Upon Maturity, we sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his company that Mr.Katif Salah. was aboard the AF4590 plane, which crashed December, 25 2003. The total sum, $22.5M is still in my bank and the interest is being rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each year. All efforts to trace and locate his next of kin proved abortive. =========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

How Money Buys Happiness, by Rubel Shelly

Researchers at Harvard Business School and the University of British
Columbia are challenging the old, shop-worn thesis that money can't buy
happiness. At least, they are challenging us to think about how we use
money and how its use for unselfish reasons relates to one's personal
happiness.

There is certainly nothing appealing or spiritual about poverty. Both
the Bible and common sense say that poverty tempts one not only to envy
but to stealing and violence. So there is a considerable body of
research that says people become happier as they move from being very
poor to lower middle class. All of us are more content with a life that
has basic needs met, lets us feed and educate our children, and be free
of constant worry over clothes and shelter.

That same body of research says that the impact on happiness is
marginal to imaginary when people get above the poverty line. A
whopping raise for the person making $45,000 to $100,000 won't make her
healthy, make his siblings any easier to live with, or fix their
marriage. Increments of monetary increase in this range are, in fact,
the ones that frequently come laden with stress.

It is here that we encounter one of the great paradoxes of modern life:
the people who spend so much of their time in the pursuit of more and
more money seem to experience dramatically diminishing returns in
personal fulfillment and joy with life. This is surely why we say money
doesn't buy happiness.

Put your money on another's need.

But now let's go back to the work of those researchers I mentioned
earlier. As published in the March 21, 2008, issue of Science, their
findings support the claim that money does buy happiness when it is
spent on someone else. "Our findings suggest that very minor
alterations in spending allocations -- as little as $5 in our final
study -- may be sufficient to produce non-trivial gains in happiness on
a given day," said Dr. Michael Norton. In other words, it isn't having
more money that makes people happier so much as how they choose to
spend their money. Spending on gifts to friends, educating young
people, or sending kids to summer camp produces greater happiness for
someone than, say, buying a flat-screen TV or a computer with more
bells and whistles.

But didn't we already know that? It isn't money but the love of money
that the Bible condemns so emphatically. There is no sin in working
hard to provide for oneself, but greed and selfishness are sins of the
greatest magnitude.

If you'd like to buy some happiness, put your money on another's need.

Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in
good works and should give generously to those in need, always
being ready to share with others whatever God has given them. By
doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good
foundation for the future so that they may take hold of real life (1
Timothy 6:18-19 NLT).

Morning & Evening -- Ruth 2:2 and Psalms 65:11

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 1, 2008

MORNING:

"Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn."
-- Ruth 2:2

Downcast and troubled Christian, come and glean to-day in the broad
field of promise. Here are abundance of precious promises, which
exactly meet thy wants. Take this one: "He will not break the bruised
reed, nor quench the smoking flax." Doth not that suit thy case? A
reed, helpless, insignificant, and weak, a bruised reed, out of which
no music can come; weaker than weakness itself; a reed, and that reed
bruised, yet, he will not break thee; but on the contrary, will restore
and strengthen thee. Thou art like the smoking flax: no light, no
warmth, can come from thee; but he will not quench thee; he will blow
with his sweet breath of mercy till he fans thee to a flame. Wouldst
thou glean another ear? "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest." What soft words! Thy heart is tender,
and the Master knows it, and therefore he speaketh so gently to thee.
Wilt thou not obey him, and come to him even now? Take another ear of
corn: "Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord and
thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel." How canst thou fear with such a
wonderful assurance as this? Thou mayest gather ten thousand such
golden ears as these! "I have blotted out thy sins like a cloud, and
like a thick cloud thy transgressions." Or this, "Though your sins be
as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool." Or this, "The Spirit and the Bride
say, Come, and let him that is athirst come, and whosoever will let him
take the water of life freely." Our Master's field is very rich; behold
the handfuls. See, there they lie before thee, poor timid believer!
Gather them up, make them thine own, for Jesus bids thee take them. Be
not afraid, only believe! Grasp these sweet promises, thresh them out
by meditation and feed on them with joy.

EVENING:

"Thou crownest the year with thy goodness."
-- Psalms 65:11

All the year round, every hour of every day, God is richly blessing us;
both when we sleep and when we wake his mercy waits upon us. The sun
may leave us a legacy of darkness, but our God never ceases to shine
upon his children with beams of love. Like a river, his lovingkindness
is always flowing, with a fulness inexhaustible as his own nature. Like
the atmosphere which constantly surrounds the earth, and is always
ready to support the life of man, the benevolence of God surrounds all
his creatures; in it, as in their element, they live, and move, and
have their being. Yet as the sun on summer days gladdens us with beams
more warm and bright than at other times, and as rivers are at certain
seasons swollen by the rain, and as the atmosphere itself is sometimes
fraught with more fresh, more bracing, or more balmy influences than
heretofore, so is it with the mercy of God; it hath its golden hours;
its days of overflow, when the Lord magnifieth his grace before the
sons of men. Amongst the blessings of the nether springs, the joyous
days of harvest are a special season of excessive favour. It is the
glory of autumn that the ripe gifts of providence are then abundantly
bestowed; it is the mellow season of realization, whereas all before
was but hope and expectation. Great is the joy of harvest. Happy are
the reapers who fill their arms with the liberality of heaven. The
Psalmist tells us that the harvest is the crowning of the year. Surely
these crowning mercies call for crowning thanksgiving! Let us render it
by the inward emotions of gratitude. Let our hearts be warmed; let our
spirits remember, meditate, and think upon this goodness of the Lord.
Then let us praise him with our lips, and laud and magnify his name
from whose bounty all this goodness flows. Let us glorify God by
yielding our gifts to his cause. A practical proof of our gratitude is
a special thank-offering to the Lord of the harvest.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Garden Story 5

