=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

It Seems Too Good To Be True, by Steve Ridgell

He was a great athlete: All State in football and recruited to play
baseball at a major university. He had been around Christians and
church all of his life but never really connected. While in college, he
had some injuries that resulted in reliance on medication that
eventually led to substance abuse. He returned home a shell of the man
he used to be. He was a wreck physically and emotionally.

Someone suggested that he come visit with me, and he did. Over time, I
shared the good news of Jesus with him. We talked about the God who
made him and loved him. We talked about what a mess his life was …
right after we talked about how I had made a mess of my life. I shared
the amazing story of God's own Son coming to live among us. I told of
the sinless Savior who died for our sins. We talked about the
relationship with Jesus that brings us into the family of God.

I shared the call of Jesus to come and die with him, to share in his
death and resurrection. But he was not ready. He spent almost one year
processing the good news of Jesus. He had to realize he could not make
his life work on his own. He began to watch his own family try to live
out their faith. He started dating a Christian woman. He visited
worship often.

Then one night it all clicked. I wish I could tell you it was what he
heard me say, but I think it just all finally made sense. He decided to
give his life to Jesus in baptism. We got ready, and then he wouldn't
go in the water. He could not go through with it. After about one hour,
we got to the root of the problem. He just could not accept the fact
that God could forgive someone who had messed up as much as he had. So
I shared my story, his dad shared his story, a family friend shared
his. We prayed together. I could see that he had to decide if this
whole Jesus story was just too good to be true.

It is hard to believe God can forgive someone as messed up as me. But
he did ...

And that was when I knew he was about to get it. That is why it is good
news … and it is true. It does not matter what you have done, or how
bad you have been. No one is good enough to save themselves anyway. So
Jesus did it for us.

And this young man did get it, we did baptize him, and he is my
brother. Thanks to Jesus.

true, visit www.hopeforlife.com. Or write me at steve@hopeforlife.org.

Morning & Evening -- Titus 3:4 and 1 Timothy 3:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

MORNING:

"The kindness and love of God our Saviour."
-- Titus 3:4

How sweet it is to behold the Saviour communing with his own beloved
people! There can be nothing more delightful than, by the Divine
Spirit, to be led into this fertile field of delight. Let the mind for
an instant consider the history of the Redeemer's love, and a thousand
enchanting acts of affection will suggest themselves, all of which have
had for their design the weaving of the heart into Christ, and the
intertwisting of the thoughts and emotions of the renewed soul with the
mind of Jesus. When we meditate upon this amazing love, and behold the
all-glorious Kinsman of the Church endowing her with all his ancient
wealth, our souls may well faint for joy. Who is he that can endure
such a weight of love? That partial sense of it which the Holy Spirit
is sometimes pleased to afford, is more than the soul can contain; how
transporting must be a complete view of it! When the soul shall have
understanding to discern all the Saviour's gifts, wisdom wherewith to
estimate them, and time in which to meditate upon them, such as the
world to come will afford us, we shall then commune with Jesus in a
nearer manner than at present. But who can imagine the sweetness of
such fellowship? It must be one of the things which have not entered
into the heart of man, but which God hath prepared for them that love
him. Oh, to burst open the door of our Joseph's granaries, and see the
plenty which he hath stored up for us! This will overwhelm us with
love. By faith we see, as in a glass darkly, the reflected image of his
unbounded treasures, but when we shall actually see the heavenly things
themselves, with our own eyes, how deep will be the stream of
fellowship in which our soul shall bathe itself! Till then our loudest
sonnets shall be reserved for our loving benefactor, Jesus Christ our
Lord, whose love to us is wonderful, passing the love of women.

EVENING:

"Received up into glory."
-- 1 Timothy 3:16

We have seen our well-beloved Lord in the days of his flesh, humiliated
and sore vexed; for he was "despised and rejected of men, a man of
sorrows, and acquainted with grief." He whose brightness is as the
morning, wore the sackcloth of sorrow as his daily dress: shame was his
mantle, and reproach was his vesture. Yet now, inasmuch as he has
triumphed over all the powers of darkness upon the bloody tree, our
faith beholds our King returning with dyed garments from Edom, robed in
the splendour of victory. How glorious must he have been in the eyes of
seraphs, when a cloud received him out of mortal sight, and he ascended
up to heaven! Now he wears the glory which he had with God or ever the
earth was, and yet another glory above all-that which he has well
earned in the fight against sin, death, and hell. As victor he wears
the illustrious crown. Hark how the song swells high! It is a new and
sweeter song: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, for he hath redeemed
us unto God by his blood!" He wears the glory of an Intercessor who can
never fail, of a Prince who can never be defeated, of a Conqueror who
has vanquished every foe, of a Lord who has the heart's allegiance of
every subject. Jesus wears all the glory which the pomp of heaven can
bestow upon him, which ten thousand times ten thousand angels can
minister to him. You cannot with your utmost stretch of imagination
conceive his exceeding greatness; yet there will be a further
revelation of it when he shall descend from heaven in great power, with
all the holy angels-"Then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory."
Oh, the splendour of that glory! It will ravish his people's hearts.
Nor is this the close, for eternity shall sound his praise, "Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever!" Reader, if you would joy in
Christ's glory hereafter, he must be glorious in your sight now. Is he
so?

