Today's Verse : Deuteronomy 1:29-30

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

January 29, 2008

VERSE:
Then I said to you, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of
them. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for
you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes."
-- Deuteronomy 1:29-30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Deuteronomy+1:29-30

THOUGHT:
Moses began his farewell message to Israel with a reminder of
their parents' refusal to obey God's word to enter the Promised
Land. With his death, these Israelites will have to follow a leader
other than Moses for the first time in their lives. Moses wants
them to know that their real Leader hasn't changed. God had done
mighty things for them in Moses' day. Now God will do mighty things
in their day through Joshua. They will have more than second hand
deliverance stories to tell their grandchildren. They will be
eyewitnesses of God's power and faithfulness. But they would have
to obey this same command their parents ignored and own a faith
that their ancestors did not have!

PRAYER:
Almighty and Sovereign LORD, all glory and honor goes to you for
your mighty acts to redeem, to save, to fulfill, and to bless your
people throughout the ages. I ask, dear LORD, please bless your
people today with faith to expect your power, hearts to obey your
Word, and eyes to see that your great work is not yet done. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Offended One

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Offended One
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
It is harder to win back the friendship of an offended brother than to capture a fortified city. Proverbs 18:19 TLB

This series will help us with the times we offend people. Hopefully you dont need this. If not, you can catch us next week for another series. Chances are, however, that your life is much like mine and you find yourself with broken or damaged relationships because you have offended someone; whether intentional or not. Recognizing that winning back a friendship once someone is offended is hard to do what should we do as believers to make that happen?

Some people more than others, but really all of us, seem at times to have foot in mouth disease. We say or do things that are offensive sometimes intentionally and other times completely unintentional. I think the first step in being non-offensive is to avoid, wherever possible, the disease. We should strive not to be offensive. That sounds sensible, maybe even easy to do, but if you are older than 12 then you probably know its not a simple thing to avoid offending someone. Still, I find that when I have a specific goal in mind Im more likely to carry it through. So, make it a goal to NOT be offensive. When that is your mindset going into a conversation or relationship you will find yourself watching the words you say and the things you do more carefully.

If thats not clear enough for you, then follow the advice of Thumper from the classic movie Bambi. Thumper says, If you cant say something good, dont say nuttin at all.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

He's Our Son, by Phil Ware

On Friday afternoon, after a long day of work, Donna and I along with
our daughter Megan, got on a loud, old, prop airplane and flew to
Houston. We then hopped a bus to switch terminals and ran across that
terminal, down two long hallways, to barely catch our connecting flight
to Lexington, Kentucky. We arrived late in the evening and then waited
in frigid temperatures for the shuttle to take us to a hotel with a
sorry room. It was past midnight before we got settled in to try to
sleep in the blazing hot room in a hotel that was being remodeled (to
our surprise) and didn't have many of the features it was advertised to
offer. At ten the next morning, our daughter-in-law picked us up and
whisked us to a church building to move tables and decorate for Zach's
surprise party.

How much did this cost? Irrelevant!

How much sleep did we lose? Irrelevant!

How much work did we leave behind that needed to be done? Irrelevant!

The look on our son's face Saturday afternoon when he walked into his
surprise party? Priceless! He's our son; we would do anything we could
to let him know that he is priceless to us.

You see, he had worked to support his wife through Physical Therapy
school. He was blessed with a good computer programming job, and so he
deferred getting his Master's Degree in Computer Software Design so
Mandy could finish. He has been working on completing his class work
and then his project a little at a time while working. It's taken
awhile, but on Wednesday, his project defense was successful. Along the
way, he's done very well in his job and won the Kentucky Academy of
Science programming award for his project competing against other
graduate university students as well as programmers for high tech firms
in the state. Yes, we are proud of him, love him, and want Zach to know
it.

