Mustard Seed Thoughts: Scary Times

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Scary Times
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you, says the Lord Almighty, and I will accept no offering from your hands. Malachi 1:10 NIV

What a powerful and scary verse! Let me set the stage.

Times were hard for the Israelites. The land was dry. The crops were barely producing. The animals and even people were suffering. The enemies of the Israelites were prevailing in battle. The people, who had time and time again seen the delivering hand of God, were wavering in their faith.

They went to the altar of God, and instead of sacrificing their very best, they gave God their rejects. If they had prize sheep or goats, they kept these for breeding. It was their way of protecting their own investments. After all, they must have thought, in hard times it just didn't make sense to waste the best, of which they had very little, on God. (Oh Lord, forgive me for eve n having to type that!)

God would not accept their half-hearted worship! He said He would rather see the church doors closed than to be worshipped in such a way. Whew! That's tough stuff! I don't know about you, but sometimes my worship is half-hearted. Sometimes, especially during the dark days, through the valleys of life, my worship suffers. God just doesn't receive my best.

Let me ask you, if you and I, in whom Christ's Spirit lives, are the temple of God, is there ever a time when He would rather our church doors be closed? May we never again worship Him with anything less than our very best!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

I've Got Nothing!, by Tom Norvell

Lord, I've got nothing!

My mind is jumbled with thoughts that range from excitement, hope, and
anticipation, to confusion, discouragement, and frustration. I am
amazed at the way things have happened in the past, and I wonder what
sort of things will happen in the future. I dwell on the mistakes I
have made, and I marvel the mistakes You have helped me avoid.

Lord, I've got nothing!

I read Your word and I understand that You direct my path and that Your
Word lights the path that I walk. Yet, there are times when I am afraid
to take another step. I read of how You have delivered Your servants
from all types of disaster and calamity, and I realize that I have
often been a recipient of that deliverance. I read of how You hear me
when I have no words and answer me before I speak.

Lord, I've got nothing!

I look ahead of me to the tasks on my calendar for the week and wonder
how I will ever get it all done. I don't have the energy. I don't have
the desire. I don't have the motivation. Then, I look back and see all
the things that You enabled me to do last week when I had just as
little energy, desire and motivation.

Lord, I've got nothing!

People ask me questions for which I have no answers. People come to me
for advice as I go to others for advice. People look to me for wisdom
and knowledge as I come to you for wisdom and knowledge.

That's all I need.

Lord, I've got nothing!

I am tired. I am weak. I am worn. I am a struggler. I am a sinner. I am
a child. I am a human. I have questions. I have fears. I have
temptations. I have pride. I am self-conscious. I am selfish. At times
I am a mess.

I cry out to You, Lord, and I confess that I have nothing! As my cries
grow silent I hear You say:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven" (Matthew 5:3 NIV).

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those
God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of
his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And
those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also
justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who
can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him
up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give
us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has
chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ
Jesus, who died-more than that, who was raised to life-is at the
right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall
separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or
persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is
written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are
considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we
are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am
convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height
nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans
8:28-39).

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9)

You remind of what Paul said so long ago to others like me:

I can do everything through him who gives me strength (Philippians
4:13).

Lord, I have nothing! But, when I stop, listen, and hear Your voice I
realize I have You, and You know me, and You have me. That's all I
need.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 119:49 and Ezekiel 3:7

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

MORNING:

"Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast
caused me to hope."
-- Psalms 119:49

Whatever your especial need may be, you may readily find some promise
in the Bible suited to it. Are you faint and feeble because your way is
rough and you are weary? Here is the promise-"He giveth power to the
faint." When you read such a promise, take it back to the great
Promiser, and ask him to fulfil his own word. Are you seeking after
Christ, and thirsting for closer communion with him? This promise
shines like a star upon you-"Blessed are they that hunger and thirst
after righteousness, for they shall be filled." Take that promise to
the throne continually; do not plead anything else, but go to God over
and over again with this-"Lord, thou hast said it, do as thou hast
said." Are you distressed because of sin, and burdened with the heavy
load of your iniquities? Listen to these words-"I, even I, am he that
blotteth out thy transgressions, and will no more remember thy sins."
You have no merit of your own to plead why he should pardon you, but
plead his written engagements and he will perform them. Are you afraid
lest you should not be able to hold on to the end, lest, after having
thought yourself a child of God, you should prove a castaway? If that
is your state, take this word of grace to the throne and plead it: "The
mountains may depart, and the hills may be removed, but the covenant of
my love shall not depart from thee." If you have lost the sweet sense
of the Saviour's presence, and are seeking him with a sorrowful heart,
remember the promises: "Return unto me, and I will return unto you;"
"For a small moment have I forsaken thee, but with great mercies will I
gather thee." Banquet your faith upon God's own word, and whatever your
fears or wants, repair to the Bank of Faith with your Father's note of
hand, saying, "Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast
caused me to hope."

