Today's Verse : Psalm 119:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 6, 2009

VERSE:
Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to
the law of the LORD.
-- Psalm 119:1
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+119:1

THOUGHT:
As Christians, we hear this passage a little differently than
those who lived under the Old Testament Law. We recognize that our
blamelessness comes as a gift of Jesus' sacrificial death on the
Cross. We know we are not justified by keeping the Law, but we are
doing our absolute best to walk in the way of the Lord out of
thanks for God's glorious grace. There is great blessing in doing
the will of God. That blessing is not just in the future, but began
when we first became Christians.

PRAYER:
Father, thank you for blessing me so graciously. As I seek to
live according to your will, I experience the blessings of your
presence and grace in my life. Please bless me with wisdom to
better know your will and the courage to live it. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Kept The Faith

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Kept The Faith
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Jesus said: I know where you live....where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. Revelation 2:13 NIV

Aren't you glad you can't hide from Christ? I mean, you didn't think you could escape Him, did you?

Jesus tells the church at Pergamum, He knows exactly where you and I live. He knows that we live in a land full of sin and strife. He knows we are surrounded by adulterers, liars, and thieves. He knows we struggle with lust and temptation. He knows that we surrounded by evil forces which attempt to steal our peace and joy.

Jesus knows where we live. And, yet, we have remained true to His name! In spite of our heartaches and pain, in spite of the difficulties in maintaining our faith, in spite of the pressures of life, you and I have remained true to His name.

We have kept the faith. We have not denied who He is. Oh, sure, there are days when we wonder from where our strength will come, but when the end story is w ritten, Christ will see that we have persevered. When the going was tough, we clung to the Rock! When life's problems overwhelmed us, we waited on our Savior to see us through.

Thank you, Jesus, that you know where we live, and that by your strength, and your strength alone, we can be true to your name. And, what a wonderful name it is too!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Together in His Grace, by Phil Ware

"... because your hearts were hard" (Matthew 19:8).

Jesus' words are blunt. They carry with them the sting of a painful
truth. Our lives, especially our lives with our families, are often a
mess because of the hardness of our hearts. The pain we inflict on each
other and the wounds that we leave behind are the bitter testimony that
Jesus' words are, all too often, agonizingly true.

Most of us want something better. Most of us want to be better. Sure,
some cling to their total innocence and blame their circumstances, the
lack of understanding by others, the maliciousness of their
spouse/child/parent, or some cruel fate. In reality, however, most of
us acknowledge that we are at least part of the problem. We recognize
that many of our own messes happened because of moments when our hearts
have been hard.

At Heartlight.org, we are committed to bring resources to you to help
you live for Jesus in our world today. It's a tough time in the world.
Life together is not easy. Stresses are high and relationships are
strained. So we believe there is a need for some straightforward
discussion about how we are to live together in our families in ways
that honor God.

On most Thursdays, we will turn to two sources for input on these
matters, Joe Beam and Rick Reynolds. Both of these counselors have
worked with hundreds of couples as they have dealt with marriage issues
many would never tackle. Our prayer is that this will be a blessing to
you and that God is honored.

We believe that it is only fair that you know the convictions that we
operate from at Heartlight.org. So here are some of the foundational
commitments that we have and that we will expect of anything shared
through us.

Men and women are both made in the image of God and are to be cherished
because there is something of the Creator's glory in each person (Genesis
1:26-27).

God made men and women differently and as we learn to submit to each
other to honor Christ (Ephesians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11) and as we
learn to bless each other sexually in marriage (1 Corinthians 7:1-5),
we are fulfilling God's good and holy desire for us (Genesis 1:27-31).

Our hearts are sometimes hard.

God made marriage as a life covenant (Matthew 19:1-9). God hates for
families to blow up in divorce (Malachi 2:13-16). Seeking to be
faithful to God, we want to do all we can to help husbands and wives
honor their marriage covenant with each other and God. We pray that
this marriage relationship furnishes the foundation of a strong family
and a powerful testimony to the world.