So you see, we were willing to do whatever it took to be there to say,
"You are our son, we love you, and we are pleased with who you are and
what you have done!" His accomplishments, he himself, and his precious
wife Mandy who planned the secret party on her birthday are all
priceless to us. Sometimes the cost -- in time, effort, hassle, or
money -- of things is not an issue. Sometimes the person you love is
too priceless to not let them know.

While our trip has been a bit of brief hassle and a bit of expense,
there was another trip that was a messy, dirty, hard, ugly, and costly
burden. The Great and Glorious One, God Almighty chose to travel into
the womb of a virgin peasant girl from Nazareth to live as one of us as
Jesus of Nazareth. After having done nothing but good -- showing
kindness, teaching the truth, and lifting people's burdens -- jealous
religious leaders, with the help of their political co-conspirators,
put Jesus to death on a cross. They sought to humiliate and abuse him
so his followers would be forced to give up their loyalty to him.

We cannot fathom the cost of this gift.

We cannot fathom the cost of this gift. We can, however, be touched by
it and receive it. For in this gift, the Glorious God, the Almighty,
has told us one thing beyond all others: to him, the LORD of heaven and
earth, the Yahweh and the great Deliverer, we are ... PRICELESS. He
would rather leave the security of heaven's glories and face the
humiliation of human rejection than to have heaven without us.

So today, as you begin this week, remember that no price was too high
for your Father to pay. No trip was too far for your Father to take. No
rebellion was too far for your Father not to search until he found you.
For you are to him -- priceless.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only
Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love:
not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:9-10 TNIV)

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 1:28 and Luke 2:20

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 28, 2008

MORNING:

"Perfect in Christ Jesus."
-- Colossians 1:28

Do you not feel in your own soul that perfection is not in you? Does
not every day teach you that? Every tear which trickles from your eye,
weeps "imperfection"; every harsh word which proceeds from your lip,
mutters "imperfection." You have too frequently had a view of your own
heart to dream for a moment of any perfection in yourself. But amidst
this sad consciousness of imperfection, here is comfort for you-you are
"perfect in Christ Jesus." In God's sight, you are "complete in him;"
even now you are "accepted in the Beloved." But there is a second
perfection, yet to be realized, which is sure to all the seed. Is it
not delightful to look forward to the time when every stain of sin
shall be removed from the believer, and he shall be presented faultless
before the throne, without spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing? The
Church of Christ then will be so pure, that not even the eye of
Omniscience will see a spot or blemish in her; so holy and so glorious,
that Hart did not go beyond the truth when he said-

"With my Saviour's garments on,
Holy as the Holy One."

Then shall we know, and taste, and feel the happiness of this vast but
short sentence, "Complete in Christ." Not till then shall we fully
comprehend the heights and depths of the salvation of Jesus. Doth not
thy heart leap for joy at the thought of it? Black as thou art, thou
shalt be white one day; filthy as thou art, thou shalt be clean. Oh, it
is a marvellous salvation this! Christ takes a worm and transforms it
into an angel; Christ takes a black and deformed thing and makes it
clean and matchless in his glory, peerless in his beauty, and fit to be
the companion of seraphs. O my soul, stand and admire this blessed
truth of perfection in Christ.

EVENING:

"And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for
all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told
unto them."
-- Luke 2:20