EVENING:

"All the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted."
-- Ezekiel 3:7

Are there no exceptions? No, not one. Even the favoured race are thus
described. Are the best so bad?-then what must the worst be? Come, my
heart, consider how far thou hast a share in this universal accusation,
and while considering, be ready to take shame unto thyself wherein thou
mayst have been guilty. The first charge is impudence, or hardness of
forehead, a want of holy shame, an unhallowed boldness in evil. Before
my conversion, I could sin and feel no compunction, hear of my guilt
and yet remain unhumbled, and even confess my iniquity and manifest no
inward humiliation on account of it. For a sinner to go to God's house
and pretend to pray to him and praise him argues a brazen-facedness of
the worst kind! Alas! since the day of my new birth I have doubted my
Lord to his face, murmured unblushingly in his presence, worshipped
before him in a slovenly manner, and sinned without bewailing myself
concerning it. If my forehead were not as an adamant, harder than
flint, I should have far more holy fear, and a far deeper contrition of
spirit. Woe is me, I am one of the impudent house of Israel. The second
charge is hardheartedness, and I must not venture to plead innocent
here. Once I had nothing but a heart of stone, and although through
grace I now have a new and fleshy heart, much of my former obduracy
remains. I am not affected by the death of Jesus as I ought to be;
neither am I moved by the ruin of my fellow men, the wickedness of the
times, the chastisement of my heavenly Father, and my own failures, as
I should be. O that my heart would melt at the recital of my Saviour's
sufferings and death. Would to God I were rid of this nether millstone
within me, this hateful body of death. Blessed be the name of the Lord,
the disease is not incurable, the Saviour's precious blood is the
universal solvent, and me, even me, it will effectually soften, till my
heart melts as wax before the fire.

My Utmost For His Highest : "What You Will Get"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

April 28, 2009

WHAT YOU WILL GET

Thy life will I give thee for a prey in all places
whither thou goest.

Jeremiah 14:5
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=jer+14:5&sr=1

This is the unshakable secret of the Lord to those who trust Him - "I
will give thee thy life." What more does a man want than his life? It
is the essential thing. "Thy life for a prey" means that wherever you
may go, even if it is into hell, you will come out with your life,
nothing can harm it. So many of us are caught up in the shows of
things, not in the way of property and possessions, but of blessings.
All these have to go; but there is something grander that never can
go - the life that is "hid with Christ in God."

Are you prepared to let God take you into union with Himself, and pay
no more attention to what you call the great things? Are you prepared
to abandon entirely and let go? The test of abandonment is in
refusing to say - "Well, what about this?" Beware of suppositions.
Immediately you allow - What about this? - it means you have not
abandoned, you do not really trust God. Immediately you do abandon,
you think no more about what God is going to do. Abandon means to
refuse yourself the luxury of asking any questions. If you abandon
entirely to God, He says at once, "Thy life will I give thee for a
prey." The reason people are tired of life is because God has not
given them anything, they have not got their life as a prey. The way
to get out of that state is to abandon to God. When you do get
through to abandonment to God, you will be the most surprised and
delighted creature on earth; God has got you absolutely and has given
you your life. If you are not there, it is either because of
disobedience or a refusal to be simple enough.

Praying with Paul : "Love Never Ends"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

LOVE NEVER ENDS

1 Corinthians 13:8-13
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+13:8-13

Dear Father, O God of love!

Let me possess love, for love never ends. I know that prophecy,
tongues, and knowledge will pass away, for they are all incomplete
and unfinished.

When the complete and perfect comes, everything incomplete and
unfinished will be gone.

Enable me to put away the things of childhood - the way I
reasoned, the way I spoke - and help me become mature. Now I see
through a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part,
but then I shall understand, even as I have been fully understood.

Faith, hope, and love are the truly enduring qualities, but you
proclaim love the greatest. Fill me with love!

In the name of the loving Jesus and by his authority I come to
you, asking these things according to his will. Amen.

Exclusive?

Jesus gave these twelve apostles some orders. Then he sent
them {to tell people about the kingdom}. Jesus said, "Don't
go to the non-Jewish people. And don't go into any town where
the Samaritans live. But go to the people of Israel (the
Jews). They are like sheep that are lost."

-- Matthew 10:5-6 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Our world is supercharged because of religious hatred and woeful acts
committed in the name of religious leaders. Any time a leader warns
about racial intermingling, s/he is quickly branded a prejudicial and
racial bigot. Jesus' racially exclusive plan was given to him by God.
He follows that will and executes that plan perfectly. That meant going
to the Jewish people first. They were his own people. He wanted to save
them. But he was also training his 12 apostles to be ready to go into
all the world. To be ready to reach the world, they needed first to
learn how to influence their own friends and family, the culture they
knew best. Then, when time was ripe and the disciples better trained,
Jesus would issue a new order to supersede the previous limited one.
That later one (Matthew 28:19) was not just for Israel, but for all
nations!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Righteous Father, help me as I try to help others share the Gospel of
Jesus with others. Please stir us all to do more than just study with
the lost, but to love them and share Jesus with them. In Jesus'
precious name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Psalm 85:6

April 28, 2009

VERSE:
Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in
you?
-- Psalm 85:6
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+85:6

THOUGHT:
God loves his children even when they are rebellious. However,
God showed Israel that their rebellion would drive his presence and
blessing from them. But with their genuine repentance and their
confession of sin, God joyously returned to their lives to bring
revival, renewal, and restoration.

PRAYER:
Father and Almighty LORD, please forgive me for my sins. I
confess them freely to you now .... (Be specific about sins you
want to confess.) Having you in my life, honoring your Kingdom with
my behavior and honoring your love with my graciousness to your
children are very important to me. Please revive me again and
empower me to love, good deeds, and holy living so that you will be
praised. In Jesus' name. Amen.
