VERSE:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
-- Genesis 1:1

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Genesis+1:1

THOUGHT:
We are creatures of the earth. Yes, we are much more than that,
but occasionally we need to be reminded! We can't truly understand
existence before time, yet before the beginning of time as we know
it, God was. Before there was an ordered universe to provide the
basis of our existence, God was. He had existence before, beyond,
and without our created universe. We can't even truly comprehend
this in its entirety. That's why every new beginning -- whether it
is a day, a week, a year, or a millennium -- should begin with God.
He alone is the ultimate Genesis, our beginning.

PRAYER:
Almighty Creator and God of all of the universe, I praise you
for your incomparable power and your incomprehensible glory. As I
begin this new year, I know that my future rests in your will, your
grace, and your salvation. Please go with me as I journey toward
this future. Please be glorified in the way I live my life today,
this year, and for as long as you give me earthly life. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Little Children

When He had placed His hands on them, He went on from there. Matthew 19:15 NIV

The little children had come for one reason; they wanted Jesus to touch them. The disciples rebuked those who brought them. Afterall, this was Jesus, they must have thought. Jesus was too important to be wasting time with children. Or was He?

I don't think Jesus scolded the disciples when He said "let the little children come to me". I think He patiently used this as a teaching moment. He told the disciples that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these. So, exactly what does that mean, anyway?

Little children have a unique way of being bluntly honest, don't they? Like the time we were invited to a friend's house for dinner. One of our boys walked in and immediately said, "Yuk, what's that strange smell?" Or, when the other one, that same night, said about the main course, "Ooh, what's that? Momma, do I have to eat this?" As much as I wanted to be under the table, and I recognized I did have some manner training to impart, I knew they were saying aloud what I had thought privately.

I think it's that honesty of heart that Christ was seeing in these children. They didn't come to Jesus for money. They weren't looking for an autograph from a football hero. He wasn't the latest wrestling fad. He was Jesus. They recognized that there was something about Him that they wanted. They just wanted Him to "touch" them.

Oh, dear friend, they knew something you and I should remember: We haven't really been touched until we've been touched by Jesus! The Kingdom of Heaven is based on such faith.

Oh, Jesus, in this New Year touch us like you've never touched us before. That's all we ask. Touch us and that will be enough.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

New Wine and Old Skins, by Phil Ware

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks." "He's old and stuck in his
ways." "She's never going to change."

There is an ingrained, all-too-often-proved-true, prejudice that when
we get older we can't, or won't, change any more. This is despite some
great examples in the Bible -- like Abraham, Sarah, Moses, and Caleb
and that's just the first six books -- and some great passages of
Scripture that challenge us to keep on changing to become more like
Jesus:

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting
away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day (2 Corinthians
4:16). Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord
is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces
contemplate/reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into
his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord,
who is the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).

Two of my favorite people in the Bible are old in years, but fresh and
new in faith. They are Anna and Simeon, who greeted the baby Jesus at
the Temple in Jerusalem (Luke 2:22-38 TNIV). I wonder how many asked
them, "Why can't you just act our age?" or "When are you going to be
more realistic?" But they kept believing -- believing in the vision and
the answer to their prayers.

On top of the biblical examples are the modern ones. I have a friend
who turned 80 about 18 months ago. Since his birthday, he has been on
mission trips to Ghana and Central America. I have a sweet sister in
Christ who is 101, and she prays the most moving prayers when I visit
her. I have been blessed to baptize someone into Christ who was beyond
his 80th birthday and have seen four of my shepherds each hold the leg
of a chair so a lady over 90 could be baptized even though her legs
were paralyzed. Each of these people was passionate to honor the Lord
no matter where that path of honor might lead them.

It's a matter of heart, not age!

All of these people are proof that you may not be able to put new wine
in old wineskins, but can put new wine in open hearts! Jesus brings
that new wine to all who are passionate to honor him and follow him.

It's a matter of heart, not age!

It's a matter of faith, not experience!

