Today's Verse : Revelation 1:8

December 31, 2007

VERSE:
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and
who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
-- Revelation 1:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Revelation+1:8

THOUGHT:
From beginning to end, our God is there! What is there for us to
fear? What can happen that can change this one undeniable reality?
We belong to the God who is always there, who always cares for us,
and who will always work to bring us salvation! No matter what
happens to us tomorrow, or the next day, or the one after that, our
destiny lies with the God who stretches from beginning to end and
who secures for us life that never ends.

PRAYER:
Father God, thank you for the blessings of this past year.
Please guide me as I seek to use your blessings in the coming year.
Inspire my confidence about your future for me and fill me with joy
because of your salvation. For all that has been good, holy, and
gracious, I give you thanks and praise. For all the ways I've
sinned, failed, or stumbled, I ask for your forgiveness. And for
tomorrow, and another new day and another new year, I await with
anticipation and gladness for I know that I will see them come or I
will be at home with you where days and years no longer matter. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Peace?, by Tom Norvell

We've heard now for several weeks. The angels announced the coming of
the Lord with these words:

"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is
Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby
wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company
of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and
saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on
whom his favor rests." (Luke 2:11-14)

Along the journey with his disciples Jesus spoke these words:

* Luke 12:51 "Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell
you, but division."

* John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not
give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled
and do not be afraid."

* John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may
have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world."

After the Resurrection Jesus spoke these words:

* John 20:19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the
disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the
Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with
you!"

* John 20:21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has
sent me, I am sending you."

* John 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and
Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and
stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"

Do you get the feeling the Lord is trying to send us a message? It
seems that the message is simply this: Only in me you will find peace.

He is our peace!

We have a hard time with that, don't we? We tend to search for peace,
but often in the wrong places. It seems that God's message to us is
that peace is not found in things -- our post-Christmas blues testifies
to that. It does not matter what things you found wrapped in bright
colored paper lying under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.
Peace is only found in the one who was found lying in a manger wrapped
in swaddling clothes.

God seems to be saying that peace is found in having a relationship
with Jesus that is real, a relationship that is spiritual and yet real
to the world in which we live, a relationship in which we realize that
only with a relationship with Jesus can we ever be right God.

God seems to be saying that staying busy will not bring us peace. We
know that. Yet, we seem to be obsessed with staying as busy as
possible. "Slowing down is not an option," has become the standard
excuse. Wearing ourselves out will not bring us peace. There will
always be more to do. Even religious busy-ness won't bring us peace.
Memorizing another verse will not bring us peace, attending another
service or meeting will not bring us peace, and doing more good works
will not bring us peace -- not if we lose sight of Jesus. Peace will
come with Him, in Him, and by Him.

God seems to be saying that the absence of trouble is not a sign of
peace. Jesus said, "You will have trouble in this life." We say,
"Amen!" to that. But He also says, "I have overcome the world." We will
find peace in Him. When we do not understand His plans or how He works,
our peace will be in Him. When we are not able to see into the future,
or understand the past, our peace will be found in Him. When life seems
unfair, He will still be our peace. When we cannot find our way through
this life, He will be our peace. When we cannot grasp our purpose in
this world, He will be our peace.

Jesus is our peace.

He is our peace in this season ... the coming season ... and in all the
seasons ahead.

Peace be with you!

Morning & Evening -- Ecclesiastes 7:8 and 2 Samuel 2:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, December 30, 2007

MORNING:

"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof."
-- Ecclesiastes 7:8

Look at David's Lord and Master; see his beginning. He was despised and
rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Would you
see the end? He sits at his Father's right hand, expecting until his
enemies be made his footstool. "As he is, so are we also in this
world." You must bear the cross, or you shall never wear the crown; you
must wade through the mire, or you shall never walk the golden
pavement. Cheer up, then, poor Christian. "Better is the end of a thing
than the beginning thereof." See that creeping worm, how contemptible
its appearance! It is the beginning of a thing. Mark that insect with
gorgeous wings, playing in the sunbeams, sipping at the flower bells,
full of happiness and life; that is the end thereof. That caterpillar
is yourself, until you are wrapped up in the chrysalis of death; but
when Christ shall appear you shall be like him, for you shall see him
as he is. Be content to be like him, a worm and no man, that like him
you may be satisfied when you wake up in his likeness. That
rough-looking diamond is put upon the wheel of the lapidary. He cuts it
on all sides. It loses much-much that seemed costly to itself. The king
is crowned; the diadem is put upon the monarch's head with trumpet's
joyful sound. A glittering ray flashes from that coronet, and it beams
from that very diamond which was just now so sorely vexed by the
lapidary. You may venture to compare yourself to such a diamond, for
you are one of God's people; and this is the time of the cutting
process. Let faith and patience have their perfect work, for in the day
when the crown shall be set upon the head of the King, Eternal,
Immortal, Invisible, one ray of glory shall stream from you. "They
shall be mine," saith the Lord, "in the day when I make up my jewels."
"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof."

