Today's Verse : 2 Corinthians 5:21

VERSE:
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we
might become the righteousness of God.
-- 2 Corinthians 5:21

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+5:21

THOUGHT:
When was the last time you thought of yourself as "the
righteousness of God"? What does that mean anyway? It means that we
have the best of qualities, found in the best of beings! But we
know we are not god-like! We know our fallibility and flaws! We
know our imperfections and our inconsistencies! How can we be "the
righteousness of God"? Jesus, the perfect and sinless Righteous One
of God, became our sin for us so we could be his righteousness.
More than grace, that's a miracle! And a miracle, dear friend of
Jesus, is exactly what each one of us is!

PRAYER:
Thank you, gracious and loving Father, for saving me and making
me perfect through your sacrificial gift of your Son. Please use me
to communicate your grace and your salvation with someone around me
who hasn't accepted your grace. In the name of Jesus, my older
brother and Savior, I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: One Glimpse 1

We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2 Peter 1:16 NIV

Peter would never be the same. As Peter wrote the letter our Bible titles 2 Peter, he was an old man. He had walked on water, seen Jesus crucified, saw the empty tomb, and witnessed Jesus suddenly appear in the upper room even though the doors were locked. He ate fish with Christ after the resurrection! He had suffered for his faith and become a Christian martyr. Yet, this single incident, up on the mountain, sticks out most clearly in Peter's mind.

You remember the story, Peter, James and John accompanied Jesus to the mountain. The Lord Jesus transformed before their eyes into His glorious form. There they saw Moses and Elijah. Peter was so excited, he offered to build a tent for Jesus and the two saints. (I'm not sure where Peter planned to sleep.) There was something about seeing Jesus in this way, in getting a glimpse of what Heaven would be like, that made Peter want to stay. Now, as an old man, Peter still remembers that day.

We'll talk about that experience over the next couple of days, but until then, let me leave you with this thought: What Peter saw that made him so excited, that he never could get off of his mind, even in his dying days, is what you and I, and all Christians, have to look forward to someday. And, if we can just get a glimpse of Heaven today, we, like Peter, will have a never forget it. It will become the goal of our life, as it had become for Peter.

Ask God for a glimpse of Heaven today!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Coming Home, by Phil Ware

[Special Note: This was originally written nine years ago when our son
was away at college. He and his wife have come to be with us for
Thanksgiving, so Donna and I will have all of our family here for the
holidays -- our son and his wife, our daughter, and both sets of
parents. This old article means even more, now, than it did then! I
hope you are blessed with family this week, and if not, I pray truly
that God's Spiritual family will fold you in its arms.]

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in
me. My Father's house has plenty of room; if that were not so,
would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for
you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and
take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know
the way to the place where I am going" (John 14:1-4 TNIV, spoken by
Jesus).

In just a few hours, he will be coming home. His room is ready, the
plans are made, the waiting is nearly done. But, it's different being
on this end of things. I've been the one who has traveled and returned
home. I remember the joy of being home after a long trip. I never
really thought that much about being on the waiting end, the longing
end, of a returning child. It is an impatient wait, a restless
anticipation of a greater joy.

It's not like we haven't seen each other in a long time! It's just that
I miss him not being here. I'm happy for him -- the friends he has
made, the work he has done, the life he has built. But he has been away
from me, and home is not quite the same without him. I'm anxious to
have him here to enjoy the holidays -- a traditional Thanksgiving meal,
football, a little shopping, and just buddying around. But most of all,
I am anxious to have him here with me. Home will seem a little more
like home with him here.

I know he longs for the day of homecoming and reunion.

This waiting has given me a new appreciation for a side of heaven I had
never imagined. I think now about my waiting Father. He sent his Son.
He watched as his Son bore great indignities and death. He has seen him
triumph over the grave. He rejoiced as the Son poured out the Spirit.
He has celebrated with the angels as millions have shared in the Son's
death and resurrection through faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift
of the Holy Spirit. But now he waits. He lives in the world of
expectation, anticipating the Great Feast when all of his children come
home to be with him and to share in this great thanksgiving of joy.

