Today's Verse : Acts 5:32

VERSE:
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit,
whom God has given to those who obey him.
-- Acts 5:32
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Acts+5:32

THOUGHT:
Of all the many gifts God gives, the gift of his presence in us
through his Holy Spirit is among the most precious. The Spirit's
presence makes us God's temple (1 Cor. 6:19). The Spirit intercedes
for us according to the will of God when we pray (Rom. 8:26-27).
The Spirit helps us overcome the pull of our flesh (Rom. 8:13-14).
The Spirit gives us strength in our inner being (Eph. 3:16). In
other words, the Spirit is at work to transform us to the character
of Christ. Let's thank God for his holy presence in us through the
Holy Spirit.

PRAYER:
Father, thank you so much for your Holy Spirit who even now is
interceding for me as I pray. Please strengthen me through your
Spirit as I seek to live a holy life dedicated to you. Dear Father,
it is my heart's desire for you to transform me by your Spirit to
be more like your Son in character and compassion. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: More Real Than Ever

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
More Real Than Ever
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
At once the Spirit sent Him out into the desert, and He was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended Him. Mark 1:12-13 NIV

Jesus had just been baptized. He had just received the praise of His Father, God: You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased. The man Jesus was on a spiritual high in His earthly life. Ever been there?

I have personally had times where God was more real to me than ever before. There have been seasons of my life when I knew God more intimately, sought after Him more passionately, and experienced Him more deeply than any other days. It is in these times I am strengthened for the days ahead.

The days ahead will always come. It has been my experience in the Christian life that times of great spiritual passion are soon followed by periods of spiritual doubt and temptation. After the mountain top experience, the valley is almost sure to follow.
< br />It was true in the life of Jesus. Right after His baptism, a spiritual high, He was immediately sent into the wilderness. If God wants to mold us into the image of His Son (and He does), then He will surely allow the same to happen to us.

Look forward to the mountain tops, but if you are growing in Christ, also get ready for the valleys.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Step into the Water, by Russ Lawson

There is an old gospel hymn, sung by the Cathedrals, that goes like
this: "Step into the water, wade out a little bit deeper. Wet your feet
in the water of his love." This is a very interesting song if you think
about it in the context of Scripture. I'm not sure where the writer of
the hymn received his inspiration, but the memory of the song came to
me as I was reading from the book of Joshua (Joshua 3:1-17) this past
week.

After forty years of wandering through the wilderness in pursuit of
God's promise for a better life, God's people finally are going to get
to cross into the Promised Land. God gives Joshua directions explaining
what was going to happen. They were to cross the Jordan river during
its flood stage and enter the land of Canaan.

Now you might think this is not a whole lot different from when the
Israelites passed through the Red Sea, but it is. When Moses parted the
Red Sea, the winds blew all night and there was a path through the sea.
In this case, God's leaders had to physically step into the water
before the water stopped flowing. Notice what the scripture says:

So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests
carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. Now the Jordan
is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests
who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the
water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up
in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the
vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of
the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off. So the people
crossed over opposite Jericho. The priests who carried the ark of
the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of
the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had
completed the crossing on dry ground (Joshua 3:14-17 NIV).

This time God called upon them to literally make a "step of faith"
before he would deliver them. He wanted them to display their trust.
When the soles of the sandals on the feet of the priest touched the
water, the water stopped flowing and backed up for approximately
seventeen miles upstream. Notice also that the river bed was instantly
dry. God worked, but he demanded that the people take a step of faith
before they experienced this mighty work in their lives.

I wonder how many times God doesn't answer our prayers or doesn't cause
or allow something to happen in our lives because he is simply waiting
for us to take the first step of faith?

What is it that you dream of doing or being for God?

What great plan do you have for God or for your life?

What are you waiting for?

Are you waiting for the right time to step out, for the perfect
conditions to act?

God's great writer and preacher of wisdom warned, "He that observeth
the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not
reap" (Ecclesiastes 11:4 KJV). I love the way this message is
translated in a newer translation: "If you wait for perfect conditions,
you will never get anything done" (NLT).

What are you waiting for?

What is holding you back?

Isn't it time to "Step into the water, wade out a little bit deeper.
Wet your feet in the water of his love."

Morning & Evening -- John 3:7 and Proverbs 18:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 6, 2009

MORNING:

"Ye must be born again."
-- John 3:7

Regeneration is a subject which lies at the very basis of salvation,
and we should be very diligent to take heed that we really are "born
again," for there are many who fancy they are, who are not. Be assured
that the name of a Christian is not the nature of a Christian; and that
being born in a Christian land, and being recognized as professing the
Christian religion is of no avail whatever, unless there be something
more added to it-the being "born again," is a matter so mysterious,
that human words cannot describe it. "The wind bloweth where it
listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence
it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the
Spirit." Nevertheless, it is a change which is known and felt: known by
works of holiness, and felt by a gracious experience. This great work
is supernatural. It is not an operation which a man performs for
himself: a new principle is infused, which works in the heart, renews
the soul, and affects the entire man. It is not a change of my name,
but a renewal of my nature, so that I am not the man I used to be, but
a new man in Christ Jesus. To wash and dress a corpse is a far
different thing from making it alive: man can do the one, God alone can
do the other. If you have then, been "born again," your acknowledgment
will be, "O Lord Jesus, the everlasting Father, thou art my spiritual
Parent; unless thy Spirit had breathed into me the breath of a new,
holy, and spiritual life, I had been to this day 'dead in trespasses
and sins.' My heavenly life is wholly derived from thee, to thee I
ascribe it. 'My life is hid with Christ in God.' It is no longer I who
live, but Christ who liveth in me." May the Lord enable us to be well
assured on this vital point, for to be unregenerate is to be unsaved,
unpardoned, without God, and without hope.