So as we stand on the edge of the New Year, no matter what age we are,
let's make a commitment that we will never quit growing and reaching
toward Jesus. While resolutions may come and go with each New Year, the
commitment to grow with Jesus continues right up to the moment we meet
him face-to-face.

Morning & Evening -- John 7:37 and Jeremiah 8:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 31, 2007

MORNING:

"In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and
cried, saying, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and
drink."
-- John 7:37

Patience had her perfect work in the Lord Jesus, and until the last day
of the feast he pleaded with the Jews, even as on this last day of the
year he pleads with us, and waits to be gracious to us. Admirable
indeed is the longsuffering of the Saviour in bearing with some of us
year after year, notwithstanding our provocations, rebellions, and
resistance of his Holy Spirit. Wonder of wonders that we are still in
the land of mercy!

Pity expressed herself most plainly, for Jesus cried, which implies not
only the loudness of his voice, but the tenderness of his tones. He
entreats us to be reconciled. "We pray you," says the Apostle, "as
though God did beseech you by us." What earnest, pathetic terms are
these! How deep must be the love which makes the Lord weep over
sinners, and like a mother woo his children to his bosom! Surely at the
call of such a cry our willing hearts will come.

Provision is made most plenteously; all is provided that man can need
to quench his soul's thirst. To his conscience the atonement brings
peace; to his understanding the gospel brings the richest instruction;
to his heart the person of Jesus is the noblest object of affection; to
the whole man the truth as it is in Jesus supplies the purest
nutriment. Thirst is terrible, but Jesus can remove it. Though the soul
were utterly famished, Jesus could restore it.

Proclamation is made most freely, that every thirsty one is welcome. No
other distinction is made but that of thirst. Whether it be the thirst
of avarice, ambition, pleasure, knowledge, or rest, he who suffers from
it is invited. The thirst may be bad in itself, and be no sign of
grace, but rather a mark of inordinate sin longing to be gratified with
deeper draughts of lust; but it is not goodness in the creature which
brings him the invitation, the Lord Jesus sends it freely, and without
respect of persons.

Personality is declared most fully. The sinner must come to Jesus, not
to works, ordinances, or doctrines, but to a personal Redeemer, who his
own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree. The bleeding,
dying, rising Saviour, is the only star of hope to a sinner. Oh for
grace to come now and drink, ere the sun sets upon the year's last day!

No waiting or preparation is so much as hinted at. Drinking represents
a reception for which no fitness is required. A fool, a thief, a harlot
can drink; and so sinfulness of character is no bar to the invitation
to believe in Jesus. We want no golden cup, no bejewelled chalice, in
which to convey the water to the thirsty; the mouth of poverty is
welcome to stoop down and quaff the flowing flood. Blistered, leprous,
filthy lips may touch the stream of divine love; they cannot pollute
it, but shall themselves be purified. Jesus is the fount of hope. Dear
reader, hear the dear Redeemer's loving voice as he cries to each of
us,

"IF ANY MAN THIRST,
LET HIM
COME UNTO ME
AND DRINK."

EVENING:

"The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not
saved."
-- Jeremiah 8:20

Not saved! Dear reader, is this your mournful plight? Warned of the
judgment to come, bidden to escape for your life, and yet at this
moment not saved! You know the way of salvation, you read it in the
Bible, you hear it from the pulpit, it is explained to you by friends,
and yet you neglect it, and therefore you are not saved. You will be
without excuse when the Lord shall judge the quick and dead. The Holy
Spirit has given more or less of blessing upon the word which has been
preached in your hearing, and times of refreshing have come from the
divine presence, and yet you are without Christ. All these hopeful
seasons have come and gone-your summer and your harvest have past-and
yet you are not saved. Years have followed one another into eternity,
and your last year will soon be here: youth has gone, manhood is going,
and yet you are not saved. Let me ask you-will you ever be saved? Is
there any likelihood of it? Already the most propitious seasons have
left you unsaved; will other occasions alter your condition? Means have
failed with you-the best of means, used perseveringly and with the
utmost affection-what more can be done for you? Affliction and
prosperity have alike failed to impress you; tears and prayers and
sermons have been wasted on your barren heart. Are not the
probabilities dead against your ever being saved? Is it not more than
likely that you will abide as you are till death for ever bars the door
of hope? Do you recoil from the supposition? Yet it is a most
reasonable one: he who is not washed in so many waters will in all
probability go filthy to his end. The convenient time never has come,
why should it ever come? It is logical to fear that it never will
arrive, and that Felix like, you will find no convenient season till
you are in hell. O bethink you of what that hell is, and of the dread
probability that you will soon be cast into it!

