=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Mighty Power, by Kay Talley

As the massive Boeing 777 jet accelerated down the runway, then lifted
into the air, I was again in awe at the magnificent power that would
lift such immense weight to a cruising altitude of more than 43,000
feet. As the plane entered an area of turbulence and the giant machine
was tossed about as though it weighed nothing, I was reminded of the
tremendous, awe-inspiring force of the One who is the source of all
power.

I witness His power in so many areas and ways as I journey through this
world: in the roaring of mighty waterfalls, the glories of a sunrise,
the churning of the seas, the birth of my babies. I witness the
ultimate power of God the Father in my own life -- in my own personal
experience as I come to know Him as the One who cares for and loves me
individually and unconditionally. He knows and cares about every
difficulty I face and each heartbreak I suffer. It is difficult to
understand how such a powerful God, who rules the universe, would care
for me on a personal basis. I must come to understand that God does not
allow His work of keeping all things in the universe in its proper
place to divert His attention from me, nor does it interfere with His
working in my individual life.

His marvelous abundant power is majestically demonstrated in the grace
of Jesus Christ our Lord. Only the power of God can remove the
sinfulness of my heart and cleanse me through the blood that was poured
forth at Calvary. Through this cleansing I experience new life and
hope.

Only the power of God can remove the sinfulness of my heart

The darkest hours of those who had walked so closely with Jesus during
His ministry were those days when the lifeless body of the One Who had
claimed to be the Savior lay silent in a tomb. Had their belief been in
vain? Even after receiving the reports of the Master's resurrection,
they remained skeptical. It was not until Jesus appeared to them and
they witnessed His resurrection did they believe. Being witness to the
power of God to raise the dead convinced the disciples of that power
and their lives would never be the same.

Our lives, like those of long ago, will never be the same as we confess
before God that we are sinners and need the power of His cleansing
through the blood of the spotless sacrifice. Through our obedience to
Him and submission to His will, we will experience the power of God,
and will long to testify that indeed He is mighty to save.

Have you experienced this mighty power in your life? Do you know the
peace that comes in being cleansed by this power? To know more about
experiencing the power of God, visit www.hopeforlife.org.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 104:16 and Genesis 9:15

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

MORNING:

"The cedars of Lebanon which he hath planted."
-- Psalms 104:16

Lebanon's cedars are emblematic of the Christian, in that they owe
their planting entirely to the Lord. This is quite true of every child
of God. He is not man-planted, nor self-planted, but God-planted. The
mysterious hand of the divine Spirit dropped the living seed into a
heart which he had himself prepared for its reception. Every true heir
of heaven owns the great Husbandman as his planter. Moreover, the
cedars of Lebanon are not dependent upon man for their watering; they
stand on the lofty rock, unmoistened by human irrigation; and yet our
heavenly Father supplieth them. Thus it is with the Christian who has
learned to live by faith. He is independent of man, even in temporal
things; for his continued maintenance he looks to the Lord his God, and
to him alone. The dew of heaven is his portion, and the God of heaven
is his fountain. Again, the cedars of Lebanon are not protected by any
mortal power. They owe nothing to man for their preservation from
stormy wind and tempest. They are God's trees, kept and preserved by
him, and by him alone. It is precisely the same with the Christian. He
is not a hot-house plant, sheltered from temptation; he stands in the
most exposed position; he has no shelter, no protection, except this,
that the broad wings of the eternal God always cover the cedars which
he himself has planted. Like cedars, believers are full of sap, having
vitality enough to be ever green, even amid winter's snows. Lastly, the
flourishing and majestic condition of the cedar is to the praise of God
only. The Lord, even the Lord alone hath been everything unto the
cedars, and, therefore David very sweetly puts it in one of the psalms,
"Praise ye the Lord, fruitful trees and all cedars." In the believer
there is nothing that can magnify man; he is planted, nourished, and
protected by the Lord's own hand, and to him let all the glory be
ascribed.

EVENING:

"And I will remember my covenant."
-- Genesis 9:15

Mark the form of the promise. God does not say, "And when ye shall look
upon the bow, and ye shall remember my covenant, then I will not
destroy the earth," but it is gloriously put, not upon our memory,
which is fickle and frail, but upon God's memory, which is infinite and
immutable. "The bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it,
that I may remember the everlasting covenant." Oh! it is not my
remembering God, it is God's remembering me which is the ground of my
safety; it is not my laying hold of his covenant, but his covenant's
laying hold on me. Glory be to God! the whole of the bulwarks of
salvation are secured by divine power, and even the minor towers, which
we may imagine might have been left to man, are guarded by almighty
strength. Even the remembrance of the covenant is not left to our
memories, for we might forget, but our Lord cannot forget the saints
whom he has graven on the palms of his hands. It is with us as with
Israel in Egypt; the blood was upon the lintel and the two side-posts,
but the Lord did not say, "When you see the blood I will pass over
you," but "When I see the blood I will pass over you." My looking to
Jesus brings me joy and peace, but it is God's looking to Jesus which
secures my salvation and that of all his elect, since it is impossible
for our God to look at Christ, our bleeding Surety, and then to be
angry with us for sins already punished in him. No, it is not left with
us even to be saved by remembering the covenant. There is no
linsey-wolsey here-not a single thread of the creature mars the fabric.
It is not of man, neither by man, but of the Lord alone. We should
remember the covenant, and we shall do it, through divine grace; but
the hinge of our safety does not hang there-it is God's remembering us,
not our remembering him; and hence the covenant is an everlasting
covenant.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Those Tears 3

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Those Tears 3
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears. Psalms 6:6

My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? Psalms 42:3

Yesterday I encouraged you to shed some tears every now and then; to pour them out before God. I realize that encouragement was mostly for those of us tough guys who seldom see a tear. Some of you dont need any encouragement, do you?