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Never-Failing God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 4, 2008

THE NEVER-FAILING GOD

For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake
thee.

Hebrews 8:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+8:5&sr=1

What line does my thought take? Does it turn to what God says or to
what I fear? Am I learning to say not what God says, but to say
something after I have heard what He says? "He hath said, I will
never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The
Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."

"I will in no wise fail thee" - not for all my sin and selfishness
and stubbornness and waywardness. Have I really let God say to me
that He will never fail me? If I have listened to this say-so of
God's, then let me listen again.

"Neither will I in any wise forsake thee." Sometimes it is not
difficulty that makes me think God will forsake me, but drudgery.
There is no Hill Difficulty to climb, no vision given, nothing
wonderful or beautiful, just the commonplace day in and day out - can
I hear God's say-so in these things?

We have the idea that God is going to do some exceptional thing, that
He is preparing and fitting us for some extraordinary thing by and
bye, but as we go on in grace we find that God is glorifying Himself
here and now, in the present minute. If we have God's say-so behind
us, the most amazing strength comes, and we learn to sing in the
ordinary days and ways.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Facing Fear 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Facing Fear 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh." Genesis 18:15 NIV

Sarah couldnt believe Gods plan for her life was to have a child. She was so old. It had been so long. Could God even use someone like her?

Sarahs probably not alone in her fear. Ive had those kinds of fears. Chances are you have also. You know God is calling you to do something, but the thought of actually obeying God in the matter freaks you out; scares you to death.

Faith believes something that you cannot see. The unseen or unknown is scary, so fear is a natural reaction to Gods plan for your life. God calls us to the unknown. His plans are usually larger than we might have imagined. God calls us to walk by faith, facing something we cannot see, and that in turn brings fear into our hearts.

So, whats the fear that will require faith for you to accomplish? If you are obedient, what kind of glory will God receive through your faith in Him?

Dont laugh (or at least not for long). God calls people to tasks beyond our ability or understanding everyday! Maybe todays your day!

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

JOYFUL PEOPLE, JOYFUL PRIDE

2 Corinthians 7:11-16

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+7:11-16

Dear Father, who wills the good of all of your children,

Give us great earnestness, eagerness to clear ourselves of evil,
indignation over the hurts done to others, alarm over danger,
longing for what is good, prudence about punishment for evil.

Help us have a real zeal for each other's good, visible within our
hearts to you, our righteous Judge.

Let us find comfort in our forgiveness and acceptance of each
other! Give us great joy in the pride we feel about each other!
Grant that we may justify perfect confidence in each other!

In the name of Jesus I come, asking according to his authority.
Amen.

Listen to Him!

Then a cloud came and covered them. A voice came from the
cloud and said, "This (Jesus) is my Son and I love him. Obey
him!"

-- Mark 9:7 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
God is very clear to the amazed followers of Jesus. As important as
Elijah and Moses are to the Jewish people, among them stands one who is
far superior -- Jesus Christ, his Son and their Lord. They should
listen to Jesus. Jesus is the supreme teacher. Jesus is the supreme
prophet. Jesus is the supreme hope and Messiah of God's people. Listen
to him!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for speaking to us fully and definitively through
your Son -- both while he was on earth and as he continues to provide
guidance and strength for us now. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : Ephesians 6:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 4, 2008

VERSE:
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up
in the training and instruction of the Lord.
-- Ephesians 6:4

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+6:4

THOUGHT:
Malachi 4:6 promised that fathers and children would be reunited
in heart. Let's make that true in our homes by nurturing and
correcting our children -- with a balance between nurture and
correction. Let's not make our faith so full of rules and
restrictions that it becomes impossible for our children to hear
that they are our beloved children, with whom we are very pleased!
Let's not grant so much freedom that our children feel neglected
and uncertain. Let's turn our hearts toward them and pray for God
to turn their hearts toward their home with us and their home with
you!

PRAYER:
O Lord God Almighty, Abba Father, our land lies under a curse
because so many Fathers have spiritually and physically abandoned
their children. Please raise up parents, especially fathers, who
will balance the challenging tasks of love, nurture, and correction
so that our land may be healed and our children may know your love
and grace. In Jesus name. Amen.