Reader, suppose you should die unsaved, your doom no words can picture.
Write out your dread estate in tears and blood, talk of it with groans
and gnashing of teeth: you will be punished with everlasting
destruction from the glory of the Lord, and from the glory of his
power. A brother's voice would fain startle you into earnestness. O be
wise, be wise in time, and ere another year begins, believe in Jesus,
who is able to save to the uttermost. Consecrate these last hours to
lonely thought, and if deep repentance be bred in you, it will be well;
and if it lead to a humble faith in Jesus, it will be best of all. O
see to it that this year pass not away, and you an unforgiven spirit.
Let not the new year's midnight peals sound upon a joyless spirit! Now,
NOW, NOW believe, and live.

"ESCAPE FOR THY LIFE;
LOOK NOT BEHIND THEE,
NEITHER STAY THOU IN ALL THE PLAIN;
ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAIN,
LEST THOU BE CONSUMED."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Yesterday"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 31, 2007

YESTERDAY

The God of Israel will be your rereward.

Isaiah 52:12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+52:12&sr=1

Security from Yesterday. "God requireth that which is past." At the
end of the year we turn with eagerness to all that God has for the
future, and yet anxiety is apt to arise from remembering the
yesterdays. Our present enjoyment of God's grace is apt to be checked
by the memory of yesterday's sins and blunders. But God is the God of
our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them in order to turn the
past into a ministry of spiritual culture for the future. God reminds
us of the past lest we get into a shallow security in the present.

Security for To-morrow. "For the Lord will go before you." This is a
gracious revelation, that God will garrison where we have failed to.
He will watch lest things trip us up again into like failure, as they
assuredly would do if He were not our rereward. God's hand reaches
back to the past and makes a clearing-house for conscience.

Security for To-day. "For ye shall not go out with haste." As we go
forth into the coming year, let it not be in the haste of impetuous,
unremembering delight, nor with the flight of impulsive
thoughtlessness, but with the patient power of knowing that the God
of Israel will go before us. Our yesterdays present irreparable
things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will
never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a
constructive thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but
let it sleep on the bosom of Christ.

Leave the Irreparable Past in His hands, and step out into the
Irresistible Future with Him.

Praying with Paul : "Filling the Earth with God's Goodness"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

FILLING THE EARTH WITH GOD'S GOODNESS

Philemon 1-16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philemon+1-16

Dear Father, bestower of freedom,

Thank you for the love and the faith which you have put in your
people. Please help them share this with each other and with the
world. Let this promote the knowledge of all the good that is ours
in Christ Jesus. Put such joy in our hearts and such gladness on
our faces that people will want to know what makes us happy.

Help each of us to render such help and comfort, expressing our
love, that the hearts of all your holy people will be refreshed.
Help us not to make demands on each other, but to entreat, seeking
consent, so that the good we ask from others might not be given
through compulsion but through free will. Help us to bind up broken
relationships. Help us to be willing to step into the breach, to
enable others to make amends, even if it costs us money, effort, or
time.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with our spirits. In his name I
ask. Amen.

Filled with Joy and Praise

Jesus said to them, "Remember when I was with you before? I
said that everything written about me must happen--everything
written in the law of Moses, the books of the prophets, and
the Psalms." Then Jesus helped the followers understand these
Scriptures written {about him}. Jesus said to them, "It is
written that the Christ would be killed and rise from death
on the third day. You saw these things happen--you are
witnesses. You must go and tell people that their sins can be
forgiven. Tell them that they must change their hearts and be
sorry for their sins. If they will do this, then God will
forgive them. You must start from Jerusalem and tell people
these things in my name. This Good News must be told to all
people in the world. Listen! My Father has promised you
something; I will send it to you. But you must stay in
Jerusalem until you have received that power from heaven."
Jesus led his followers out of Jerusalem almost to Bethany.
Jesus raised his hands and blessed his followers. While Jesus
was blessing them, he was separated from them and carried
into heaven. The followers worshiped him there. Then they
went back to the city. They were very happy. They stayed at
the temple all the time, praising God.