Some people who read this are like the Psalmist. You go to bed and swim in tears. You cant sleep so you go to the couch and then you flood it with tears. You cant eat because you are so upset. Is your life full of tears right now?

I understand. Not completely, because no one but God really can understand your exact circumstance, but I have been at a place where bedtime was just another reminder that tomorrow is another painful day. The pain in your life seems unbearable right now. You can t function because the heartache overwhelms you. It is impacting every aspect of your life. Some may even call it clinical depression.

I dont know what to tell you. I could share with you that God says His grace is sufficient for you. I could tell you that He says He will never leave you nor forsake you. I could tell you that He said He is working all things for good (and He is, even though you cant see it right now). I could remind you that He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. I could, if you need this, share with you that Christ is the only answer, and the only way to get to God, and you should trust in Him alone for salvation and help, if you never have.

I can tell you lots of comforting thoughts from Gods Word, but would that work? Would that dry up those tears? Perhaps for a time, but then they would return again. What you need is time; time for God to work His will in your life. You need to remind yourself that God is in con trol and then you need to wait on the Lord and be of good cheer. As you shed your tears, He is watching, and He is catching them so He might one day make you whole again. In fact, He will actually make you better than you were before.

Lord, bless your people as they share their tears with You!

My Utmost For His Highest : "Quench Not The Spirit"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 13, 2008

QUENCH NOT THE SPIRIT

Quench not the Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:19
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1th+5:19&sr=1

The voice of the Spirit is as gentle as a zephyr, so gentle that
unless you are living in perfect communion with God, you never hear
it. The checks of the Spirit come in the most extraordinarily gentle
ways, and if you are not sensitive enough to detect His voice you
will quench it, and your personal spiritual life will be impaired.
His checks always come as a still small voice, so small that no one
but the saint notices them.

Beware if in personal testimony you have to hark back and say -
"Once, so many years ago, I was saved." If you are walking in the
light, there is no harking back, the past is transfused into the
present wonder of communion with God. If you get out of the light you
become a sentimental Christian and live on memories, your testimony
has a hard, metallic note. Beware of trying to patch up a present
refusal to walk in the light by recalling past experiences when you
did walk in the light. Whenever the Spirit checks, call a halt and
get the thing right, or you will go on grieving Him without knowing
it.

Suppose God has brought you up to a crisis and you nearly go through
but not quite, He will engineer the crisis again, but it will not be
so keen as it was before. There will be less discernment of God and
more humiliation at not having obeyed; and if you go on grieving the
Spirit, there will come a time when that crisis cannot be repeated,
you have grieved Him away. But if you go through the crisis, there
will be the pæan of praise to God. Never sympathize with the thing
that is stabbing God all the time. God has to hurt the thing that
must go.

SETTING A GOOD EXAMPLE

1 Timothy 4:11-16
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Timothy+4:11-16

Dear Father,

May we never lessen our commitment to you because someone
criticizes us. Instead, let us set an example in speech and
conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Encourage us to busy ourselves with the reading of Scripture, with
preaching and teaching. Help us not to neglect whatever gifts we
have from you. Help us use every resource you have given us to
serve fruitfully in your kingdom, that we may be saved and that
others may come to a saving relationship with your Son Jesus
Christ.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- No More Den of Thieves -- Mark 11:15-17

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

No More Den of Thieves

Jesus went to Jerusalem. He went into the temple area. Jesus
began to throw out the people that were buying and selling
things there. Jesus turned over the tables that belonged to
the people that were exchanging different kinds of money. And
Jesus turned over the benches of those people that were
selling doves. Jesus refused to allow any person to carry
things through the temple area. Then Jesus taught the people.
He said, "It is written in the Scriptures, 'My house will be
called a house for prayer for all people.' But you are
changing God's house into a 'hiding place for thieves.'"

-- Mark 11:15-17 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus invades the Temple to restore it to its purpose. This was to be a
place of prayer. This place was to be open to all the nations. This
place wasn't about making a profit off people seeking God. This place
wasn't about merchandising the grace of God. While Jesus' actions were
bold and shocking to those of his day, we have a tendency to let the
distance in both time and culture soften the implications. If Jesus
invades our hearts, our worship, our religious places and times, what
sacred cows will he drive away? Are we open to other nations and
cultures? Are we about being a place and people of prayer? How have we
sold out our Savior and our worship of him to our over-commercialized
culture? How have we let religious charlatans fleece God-seeking
people? And if our bodies are God's temple, then what does this all
mean for us?

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O God, my heavenly Father, help me see my sacred cows and let Jesus
drive them out of my life. Humble me gently as you lovingly, but
completely, remove the idols and vestiges of false religion that
inhabit my heart. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Romans 8:13-14

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 13, 2008

VERSE:
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die;
but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you
will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons
of God.
-- Romans 8:13-14
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+8:13-14

THOUGHT:
Sometimes it's a battle. Sometimes it's a war. Without the
power of the Spirit, our willpower would eventually give out and
our ending would be more distant from our Target than our
beginning. But because of the Spirit's power, our losses can be
overcome and our progress to our Goal is assured. (2 Corinthians
3:17-18)

PRAYER:
Forgive me, Father, for the times when I've let my flesh win
out over the call of your Spirit. Thank you for cleansing me with
the Spirit's holy fire and sanctifying me and drawing me onward to
be more like my Savior. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