I guess I've sung "Lord come quickly, Hallelujah!" thousands of times.
In all those times, I've never thought about how the Father hears it;
how he hears our hearts being homesick for a place we've never been
before. I know he longs for the day of homecoming and reunion, too. He
yearns for the day that our faith becomes sight and we can see him face
to face in all his glory. He anticipates the day when he will receive
us as his fully adopted children. Unlike us, the Father knows when that
day will occur, but he doesn't let anyone else know. It's his surprise!
The only reason he waits is so that our feast can be bigger and his
banquet hall will be full of children. But I now imagine that it is
hard for him to wait to have me home.

Until that day, every time I wait for my children to come home, I will
remember that I have a waiting Father, too. This Father is happy for me
-- the friends I have made, the work I have done, the life I have
built. After all, these gifts have really come from him. I know he is
anxious to have me home to enjoy the celebration with him. I know my
Brother Jesus has prepared a room for me in the Father's house. I know
the day of going home, the day of great thanksgiving, will come. Most
of all, I now realize that he is even more excited than I am, for me to
come home. I can even imagine that occasionally, as he hears me sing
"Jesus is Lord," he sings back to me, "Child, come home quickly,
Hallelujah!"

Morning & Evening -- Titus 3:9 and Job 23:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 19, 2007

MORNING:

"Avoid foolish questions."
-- Titus 3:9

Our days are few, and are far better spent in doing good, than in
disputing over matters which are, at best, of minor importance. The old
schoolmen did a world of mischief by their incessant discussion of
subjects of no practical importance; and our Churches suffer much from
petty wars over abstruse points and unimportant questions. After
everything has been said that can be said, neither party is any the
wiser, and therefore the discussion no more promotes knowledge than
love, and it is foolish to sow in so barren a field. Questions upon
points wherein Scripture is silent; upon mysteries which belong to God
alone; upon prophecies of doubtful interpretation; and upon mere modes
of observing human ceremonials, are all foolish, and wise men avoid
them. Our business is neither to ask nor answer foolish questions, but
to avoid them altogether; and if we observe the apostle's precept
(Titus 3:8) to be careful to maintain good works, we shall find
ourselves far too much occupied with profitable business to take much
interest in unworthy, contentious, and needless strivings.

There are, however, some questions which are the reverse of foolish,
which we must not avoid, but fairly and honestly meet, such as these:
Do I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Am I renewed in the spirit of my
mind? Am I walking not after the flesh, but after the Spirit? Am I
growing in grace? Does my conversation adorn the doctrine of God my
Saviour? Am I looking for the coming of the Lord, and watching as a
servant should do who expects his master? What more can I do for Jesus?
Such enquiries as these urgently demand our attention; and if we have
been at all given to cavilling, let us now turn our critical abilities
to a service so much more profitable. Let us be peace-makers, and
endeavour to lead others both by our precept and example, to "avoid
foolish questions."

EVENING:

"O that I knew where I might find him!"
-- Job 23:3

In Job's uttermost extremity he cried after the Lord. The longing
desire of an afflicted child of God is once more to see his Father's
face. His first prayer is not "O that I might be healed of the disease
which now festers in every part of my body!" nor even "O that I might
see my children restored from the jaws of the grave, and my property
once more brought from the hand of the spoiler!" but the first and
uppermost cry is, "O that I knew where I might find HIM, who is my God!
that I might come even to his seat!" God's children run home when the
storm comes on. It is the heaven-born instinct of a gracious soul to
seek shelter from all ills beneath the wings of Jehovah. "He that hath
made his refuge God," might serve as the title of a true believer. A
hypocrite, when afflicted by God, resents the infliction, and, like a
slave, would run from the Master who has scourged him; but not so the
true heir of heaven, he kisses the hand which smote him, and seeks
shelter from the rod in the bosom of the God who frowned upon him.
Job's desire to commune with God was intensified by the failure of all
other sources of consolation. The patriarch turned away from his sorry
friends, and looked up to the celestial throne, just as a traveller
turns from his empty skin bottle, and betakes himself with all speed to
the well. He bids farewell to earth-born hopes, and cries, "O that I
knew where I might find my God!" Nothing teaches us so much the
preciousness of the Creator, as when we learn the emptiness of all
besides. Turning away with bitter scorn from earth's hives, where we
find no honey, but many sharp stings, we rejoice in him whose faithful
word is sweeter than honey or the honeycomb. In every trouble we should
first seek to realize God's presence with us. Only let us enjoy his
smile, and we can bear our daily cross with a willing heart for his
dear sake.