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Garden Story 5
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
When He had finished praying, Jesus left with His disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and He and His disciples went into it. Now Judas, who betrayed Him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples. So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to Him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" John 18:1-4 NIV

As we have looked at this wonderful passage of Jesus and the disciples during their last trip to the Garden, where they often went to pray, there are a couple of points I dont want you to miss. First, this was a familiar place, a comfortable place for Jesus and the disciples, and yet, this is where the biggest trial of their life appears. The hardest times in our life will be those things that happen close to home.

Second, before those trials in your life arrive, you need to be prepared. This was a scary event for the disciples, and for the human side of Jesus, but they were prepared. Jesus had spent three years preparing Himself and the disciples for this day. Jesus had taught them how to pray, how to abide, and who to trust in difficult days. You and I need to be prepared BEFORE the trouble comes. If you are in a calm period of your life today, fervently call upon the Lord, before the day of trouble comes.

Third, when those difficult times come, there is a God who cares. Jesus knew the disciples would be afraid. He protected them by making clear to the arresting party that He was in control, that it was Him for whom they were looking. God will never allow a trial in your life so deep that His grace will not be sufficeint for you. If you are in that difficult day today, tell God you give up trying to do it on your own, and ask God to send His grace.

(NOTE: I didn't say God "will not put more on you than you can bear." I don't believe that statement is even true. He will. I said He will not put more on you than His grace can provide for you. There's a huge difference here. The focus of strength in your weakness is on God; not on you!)

My Utmost For His Highest : "Something More About His Ways"

SOMETHING MORE ABOUT HIS WAYS

He comes where He commands us to leave.

"When Jesus had made an end of commanding his disciples,
he departed thence to teach and to preach in their
cities."

Matthew 11:1
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+11:1+&sr=1

If when God said "Go," you stayed because you were so concerned about
your people at home, you robbed them of the teaching and preaching of
Jesus Christ Himself. When you obeyed and left all consequences to
God, the Lord went into your city to teach; as long as you would not
obey, you were in the way. Watch where you begin to debate and to put
what you call duty in competition with your Lord's commands. "I know
He told me to go, but they my duty was here;" that means you do not
believe that Jesus means what He says.

He teaches where He instructs us not to.

"Master,...let us make three tabernacles."

Are we playing the spiritual amateur providence in other lives? Are
we so noisy in our instruction of others that God cannot get anywhere
near them? We have to keep our mouths shut and our spirits alert. God
wants to instruct us in regard to His Son, He wants to turn our times
of prayer into mounts of transfiguration, and we will not let Him.
When we are certain of the way God is going to work, He will never
work in that way any more.

He works where He sends us to wait.

"Tarry ye...until . . ." Wait on God and He will work, but don't wait
in spiritual sulks because you cannot see an inch in front of you!
Are we detached enough from our own spiritual hysterics to wait on
God? To wait is not to sit with folded hands, but to learn to do what
we are told.

These are phases of His ways we rarely recognize.

Dear Father,

Thank you for calling us to salvation through the Good News of
Christ, so that we may obtain the glory of the Lord Jesus. Help us
to stand firm and hold fast to the traditions of your holy
apostles.

May the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and you, our Father, who loved
us and gave eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort
our hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

In the name of Jesus I ask. Amen.

WJD! -- Among You, It Should Be Quite Different -- Mark 10:42-44

Among You, It Should Be Quite Different

Jesus called all the followers together. Jesus said, "The
non-Jewish people have men they call rulers. You know that
those rulers love to show their power over the people. And
their important leaders love to use all their authority over
the people. But it should not be that way with you. If one of
you wants to become great, then he must serve you like a
servant. If one of you wants to become the most important,
then he must serve all of you like a slave."

-- Mark 10:42-44 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' followers have heard a different tune than the world hears. They
have a different reason to live in this world. So naturally -- or
should we say, supernaturally -- we are to live very differently in the
world. One of the places this must show up is in those in whom we place
value. Our ultimate hero was a servant who washed his followers' feet
and then gave up his life for them. Shouldn't our everyday heroes
follow that same example? The greatest in Jesus' Kingdom IS a servant.
We mustn't wait until we are in heaven to recognize this value system;
we must display it in our communities today.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Father, help us -- help me -- to be quite different in what we value,
honor, and hold dear. In the name of Jesus, the greatest human who ever
lived, I ask this. Amen.

Today's Verse : Psalm 8:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

August 1, 2008

VERSE:
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
-- Psalm 8:1
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+8:1

THOUGHT:
These two concepts seem to be contradictory, or at least
unconnected. On the one hand, God's name is majestic in this plain
ol' transitory space we call earth, but at the same time he is
glorious and above the highest heavens. This collision of different
worlds is played out in the life of Israel. It is made clear in the
life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It will be made glorious in
us, who will one day share in the glory of the heavens because we
have boldly declared the majesty of our LORD God on earth!

PRAYER:
Thank you, dear Father, for Jesus' promise that if I honor you
and confess him on this earth, you will gladly honor me and call my
name in the presence of your angels when the time comes for me to
stand before your throne. In Jesus' name I thank you. Amen.
