Today's Verse : Isaiah 44:3

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 10, 2007

VERSE:
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the
dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my
blessing on your descendants.
-- Isaiah 44:3

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+44:3

THOUGHT:
Growing up in West Texas in part of my early years, I certainly
know what "thirsty land" truly is. The black dirt shrinks, leaving
deep cracks in the ground. All the grass turns yellow, then brown,
and then dies. A wisp of breeze stirs swirls of dust over the
barren land. When the downpour finally comes, the "thirsty land"
swallows voluminous amounts of water as the rain runs off the wet
surface and finds its way into the deep cracks left from the
drought. The ground swells, the grass comes back to life, and life
is replenished. In a barren spiritual wasteland, God's Holy Spirit
pours out his blessing, brings times of refreshment, and
replenishes our thirsty hearts.

PRAYER:
Generous and loving Father, thank you for so many blessings you
have poured into my life. Most of all, dear Father, thank you for
the blessing of your presence, your strength, your grace, and your
refreshment given to me through your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I
thank you. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: 100 Part 5

For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:5 NIV

Every year when we would go to Brazil on mission trips we bring back a carbonated soda drink that is popular in Brazil. Each time I drink some or look at one of the bottles I've saved, I'm reminded of my friends in Brazil. The problem with bringing any home is that soon the supply runs out and I have to wait for another mission trip to get that taste again. I don't have an eternal supply.

Some Christians live their life as if God's grace were in limited supply. We may depend on grace for salvation, but when it comes to staying in a vibrant, close relationship with God, we depend on our own strength. We may believe we are saved by grace, but we often feel we are kept in His grace by works.

Dear friends, God's love and faithfulness is eternal. Because of this, His grace is sufficient for every moment and every day of your life. We cannot judge God by the standards of this fallen world. The Bible says "His ways are not our ways". People may disappoint you, their love may run out, but God's love never will. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

If you are having trouble trusting God at this point in your life, reconsider in your mind who God is. Look at Him from the perspective of eternity. See Him for His everlasting qualities of love and faithfulness. Understand that if you are a child of God, then you are His and He has taken a special interest in your well-being. He cares for you, because He has adopted you as His child.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Leaving the Past, Living the Kingdom, by Paul Faulkner

As we get older, we have a tendency to look back, and if we aren't
careful, to give in to the selective eyesight that sees only the
problems and failures of the past. It's too easy to look for someone in
the past to blame or resent and way too easy to stumble around in
bitterness and regret.

The best thing to do with the past is to learn from it, while keeping
our eyes on today and looking forward to the days to come!

God wants us to live today!

Jesus talks about a man who "looks back" because he is not ready for
service in the kingdom of God (Luke 9:62). Now what that passage is
telling us is that the past can be a distraction that keeps us from
being what the Lord needs us to be today! The apostle Paul talks about
"forgetting what is behind" and moving on toward the things that God
has ahead (Philippians 3:13). We've got to stay centered in today,
seeking to honor God and living for his future. Remember what Jesus
taught us to pray: "... your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven"
(Matthew 6:10 TNIV).

The best way to change the past is to live the way God wants us to live
today, rooted in the moment and living for God -- in service to others
and in service to the Kingdom.

---------
(c) 2007 Paul Faulkner.

Morning & Evening -- Colossians 2:6 and Isaiah 33:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 9, 2007

MORNING:

"So walk ye in him."
-- Colossians 2:6

If we have received Christ himself in our inmost hearts, our new life
will manifest its intimate acquaintance with him by a walk of faith in
him. Walking implies action. Our religion is not to be confined to our
closet; we must carry out into practical effect that which we believe.
If a man walks in Christ, then he so acts as Christ would act; for
Christ being in him, his hope, his love, his joy, his life, he is the
reflex of the image of Jesus; and men say of that man, "He is like his
Master; he lives like Jesus Christ." Walking signifies progress. "So
walk ye in him"; proceed from grace to grace, run forward until you
reach the uttermost degree of knowledge that a man can attain
concerning our Beloved. Walking implies continuance. There must be a
perpetual abiding in Christ. How many Christians think that in the
morning and evening they ought to come into the company of Jesus, and
may then give their hearts to the world all the day: but this is poor
living; we should always be with him, treading in his steps and doing
his will. Walking also implies habit. When we speak of a man's walk and
conversation, we mean his habits, the constant tenor of his life. Now,
if we sometimes enjoy Christ, and then forget him; sometimes call him
ours, and anon lose our hold, that is not a habit; we do not walk in
him. We must keep to him, cling to him, never let him go, but live and
have our being in him. "As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so
walk ye in him"; persevere in the same way in which ye have begun, and,
as at the first Christ Jesus was the trust of your faith, the source of
your life, the principle of your action, and the joy of your spirit, so
let him be the same till life's end; the same when you walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, and enter into the joy and the rest
which remain for the people of God. O Holy Spirit, enable us to obey
this heavenly precept.