EVENING:

"Knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter
end?"
-- 2 Samuel 2:26

If, O my reader! thou art merely a professor, and not a possessor of
the faith that is in Christ Jesus, the following lines are a true ketch
of thine end.

You are a respectable attendant at a place of worship; you go because
others go, not because your heart is right with God. This is your
beginning. I will suppose that for the next twenty or thirty years you
will be spared to go on as you do now, professing religion by an
outward attendance upon the means of grace, but having no heart in the
matter. Tread softly, for I must show you the deathbed of such a one as
yourself. Let us gaze upon him gently. A clammy sweat is on his brow,
and he wakes up crying, "O God, it is hard to die. Did you send for my
minister?" "Yes, he is coming." The minister comes. "Sir, I fear that I
am dying!" "Have you any hope?" "I cannot say that I have. I fear to
stand before my God; oh! pray for me." The prayer is offered for him
with sincere earnestness, and the way of salvation is for the
ten-thousandth time put before him, but before he has grasped the rope,
I see him sink. I may put my finger upon those cold eyelids, for they
will never see anything here again. But where is the man, and where are
the man's true eyes? It is written, "In hell he lifted up his eyes,
being in torment." Ah! why did he not lift up his eyes before? Because
he was so accustomed to hear the gospel that his soul slept under it.
Alas! if you should lift up your eyes there, how bitter will be your
wailings. Let the Saviour's own words reveal the woe: "Father Abraham,
send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool
my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame." There is a frightful
meaning in those words. May you never have to spell it out by the red
light of Jehovah's wrath!

My Utmost For His Highest : ""And Every Virtue We Possess""

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 30, 2007

"AND EVERY VIRTUE WE POSSESS"

All my fresh springs shall be in Thee.

Psalms 87:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ps+87:7&sr=1

Our Lord never patches up our natural virtues, He re-makes the whole
man on the inside. "Put on the new man," i.e., see that your natural
human life puts on the garb that is in keeping with the new life. The
life God plants in us develops its own virtues, not the virtues of
Adam but of Jesus Christ. Watch how God will wither up your
confidence in natural virtues after sanctification, and in any power
you have, until you learn to draw your life from the reservoir of the
resurrection life of Jesus. Thank God if you are going through a
drying-up experience!

The sign that God is at work in us is that He corrupts confidence in
the natural virtues, because they are not promises of what we are
going to be, but renmants of what God created man to be. We will
cling to the natural virtues, while all the time God is trying to get
us into contact with the life of Jesus Christ which can never be
described in terms of the natural virtues. It is the saddest thing to
see people in the service of God depending on that which the grace of
God never gave them, depending on what they have by the accident of
heredity. God does not build up our natural virtues and transfigure
them, because our natural virtues can never come anywhere near what
Jesus Christ wants. No natural love, no natural patience, no natural
purity can ever come up to His demands. But as we bring every bit of
our bodily life into harmony with the new life which God has put in
us, He will exhibit in us the virtues that were characteristic of the
Lord Jesus.

"And every virtue we possess
Is His alone."

No Ghost!

While the two men were saying these things, Jesus himself
stood among the group of followers. Jesus said to them,
"Peace be with you." This surprised the followers. They
became afraid. They thought they were seeing a ghost. But
Jesus said, "Why are you troubled? Why do you doubt what you
see? Look at my hands and my feet. It's really me! Touch me.
You can see that I have a living body; a ghost does not have
a body like this." After Jesus told them this, he showed them
{the holes in} his hands and feet. The followers were amazed
and very, very happy to see that Jesus was alive. They still
could not believe what they saw. Jesus said to them, "Do you
have any food here?" They gave him a piece of cooked fish.
While the followers watched, Jesus took the fish and ate it.

-- Luke 24:36-43 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Sometimes things are just too good to be true. In fact, we are told
that one way to sniff out a scam is by the principle "If it seems too
good to be true, then it probably is!" In this case, however, it is
true. They had trouble believing in Jesus' resurrection because it just
seemed too good to be true. So Jesus goes to great lengths to help them
understand that he is not a ghost or a figment of their imaginations.
He had them touch him and see his scars. He ate fish in their presence.
Jesus' resurrection is too good to be true ... but it is true and
because of this, everything is possible for his disciples!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, give me the eyes to see and the ears to hear the great news you
have given me in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. I know it is too
good to be true, but I believe that it is true and want to live out my
life based on that faith. Strengthen that faith through your Holy
Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
