "SO AM I!" When they speak of being pardoned, and justified, and
accepted in the Beloved, how joyful to respond, "Through the grace of
God, SO AM I." But this claim not only has its enjoyments and
privileges, but also its conditions and duties. We must share with
God's people in cloud as well as in sunshine. When we hear them spoken
of with contempt and ridicule for being Christians, we must come boldly
forward and say, "So am I." When we see them working for Christ, giving
their time, their talent, their whole heart to Jesus, we must be able
to say, "So do I." O let us prove our gratitude by our devotion, and
live as those who, having claimed a privilege, are willing to take the
responsibility connected with it.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Work Out What God Works In"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 6, 2008

WORK OUT WHAT GOD WORKS IN

Work out your own salvation.

Philippians 2:12-13

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=php+2:12-13&sr=1

Your will agrees with God, but in your flesh there is a disposition
which renders you powerless to do what you know you ought to do. When
the Lord is presented to the conscience, the first thing conscience
does is to rouse the will, and the will always agrees with God. You
say - "But I do not know whether my will is in agreement with God."
Look to Jesus and you will find that your will and your conscience
are in agreement with Him every time. The thing in you which makes
you say "I shan't" is something less profound than your will; it is
perversity, or obstinacy, and they are never in agreement with God.
The profound thing in man is his will, not sin. Will is the essential
element in God's creation of man: sin is a perverse disposition which
entered into man. In a regenerated man the source of will is
almighty. "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do
of His good pleasure." You have to work out with concentration and
care what God works in; not work your own salvation, but work it out,
while you base resolutely in unshaken faith on the complete and
perfect Redemption of the Lord. As you do this, you do not bring an
opposed will to God's will, God's will is your will, and your natural
choices are along the line of God's will, and the life is as natural
as breathing. God is the source of your will, therefore you are able
to work out His will. Obstinacy is an unintelligent 'wadge' that
refuses to be enlightened; the only thing is for it to be blown up
with dynamite, and the dynamite is obedience to the Holy Spirit.

Do I believe that Almighty God is the source of my will? God not only
expects me to do His will, but He is in me to do it.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Facing Fear 5

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Facing Fear 5
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts

"I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. Genesis 46:3 NIV

Throughout Jacobs life he allowed God to speak truth into his life that kept him from allowing fear to control him. Jacob was obedient to God because he shifted from fear to faith.

All of us will have fear. It began with the fall and, since we still live in a fallen world, we still are subject to fear. We shouldnt stress over the fact that we become afraid when we are facing something that seems beyond our abilities or when the outcome of the situation is unknown. Thats natural.

To counter our nature we must do the spiritual. We must place our faith in somethingreally SOMEONEwho has the power and ability to accomplish what appears to be the impossible. That someone, of course, is the Creator God. When we place our trust in God, He takes our inabilities and turns them into abilitie s. Then, working all things towards an ultimate good, He works through our situations and circumstances to bring about His final plan. Our job in all this is to be obedient; in spite of our fears; by placing our complete faith in Him.

What is that fear that has your stagnant right now? Perhaps you need to move from fear to faith! Turn your fear into a complete and total trust in the person of God. Then watch Him do His miracle work and transform your situation into a glorious tribute to His power and strength.

Let me give you an easy 4 steps to begin this process:

1)Admit your fear; 2)Reclaim your faith; 3)Obey completely. 4)Repeat steps 1 through 4.

Feel free to email where you are in the process to ron.edmondson@gmail.com

HEARTS OF LOVE AND ACTION

2 Corinthians 8:8-9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+8:8-9

Dear Father,

Give us hearts of love, that refuse to say, "Go, be warmed and
filled," but instead give what is needful to those full of need.

Help us prove that our love is genuine, remembering that the Lord
Jesus himself was very rich in heaven with you but for our sakes he
became poor that by his poverty we might become rich.

Thank you, Jesus, for this. Thank you, Father, for giving Jesus to
us to show us the blessedness of giving to others.

In the name of Jesus I humbly ask for your help in giving us a
generous spirit. Amen.

Waiting Before Witnessing

Jesus and the followers were walking back down the mountain.
Jesus commanded the followers, "Don't tell any person about
the things you saw on the mountain. Wait until after the Son
of Man rises from death. Then you can tell people what you
saw." So the followers obeyed Jesus and said nothing about
what they saw. But they discussed what Jesus meant about
rising from death.

-- Mark 9:9-10 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus didn't want his three key followers telling others about what had
happened on the mountain when he spoke with Moses and Elijah. Why?
There are many reasons. First, they did not yet fully understand what
had happened. Second, they didn't understand what lay ahead for Jesus
-- his death and resurrection. Third, no one would believe them, much
less understand that Jesus was superior to Moses and Elijah. Fourth,
those who followed Jesus based on this kind of testimony would have
been looking only for a "special effects" Jesus rather than the servant
Messiah he chose to be. They needed to wait and let God fully reveal
who Jesus is and then they could share with others what they had seen
and heard.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, help me share Jesus properly with others. I want my friends
and loved ones to know of his saving grace, his awesome power, and his
ultimate triumph over sin and death. Help me know how and when to share
these things. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Matthew 6:6

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 6, 2008

VERSE:
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to
your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done
in secret, will reward you.
-- Matthew 6:6

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Matthew+6:6

THOUGHT:
Prayer is an incredible invitation from God to share with him
what is on our hearts. Even when we don't have words to say, he
helps us through his Spirit in those moments. This incredibly
intimate conversation, sustained by the very precious Spirit of God
within us, must never be debased by crass showmanship or pride.
Prayer is not done to prove our piety, but to deepen our
relationship with Almighty God!

PRAYER:
Abba Father, thank you so much for the incredible gift of
prayer. Thank you for listening to both my words and my heart.
Thank you for being near and not far off. Forgive me when I don't
call upon you as often as I should, or when I take your gracious
listening ear for granted. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