EVENING:

"His place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread
shall be given him; his waters shall be sure."
-- Isaiah 33:16

Do you doubt, O Christian, do you doubt as to whether God will fulfil
his promise? Shall the munitions of rock be carried by storm? Shall the
storehouses of heaven fail? Do you think that your heavenly Father,
though he knoweth that you have need of food and raiment, will yet
forget you? When not a sparrow falls to the ground without your Father,
and the very hairs of your head are all numbered, will you mistrust and
doubt him? Perhaps your affliction will continue upon you till you dare
to trust your God, and then it shall end. Full many there be who have
been tried and sore vexed till at last they have been driven in sheer
desperation to exercise faith in God, and the moment of their faith has
been the instant of their deliverance; they have seen whether God would
keep his promise or not. Oh, I pray you, doubt him no longer! Please
not Satan, and vex not yourself by indulging any more those hard
thoughts of God. Think it not a light matter to doubt Jehovah.
Remember, it is a sin; and not a little sin either, but in the highest
degree criminal. The angels never doubted him, nor the devils either:
we alone, out of all the beings that God has fashioned, dishonour him
by unbelief, and tarnish his honour by mistrust. Shame upon us for
this! Our God does not deserve to be so basely suspected; in our past
life we have proved him to be true and faithful to his word, and with
so many instances of his love and of his kindness as we have received,
and are daily receiving, at his hands, it is base and inexcusable that
we suffer a doubt to sojourn within our heart. May we henceforth wage
constant war against doubts of our God-enemies to our peace and to his
honour; and with an unstaggering faith believe that what he has
promised he will also perform. "Lord, I believe, help thou mine
unbelief."

My Utmost For His Highest : "Sacramental Service"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 9, 2007

SACRAMENTAL SERVICE

Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up
that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ... .

Colossians 1:2

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=col+1:2&sr=1

The Christian worker has to be a sacramental "go-between," to be so
identified with his Lord and the reality of His Redemption that He
can continually bring His creating life through him. It is not the
strength of one man's personality being superimposed on another, but
the real presence of Christ coming through the elements of the
worker's life. When we preach the historic facts of the life and
death of Our Lord as they are conveyed in the New Testament, our
words are made sacramental, God uses them on the ground of His
Redemption to create in those who listen that which is not created
otherwise. If we preach the effects of Redemption in human life
instead of the revelation regarding Jesus, the result in those who
listen is not new birth, but refined spiritual culture, and the
Spirit of God cannot witness to it because such preaching is in
another domain. We have to see that we are in such living sympathy
with God that as we proclaim His truth He can create in souls the
things which He alone can do.

What a wonderful personality! What a fascinating man! Such marvellous
insight! What chance has the Gospel of God through all that? It
cannot get through, because the line of attraction is always the line
of appeal. If a man attracts by his personality, his appeal is along
that line; if he is identified with his Lord's personality, then the
appeal is along the line of what Jesus Christ can do. The danger is
to glory in men; Jesus says we are to lift Him up.

Praying with Paul : "Good Spouses"

GOOD SPOUSES

Ephesians 5:25-33

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+5:25-33

Dear Father,

Help me to be the good husband that you want me to be. Help me to
love my wife even as Christ loves his church, being willing to give
himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her
by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the
church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

Help me to keep your command to love my wife as I love my own
body. Empower me to love her as I love myself.

Help me to live in such a way as to help her in her attempt to be
holy before you. May I always support, encourage, comfort, and
nourish her for her good.

In the name of Jesus, the one husband of the church. Amen.

The Greatest Risk

"Then another servant came in. The servant said to the king,
'Sir, here is your bag of money. I wrapped it in a piece of
cloth and hid it. I was afraid of you because you are a hard
man. You even take money that you didn't earn and gather food
that you didn't grow!' Then the king said to the servant,
'You bad servant! I will use your own words to condemn you.
You said that I am a hard man. You said that I even take
money that I didn't earn and gather food that I didn't grow.
If that is true, you should have put my money in the bank.
Then, when I came back, my money would have earned some
interest.' Then the king said to the men that were watching,
'Take the bag of money away from this servant and give it to
the servant that earned ten bags of money.' The men said to
the king, 'But sir, that servant already has ten bags of
money!' The king said, 'The person that uses what he has will
get more. But the person that does not use what he has will
have everything taken away from him. Now where are my
enemies? Where are the people that did not want me to be
king? Bring my enemies here and kill them. I will watch them
die!'"

-- Luke 19:20-27 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
If the others who received the King's bags of money made good use of
them, the third servant mentioned did just the opposite. His view of
the King was very negative and he was afraid to take risks and truly
use the money entrusted to him. His fears made him take the greatest
risk of all: doing nothing. Fear immobilizes us. Jesus doesn't want us
to be afraid to risk for the Kingdom; in fact, he wants us to know that
the greatest risk of all is to look fearfully at God and to think we
are playing it safe by just hiding all that he has entrusted to us to
use for his glory.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, keep my heart from being afraid to make great efforts to do
great things. While I know that there is always a chance of an
embarrassing failure, I also realize that an even greater embarrassment
would be to do nothing with all that you have entrusted to me. Give me
wisdom and confidence in putting to use your truth and blessings in my
life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