My Utmost For His Highest : "When He Is Come"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 19, 2007

WHEN HE IS COME

And when He is come, He will convict the world of sin...
.

John 16:8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+16:8&sr=1

Very few of us know anything about conviction of sin; we know the
experience of being disturbed because of having done wrong things;
but conviction of sin by the Holy Ghost blots out every relationship
on earth and leaves one relationship only - "Against Thee, Thee only,
have I sinned!" When a man is convicted of sin in this way, he knows
with every power of his conscience that God dare not forgive him; if
God did forgive him, the man would have a stronger sense of justice
than God. God does forgive, but it cost the rending of His heart in
the Death of Christ to enable Him to do so. The great miracle of the
grace of God is that He forgives sin, and it is the death of Jesus
Christ alone that enables the Divine nature to for give and to remain
true to itself in doing so. It is shallow nonsense to say that God
forgives us because He is love. When we have been convicted of sin we
will never say this again. The love of God means Calvary, and nothing
less; the love of God is spelt on the Cross and nowhere else. The
only ground on which God can forgive me is through the Cross of my
Lord. There, His conscience is satisfied.

Forgiveness means not merely that I am saved from hell and made right
for heaven (no man would accept forgiveness on such a level);
forgiveness means that I am forgiven into a recreated relationship,
into identification with God in Christ. The miracle of Redemption is
that God turns me, the unholy one, into the standard of Himself, the
Holy One, by putting into me a new disposition, the disposition of

Praying with Paul : "Undivided, Indivisible"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

UNDIVIDED, INDIVISIBLE

Philippians 2:1-2

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+2:1-2

Dear Father, One God of your one holy people,

Help me never to be a party to any division within the body of
Christ. Let me be perfectly united in mind and heart with all
others who follow you.

Help me not to be some kind of -ite, -ist, or -anian. Keep me from
misplacing my loyalties with this person or that!

Christ, of whom I am part, is not divided. He is of one mind. So
let me and all his people be together and in agreement.

Let us be like-minded, having the same love, one in spirit and
purpose.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the source of our unity and
salvation, I ask these things. Amen.

Our Questions Betray Our Hearts

Some Sadducees came to Jesus. (Sadducees believe that people
will not rise from death.) They asked Jesus, "Teacher, Moses
wrote that if a married man dies and had no children, then
his brother must marry the woman. Then they will have
children for the dead brother. One time there were seven
brothers. The first brother married a woman, but died. He had
no children. Then the second brother married the woman, and
he died. And the third brother married the woman, and he
died. The same thing happened with all the other brothers.
They all died and had no children. The woman was the last to
die. But all seven brothers married her. So when people rise
from death, whose wife will this woman be?"

-- Luke 20:27-33 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Ever notice how the questions we ask often betray what is really in our
hearts? The Sadducees didn't believe in a resurrection. So their
question was a trap, not an earnest seeking of truth. Their hearts were
hardened and their goal was destroying Jesus. Jesus longs to hear our
honest questions and help us to the truth. Sometimes, however, we need
to listen to our own questions and ask the Lord what they reveal about
hearts!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, give me a clean heart and pure motives as I seek your truth. In
Jesus' name I ask it. Amen.