-- Luke 24:44-53 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
What is our purpose now that we fully believe that Jesus is raised from
the dead? What should be our response to this year of walking with
Jesus through the Gospel of Luke? Very simply put, we should be filled
with joy that leads us to praise God. Jesus has come and lived among us
as one of us. He loved us so much that he would rather die for us than
live without us. However, God's power enabled him to triumph over sin,
death, and the Tomb-master himself, Satan. We now have a great victory
in Jesus and our future is fused to his future. How can we not be a
people of joy? How can we not praise the God of powerful grace and
mighty mercy?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and Almighty God, I praise you for the victory that you have given
me through your Son's life, death, and resurrection. You are worthy of
all glory, honor, praise and adoration. You have sacrificed so much to
bring me to your presence as a cleansed and holy child of the Eternal
King. My heart overflows with joy knowing that I am your child and that
my home is with you. Bless me now as I finish this year and commit to
be your person -- a person of joy and praise. In Jesus' name. Amen.

VERSE:
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and
who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
-- Revelation 1:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Revelation+1:8

THOUGHT:
From beginning to end, our God is there! What is there for us to
fear? What can happen that can change this one undeniable reality?
We belong to the God who is always there, who always cares for us,
and who will always work to bring us salvation! No matter what
happens to us tomorrow, or the next day, or the one after that, our
destiny lies with the God who stretches from beginning to end and
who secures for us life that never ends.

PRAYER:
Father God, thank you for the blessings of this past year.
Please guide me as I seek to use your blessings in the coming year.
Inspire my confidence about your future for me and fill me with joy
because of your salvation. For all that has been good, holy, and
gracious, I give you thanks and praise. For all the ways I've
sinned, failed, or stumbled, I ask for your forgiveness. And for
tomorrow, and another new day and another new year, I await with
anticipation and gladness for I know that I will see them come or I
will be at home with you where days and years no longer matter. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Peace?, by Tom Norvell

We've heard now for several weeks. The angels announced the coming of
the Lord with these words:

"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is
Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby
wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company
of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and
saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on
whom his favor rests." (Luke 2:11-14)

Along the journey with his disciples Jesus spoke these words:

* Luke 12:51 "Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell
you, but division."

* John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not
give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled
and do not be afraid."

* John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may
have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world."

After the Resurrection Jesus spoke these words:

* John 20:19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the
disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the
Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with
you!"

* John 20:21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has
sent me, I am sending you."

* John 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and
Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and
stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"

Do you get the feeling the Lord is trying to send us a message? It
seems that the message is simply this: Only in me you will find peace.

He is our peace!

We have a hard time with that, don't we? We tend to search for peace,
but often in the wrong places. It seems that God's message to us is
that peace is not found in things -- our post-Christmas blues testifies
to that. It does not matter what things you found wrapped in bright
colored paper lying under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.
Peace is only found in the one who was found lying in a manger wrapped
in swaddling clothes.

God seems to be saying that peace is found in having a relationship
with Jesus that is real, a relationship that is spiritual and yet real
to the world in which we live, a relationship in which we realize that
only with a relationship with Jesus can we ever be right God.

God seems to be saying that staying busy will not bring us peace. We
know that. Yet, we seem to be obsessed with staying as busy as
possible. "Slowing down is not an option," has become the standard
excuse. Wearing ourselves out will not bring us peace. There will
always be more to do. Even religious busy-ness won't bring us peace.
Memorizing another verse will not bring us peace, attending another
service or meeting will not bring us peace, and doing more good works
will not bring us peace -- not if we lose sight of Jesus. Peace will
come with Him, in Him, and by Him.