We believe that each child, from the moment of conception, is precious
and to be valued as a gift from God and that each one has been created
by God with a plan and purpose for his or her life (Genesis 4:1; Psalm
139:13-16). Each child is to be lovingly nurtured and trained in the
ways of God and taught to obey his or her parents and seek after God (Ephesians
6:1-3).

Our responsibility as Jesus' community is to humbly help each other
stay on the path of God (Galatians 6:1-3; James 5:19-20) and encourage
each other to faithfulness (Hebrews 3:12-14). To simply do nothing (or
worse, to gossip) while marriages and families blow up is to share in
the sin and not love the broken (Matthew 18:10-14; James 4:17).

Yes, our hearts are sometimes hard. Yet as we look to Jesus, we are
promised that the Holy Spirit's power will be at work transforming us (2
Corinthians 3:18). God is at work in us to make us more than our
mistakes (Philippians 2:12-13) and his grace redeems us to be used for
his creative purposes (Ephesians 2:8-10).

So our hope is that you will be blessed from week-to-week on Thursdays
as we focus on living life "together in his grace," making our
marriages and families stronger and our lives more full of joy. Those
who share their insight here have witnessed the transforming power of
God in the lives of broken families and seen those families -- spouses,
parents, children -- healed and made strong. Please pray for those who
share their insight and their understanding of God's will for couples
and families. Let's make a commitment to help each other honor God in
our marriages and our families.

Morning & Evening -- 1 Thessalonians 5:6 and Psalms 35:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 5, 2009

MORNING:

"Let us not sleep, as do others."
-- 1 Thessalonians 5:6

There are many ways of promoting Christian wakefulness. Among the rest,
let me strongly advise Christians to converse together concerning the
ways of the Lord. Christian and Hopeful, as they journeyed towards the
Celestial City, said to themselves, "To prevent drowsiness in this
place, let us fall into good discourse." Christian enquired, "Brother,
where shall we begin?" And Hopeful answered, "Where God began with us."
Then Christian sang this song-

"When saints do sleepy grow, let them come hither,
And hear how these two pilgrims talk together;
Yea, let them learn of them, in any wise,
Thus to keep open their drowsy slumb'ring eyes.
Saints' fellowship, if it be managed well,
Keeps them awake, and that in spite of hell."

Christians who isolate themselves and walk alone, are very liable to
grow drowsy. Hold Christian company, and you will be kept wakeful by
it, and refreshed and encouraged to make quicker progress in the road
to heaven. But as you thus take "sweet counsel" with others in the ways
of God, take care that the theme of your converse is the Lord Jesus.
Let the eye of faith be constantly looking unto him; let your heart be
full of him; let your lips speak of his worth. Friend, live near to the
cross, and thou wilt not sleep. Labour to impress thyself with a deep
sense of the value of the place to which thou art going. If thou
rememberest that thou art going to heaven, thou wilt not sleep on the
road. If thou thinkest that hell is behind thee, and the devil pursuing
thee, thou wilt not loiter. Would the manslayer sleep with the avenger
of blood behind him, and the city of refuge before him? Christian, wilt
thou sleep whilst the pearly gates are open-the songs of angels waiting
for thee to join them-a crown of gold ready for thy brow? Ah! no; in
holy fellowship continue to watch and pray that ye enter not into
temptation.

EVENING:

"Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation."
-- Psalms 35:3

What does this sweet prayer teach me? It shall be my evening's
petition; but first let it yield me an instructive meditation. The text
informs me first of all that David had his doubts; for why should he
pray, "Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation," if he were not sometimes
exercised with doubts and fears? Let me, then, be of good cheer, for I
am not the only saint who has to complain of weakness of faith. If
David doubted, I need not conclude that I am no Christian because I
have doubts. The text reminds me that David was not content while he
had doubts and fears, but he repaired at once to the mercy-seat to pray
for assurance; for he valued it as much fine gold. I too must labour
after an abiding sense of my acceptance in the Beloved, and must have
no joy when his love is not shed abroad in my soul. When my Bridegroom
is gone from me, my soul must and will fast. I learn also that David
knew where to obtain full assurance. He went to his God in prayer,
crying, "Say unto my soul I am thy salvation." I must be much alone
with God if I would have a clear sense of Jesus' love. Let my prayers
cease, and my eye of faith will grow dim. Much in prayer, much in
heaven; slow in prayer, slow in progress. I notice that David would not
be satisfied unless his assurance had a divine source. "Say unto my
soul." Lord, do thou say it! Nothing short of a divine testimony in the
soul will ever content the true Christian. Moreover, David could not
rest unless his assurance had a vivid personality about it. "Say unto
my soul, I am thy salvation." Lord, if thou shouldst say this to all
the saints, it were nothing, unless thou shouldst say it to me. Lord, I
have sinned; I deserve not thy smile; I scarcely dare to ask it; but
oh! say to my soul, even to my soul, "I am thy salvation." Let me have
a present, personal, infallible, indisputable sense that I am thine,
and that thou art mine.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Is He Really Lord?"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 5, 2009

IS HE REALLY LORD?

... so that I might finish my course with joy, and the
ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus.

Acts 20:24
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+20:24&sr=1

Joy means the perfect fulfilment of that for which I was created and
regenerated, not the successful doing of a thing. The joy Our Lord
had lay in doing what the Father sent Him to do, and He says - "As My
Father hath sent Me, even so am I sending you." Have I received a
ministry from the Lord? If so, I have to be loyal to it, to count my
life precious only for the fulfilling of that ministry. Think of the
satisfaction it will be to hear Jesus say - "Well done, good and
faithful servant"; to know that you have done what He sent you to do.
We have all to find our niche in life, and spiritually we find it
when we receive our ministry from the Lord. In order to do this we
must have companied with Jesus; we must know Him as more than a
personal Saviour. "I will show him how great things he must suffer
for My sake."

"Lovest thou Me?" Then - "Feed My sheep." There is no choice of
service, only absolute loyalty to Our Lord's commission; loyalty to
what you discern when you are in closest contact with God. If you
have received a ministry from the Lord Jesus, you will know that the
need is never the call: the need is the opportunity. The call is
loyalty to the ministry you received when you were in real touch with
Him. This does not imply that there is a campaign of service marked
out for you, but it does mean that you will have to ignore the
demands for service along other lines.

Praying with Paul : "A Channel for Your Word"

A CHANNEL FOR YOUR WORD

Romans 15:14-21
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+15:14-21

Dear Father,

I pray that I may be full of goodness, filled with all knowledge,
and able to instruct others who want to know about your salvation.

Give me a share in the priestly service of your Good News to the
world. May I as a believer make (and be!) an acceptable offering,
sanctified by your Holy Spirit.

Help me to make it my ambition to speak of Jesus Christ everywhere
to everyone. Let me love your word so much that I will either go or
help others go to places where it has not yet been proclaimed.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

WJD! -- Finding Our Target -- Matthew 5:43-45

Finding Our Target

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and
hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for
those people that do bad things to you. If you do this, then
you will be true sons of your Father in heaven. Your Father
lets the sun rise for the good people and the bad people.
Your Father sends rain to people that do good and to people
that do wrong."

-- Matthew 5:43-45 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
This is a powerful conclusion to the things Jesus has been teaching us.
In the Kingdom Family of God, the "greater righteousness" has as its
visible sign a radically different, redemptively loving commitment for
those around us. As Jesus reminded us in the Beatitudes, and again
challenges us here, our goal is to love our neighbor. When our desire
is to act redemptively, our neighbor becomes anyone who needs the love
of the Father. The Father -- God himself -- is to be our inspiration,
goal, and target in this pursuit. Because God is our Father, his traits
should be our traits. He loved the world and sent his Son knowing that
many would reject him. Yet that love is transformational:
transformational for our world, our friendships, our families, and our
attitude toward our enemies.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty, yet compassionate Father, give me greater patience and
confidence as I try to love those who are not very lovable and try to
return grace to those who have enmity for me. When I do these things, I
know that I am only allowing your character to come through in my life.
In my quest to be like you, I do not desire your power, O Lord, for you
alone are God. But I do earnestly want to take on your holy and
gracious character. Work your will in my heart through your Holy
Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen.