EVENING:

"Before destruction the heart of man is haughty."
-- Proverbs 18:12

It is an old and common saying, that "coming events cast their shadows
before them;" the wise man teaches us that a haughty heart is the
prophetic prelude of evil. Pride is as safely the sign of destruction
as the change of mercury in the weather-glass is the sign of rain; and
far more infallibly so than that. When men have ridden the high horse,
destruction has always overtaken them. Let David's aching heart show
that there is an eclipse of a man's glory when he dotes upon his own
greatness. 2 Sam. 24:10. See Nebuchadnezzar, the mighty builder of
Babylon, creeping on the earth, devouring grass like oxen, until his
nails had grown like bird's claws, and his hair like eagle's feathers.
Dan. 4:33. Pride made the boaster a beast, as once before it made an
angel a devil. God hates high looks, and never fails to bring them
down. All the arrows of God are aimed at proud hearts. O Christian, is
thine heart haughty this evening? For pride can get into the
Christian's heart as well as into the sinner's; it can delude him into
dreaming that he is "rich and increased in goods, and hath need of
nothing." Art thou glorying in thy graces or thy talents? Art thou
proud of thyself, that thou hast had holy frames and sweet experiences?
Mark thee, reader, there is a destruction coming to thee also. Thy
flaunting poppies of self-conceit will be pulled up by the roots, thy
mushroom graces will wither in the burning heat, and thy
self-sufficiency shall become as straw for the dunghill. If we forget
to live at the foot of the cross in deepest lowliness of spirit, God
will not forget to make us smart under his rod. A destruction will come
to thee, O unduly exalted believer, the destruction of thy joys and of
thy comforts, though there can be no destruction of thy soul.
Wherefore, "He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Amid A Crowd Of Paltry Things"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 6, 2009

AMID A CROWD OF PALTRY THINGS

... in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in
distresses.

2 Corinthians 6:4
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2co+6:4&sr=1

It takes Almighty grace to take the next step when there is no vision
and no spectator - the next step in devotion, the next step in your
study, in your reading, in your kitchen; the next step in your duty,
when there is no vision from God, no enthusiasm and no spectator. It
takes far more of the grace of God, far more conscious drawing upon
God to take that step, than it does to preach the Gospel.

Every Christian has to partake of what was the essence of the
Incarnation, he must bring the thing down into flesh and blood
actualities and work it out through the finger tips. We flag when
there is no vision, no uplift, but just the common round, the trivial
task. The thing that tells in the long run for God and for men is the
steady persevering work in the unseen, and the only way to keep the
life uncrushed is to live looking to God. Ask God to keep the eyes of
your spirit open to the Risen Christ, and it will be impossible for
drudgery to damp you. Continually get away from pettiness and
paltriness of mind and thought out into the thirteenth chapter of St.
John's Gospel.

Praying with Paul : "Generosity toward Israel"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

GENEROSITY TOWARD ISRAEL

Romans 15:25-29
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:25-29

Dear Father, God of Israel,

Give us generous hearts toward the Jewish people throughout the
world. "They are Israelites, and to them belong the sonship, the
glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, the
promises, and the patriarchs; and of their race, according to the
flesh, is the Christ."

We know that "as regards the gospel, they are enemies of God" for
our sake, but "as regards election, they are beloved for the sake
of their forefathers." According to your word we who are not Jews
are in debt to them. Since we have come to share in their spiritual
blessings, put it into our hearts to share sympathy and our
material blessings with them.

Help all of us come to share in the fullness of the blessing of
Christ. In the name of Jesus we ask, praying with all our hearts
that Israel according to the flesh will come to faith in your Son.
Amen.

WJD! -- Perfect! -- Matthew 5:46-48

Perfect!

"If you love only the people that love you, then you will get
no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are
nice only to your friends, then you are no better than other
people. Even the people without God are nice to their
friends. So you must be perfect, the same as your Father in
heaven is perfect."

-- Matthew 5:46-48 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
I am called to be perfect! Especially perfect in my relationship with
others. My goal is the character and compassion of God. WOW! What a
challenging call. But the transformational nature of Jesus' love and
his disciples' Kingdom Family lifestyle demand that we surpass
conventional standards of righteousness and pursue the heart and
character of God himself. Anybody can be nice to someone who is nice to
him or her. But what about those folks God places in our lives as that
grain of sand out of which we are to fashion our pearl? You know, those
irritating, dependent, demanding, and critical people that God uses to
fashion us into more Christ-like children or to confront us with our
own selfishness. In the Kingdom Family, we're to rise above the
mediocre standards of the masses and find the redemptive standard set
by our Father!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Majestic, righteous, and holy God, I bow in worship and adoration at
your kindness, mercy, and grace demonstrated to me in so many different
ways. Work your righteous and character-altering work in me, and as I
keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, please make my character more reflective
of yours. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