God seems to be saying that the absence of trouble is not a sign of
peace. Jesus said, "You will have trouble in this life." We say,
"Amen!" to that. But He also says, "I have overcome the world." We will
find peace in Him. When we do not understand His plans or how He works,
our peace will be in Him. When we are not able to see into the future,
or understand the past, our peace will be found in Him. When life seems
unfair, He will still be our peace. When we cannot find our way through
this life, He will be our peace. When we cannot grasp our purpose in
this world, He will be our peace.

Jesus is our peace.

He is our peace in this season ... the coming season ... and in all the
seasons ahead.

Peace be with you!

Morning & Evening -- Ecclesiastes 7:8 and 2 Samuel 2:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, December 30, 2007

MORNING:

"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof."
-- Ecclesiastes 7:8

Look at David's Lord and Master; see his beginning. He was despised and
rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Would you
see the end? He sits at his Father's right hand, expecting until his
enemies be made his footstool. "As he is, so are we also in this
world." You must bear the cross, or you shall never wear the crown; you
must wade through the mire, or you shall never walk the golden
pavement. Cheer up, then, poor Christian. "Better is the end of a thing
than the beginning thereof." See that creeping worm, how contemptible
its appearance! It is the beginning of a thing. Mark that insect with
gorgeous wings, playing in the sunbeams, sipping at the flower bells,
full of happiness and life; that is the end thereof. That caterpillar
is yourself, until you are wrapped up in the chrysalis of death; but
when Christ shall appear you shall be like him, for you shall see him
as he is. Be content to be like him, a worm and no man, that like him
you may be satisfied when you wake up in his likeness. That
rough-looking diamond is put upon the wheel of the lapidary. He cuts it
on all sides. It loses much-much that seemed costly to itself. The king
is crowned; the diadem is put upon the monarch's head with trumpet's
joyful sound. A glittering ray flashes from that coronet, and it beams
from that very diamond which was just now so sorely vexed by the
lapidary. You may venture to compare yourself to such a diamond, for
you are one of God's people; and this is the time of the cutting
process. Let faith and patience have their perfect work, for in the day
when the crown shall be set upon the head of the King, Eternal,
Immortal, Invisible, one ray of glory shall stream from you. "They
shall be mine," saith the Lord, "in the day when I make up my jewels."
"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof."

EVENING:

"Knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter
end?"
-- 2 Samuel 2:26

If, O my reader! thou art merely a professor, and not a possessor of
the faith that is in Christ Jesus, the following lines are a true ketch
of thine end.

You are a respectable attendant at a place of worship; you go because
others go, not because your heart is right with God. This is your
beginning. I will suppose that for the next twenty or thirty years you
will be spared to go on as you do now, professing religion by an
outward attendance upon the means of grace, but having no heart in the
matter. Tread softly, for I must show you the deathbed of such a one as
yourself. Let us gaze upon him gently. A clammy sweat is on his brow,
and he wakes up crying, "O God, it is hard to die. Did you send for my
minister?" "Yes, he is coming." The minister comes. "Sir, I fear that I
am dying!" "Have you any hope?" "I cannot say that I have. I fear to
stand before my God; oh! pray for me." The prayer is offered for him
with sincere earnestness, and the way of salvation is for the
ten-thousandth time put before him, but before he has grasped the rope,
I see him sink. I may put my finger upon those cold eyelids, for they
will never see anything here again. But where is the man, and where are
the man's true eyes? It is written, "In hell he lifted up his eyes,
being in torment." Ah! why did he not lift up his eyes before? Because
he was so accustomed to hear the gospel that his soul slept under it.
Alas! if you should lift up your eyes there, how bitter will be your
wailings. Let the Saviour's own words reveal the woe: "Father Abraham,
send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool
my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame." There is a frightful
meaning in those words. May you never have to spell it out by the red
light of Jehovah's wrath!

My Utmost For His Highest : ""And Every Virtue We Possess""

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 30, 2007

"AND EVERY VIRTUE WE POSSESS"

All my fresh springs shall be in Thee.