What was the subject of their praise? They praised God for what they
had heard-for the good tidings of great joy that a Saviour was born
unto them. Let us copy them; let us also raise a song of thanksgiving
that we have heard of Jesus and his salvation. They also praised God
for what they had seen. There is the sweetest music-what we have
experienced, what we have felt within, what we have made our own-"the
things which we have made touching the King." It is not enough to hear
about Jesus: mere hearing may tune the harp, but the fingers of living
faith must create the music. If you have seen Jesus with the God-giving
sight of faith, suffer no cobwebs to linger among the harp strings, but
loud to the praise of sovereign grace, awake your psaltery and harp.
One point for which they praised God was the agreement between what
they had heard and what they had seen. Observe the last sentence-"As it
was told unto them." Have you not found the gospel to be in yourselves
just what the Bible said it would be? Jesus said he would give you
rest-have you not enjoyed the sweetest peace in him? He said you should
have joy, and comfort, and life through believing in him-have you not
received all these? Are not his ways ways of pleasantness, and his
paths paths of peace? Surely you can say with the queen of Sheba, "The
half has not been told me." I have found Christ more sweet than his
servants ever said he was. I looked upon his likeness as they painted
it, but it was a mere daub compared with himself; for the King in his
beauty outshines all imaginable loveliness. Surely what we have "seen"
keeps pace with, nay, far exceeds, what we have "heard." Let us, then,
glorify and praise God for a Saviour so precious, and so satisfying.

My Utmost For His Highest : "But It Is Hardly Credible That One Could So Persecute Jesus!"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 28, 2008

BUT IT IS HARDLY CREDIBLE THAT ONE COULD SO PERSECUTE JESUS!

Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?

Acts 26:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=ac+26:14&sr=1

Am I set on my own way for God? We are never free from this snare
until we are brought into the experience of the baptism of the Holy
Ghost and fire. Obstinacy and self-will will always stab Jesus
Christ. It may hurt no one else, but it wounds His Spirit. Whenever
we are obstinate and self-willed and set upon our own ambitions, we
are hurting Jesus. Every time we stand on our rights and insist that
this is what we intend to do, we are persecuting Jesus. Whenever we
stand on our dignity we systematically vex and grieve His Spirit; and
when the knowledge comes home that it is Jesus Whom we have been
persecuting all the time, it is the most crushing revelation there
could be.

Is the word of God tremendously keen to me as I hand it on to you, or
does my life give the lie to the things I profess to teach? I may
teach sanctification and yet exhibit the spirit of Satan, the spirit
that persecutes Jesus Christ. The Spirit of Jesus is conscious of one
thing only - a perfect oneness with the Father, and He says, "Learn
of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart." All I do ought to be
founded on a perfect oneness with Him, not on a self-willed
determination to be godly. This will mean that I can be easily put
upon, easily over-reached, easily ignored; but if I submit to it for
His sake, I prevent Jesus Christ being persecuted.

Praying with Paul : "Inner Conflict"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

INNER CONFLICT

Romans 7:1-20

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+7:1-20

Dear Father,

I have died to the world (and to the idea that I can be justified
by keeping a set of rules) through the body of Christ that I might
belong to Christ.

He was raised from the dead that I might belong to him and bear
fruit in his name. Help me to bear fruit for you in the way I live.
Let me serve you in the new life of the Spirit.

Give me strength to resist suggestions to do evil. For even though
I want to do good, opportunities to do evil lie close at hand.
Don't let my inner rebellion convince me to do the opposite of what
you command.

In the name of Jesus resolve the conflicts of my life and give me
a clear course to walk as I follow him. Amen.

WJD! -- Do What You Are Commanded -- Mark 1:43-44

Do What You Are Commanded

Jesus told the man to go. But Jesus warned him strongly.
Jesus said, "Don't tell any person about what I did for you.
But go and show yourself to the priest. And offer a gift to
God because you have been healed. Offer the gift that Moses
commanded. This will show people that you are healed."

-- Mark 1:43-44 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
"Do what the law requires!" Two principles are at work here. First, the
man cleansed of his leprosy needs to do what is required to regain the
right to enter into daily public life. Second, his going to the priests
would validate Jesus' authority over disease. Jesus is no charlatan. He
is the comforting, validating, and affirming Lord and Savior we all
need.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God and precious Lord Jesus, help me see what I need to do to show
those around me that you are not only my Lord, but that you want me to
do what is right, good, honest, fair, and just. To you, O God, and to
you, the triumphant Son, I offer you my praise and thanks forever and
ever. Amen.