Psalms 87:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ps+87:7&sr=1

Our Lord never patches up our natural virtues, He re-makes the whole
man on the inside. "Put on the new man," i.e., see that your natural
human life puts on the garb that is in keeping with the new life. The
life God plants in us develops its own virtues, not the virtues of
Adam but of Jesus Christ. Watch how God will wither up your
confidence in natural virtues after sanctification, and in any power
you have, until you learn to draw your life from the reservoir of the
resurrection life of Jesus. Thank God if you are going through a
drying-up experience!

The sign that God is at work in us is that He corrupts confidence in
the natural virtues, because they are not promises of what we are
going to be, but renmants of what God created man to be. We will
cling to the natural virtues, while all the time God is trying to get
us into contact with the life of Jesus Christ which can never be
described in terms of the natural virtues. It is the saddest thing to
see people in the service of God depending on that which the grace of
God never gave them, depending on what they have by the accident of
heredity. God does not build up our natural virtues and transfigure
them, because our natural virtues can never come anywhere near what
Jesus Christ wants. No natural love, no natural patience, no natural
purity can ever come up to His demands. But as we bring every bit of
our bodily life into harmony with the new life which God has put in
us, He will exhibit in us the virtues that were characteristic of the
Lord Jesus.

"And every virtue we possess
Is His alone."

WORKING TOGETHER

Colossians 4:12-18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+4:12-18

Dear Father,

Help us to remember each other earnestly in our prayers.

Help us to stand mature and to be fully assured in your will.

Help us encourage one another to carry our assigned works to
completion.

Help us fulfil whatever ministry we have received in the Lord.

Help us to remember those who are in prison, and those who suffer
in any way for your service.

May your perfect grace sustain and keep all of us.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- No Ghost! -- Luke 24:36-43

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! --

No Ghost!

While the two men were saying these things, Jesus himself
stood among the group of followers. Jesus said to them,
"Peace be with you." This surprised the followers. They
became afraid. They thought they were seeing a ghost. But
Jesus said, "Why are you troubled? Why do you doubt what you
see? Look at my hands and my feet. It's really me! Touch me.
You can see that I have a living body; a ghost does not have
a body like this." After Jesus told them this, he showed them
{the holes in} his hands and feet. The followers were amazed
and very, very happy to see that Jesus was alive. They still
could not believe what they saw. Jesus said to them, "Do you
have any food here?" They gave him a piece of cooked fish.
While the followers watched, Jesus took the fish and ate it.

-- Luke 24:36-43 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Sometimes things are just too good to be true. In fact, we are told
that one way to sniff out a scam is by the principle "If it seems too
good to be true, then it probably is!" In this case, however, it is
true. They had trouble believing in Jesus' resurrection because it just
seemed too good to be true. So Jesus goes to great lengths to help them
understand that he is not a ghost or a figment of their imaginations.
He had them touch him and see his scars. He ate fish in their presence.
Jesus' resurrection is too good to be true ... but it is true and
because of this, everything is possible for his disciples!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, give me the eyes to see and the ears to hear the great news you
have given me in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. I know it is too
good to be true, but I believe that it is true and want to live out my
life based on that faith. Strengthen that faith through your Holy
Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Isaiah 42:8-9

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 30, 2007

VERSE:
"I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to
another. ... See, the former things have taken place, and new
things I declare; before they spring into being, I tell you of
them."
-- Isaiah 42:8-9

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+42:8-9

THOUGHT:
No matter what happens over the next few days, months, or
years, God is already there! He is not bound by space and time. He
creates reality by his powerful word. While some may tremble with
fear because of the unknown, Christians can take comfort in knowing
that wherever we find ourselves, our Father is already there. He is
already working on our deliverance and salvation. Even now he is
declaring new things for us -- things about our future that we
cannot see. So as we journey into our unknown future, let's make
sure we journey with the one to whom the future is not unknown.

PRAYER:
Thank you Father! You know where my life and my world are
headed. With so much tumult about the changing of the year and the
passing of time, I consciously and confidently trust that my future
is in your hands. There is no other place I would rather it be!
Please bless me with confidence and banish anxiety from my heart as
your future unfolds before me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
