Christ is the Question of Questions

Christ is the Question of Questions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bible Verses~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luke 20:40 For they no longer dared to question Him about
anything. (41) And He said to them, How is it that they say
that the Christ is David's son? (42) For David himself says in
the book of Psalms, "The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right
hand, (43) Until I place Your enemies as a footstool for Your
feet." (44) David therefore calls Him Lord, and how is He his
son?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Words of Ministry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 20:1-38 the Lord was surrounded by the chief priests,
elders, Pharisees, Herodians, and Sadducees, who tried to
ensnare Him by asking insidious questions. First, the chief
priests, scribes, and elders, representing the authority of the
Jewish religion and the authority of the Jewish people asked
Him concerning His authority (v. 2). This was a question
according to their religious concept. Second, the fundamental
Pharisees and political Herodians asked Him a question related
to politics. Third, the Sadducees questioned Him concerning the
resurrection. After answering all their questions wisely, the
Lord asked them a question concerning Christ. This is the
question of questions. Their questions were related to
religion, politics, and belief. His question was concerning
Christ, who is the center of all things. They knew religion,
politics, and belief, but they paid no attention to Christ.

In verses 41 through 44 the Lord said to His examiners, "How
can they say that the Christ is David's son? For David himself
says in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My
right hand, until I place Your enemies as a footstool for Your
feet. David therefore calls Him Lord, and how is He his son?"
As God in His divinity, Christ is the Lord of David. As man in
His humanity, He is the Son of David. His examiners had only
half the scriptural knowledge concerning Christ's Person, that
He was the Son of David according to His humanity. They did not
have the other half, concerning Christ's divinity as the Son of
God. The Lord's intention in 20:41-44 was to help His examiners
to see that the One they were questioning was actually the
Lord.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will
disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire,
and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since
everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people
ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you
look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day
will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the
elements will melt in the heat.

The statistically proven facts that married people live longer,
lead healthier and happier lives, have better sex more often,

lifestyles are equally good, the marriage critics say; there is
no one way of living that is better than another. But the
culture is wrong!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Work as Witness, by Rubel Shelly

Centuries ago somebody began spreading the false idea that the
Christian life is to be understood in terms of two arenas -- sacred and
secular. Sacred places are church buildings. Sacred events are those
such as worship or baptism or weddings. Sacred people are preachers or
church officers.

The remainder of life was declared secular. So farms, stores, and
schools were secular places. Surgery and manufacturing, accounting and
teaching, driving and watching TV -- all were labeled secular. And
ordinary people doing the routine and humdrum things of shopping,
eating, and reading are secular.

But that is so terribly wrong. In God's plan for human existence, it
makes no sense. In light of Christ's teaching, work is witness.

I can grant that there is a sense of the sacred and holy in a church
assembled for worship that is missing from a crowded, noisy office.
But, work is sacred, too. It is holy by virtue of divine presence you
bring to it as a person filled with God's Spirit and participating in
God's creative work.

Work isn't an unspiritual curse!

Writing letters, hiring people, selling lumber, stocking shelves,
firing someone who broke company policy again, answering phones --
these and whatever other things you will be expected to do today are
not secular. They're not, that is, unless you misunderstand your role
in them. You and I are in the world to continue the work of God.
Creating. Improving. Empowering. Doing things that we and others will
look at and say are "good" or even "very good."

My appeal is not that we should become workaholics. Instead, it is that
we see ourselves as God sees us. We are extensions of his presence into
the nooks and crannies of the world. If Paul could tell slaves to do
their chores "with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not to men and women"
(Ephesians 6:5-8 NRS), surely some of us could take a more elevated
view of our tasks in the workplace.

Work isn't an unspiritual curse from which you should desire freedom in
order to visit retreats, seminars, and workshops on spiritual life. It
is your lab for turning lead to gold, humdrum to holy by the
Spirit-presence you take to life.

Your spiritual life won't be on hold as you work today. It will be on
display.

Morning & Evening -- Psalms 65:11 and 1 Samuel 15:22

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 18, 2007

MORNING:

"Thy paths drop fatness."
-- Psalms 65:11

Many are "the paths of the Lord" which "drop fatness," but an especial
one is the path of prayer. No believer, who is much in the closet, will
have need to cry, "My leanness, my leanness; woe unto me." Starving
souls live at a distance from the mercy- seat, and become like the
parched fields in times of drought. Prevalence with God in wrestling
prayer is sure to make the believer strong-if not happy. The nearest
place to the gate of heaven is the throne of the heavenly grace. Much
alone, and you will have much assurance; little alone with Jesus, your
religion will be shallow, polluted with many doubts and fears, and not
sparkling with the joy of the Lord. Since the soul-enriching path of
prayer is open to the very weakest saint; since no high attainments are
required; since you are not bidden to come because you are an advanced
saint, but freely invited if you be a saint at all; see to it, dear
reader, that you are often in the way of private devotion. Be much on
your knees, for so Elijah drew the rain upon famished Israel's fields.

There is another especial path dropping with fatness to those who walk
therein, it is the secret walk of communion. Oh! the delights of
fellowship with Jesus! Earth hath no words which can set forth the holy
calm of a soul leaning on Jesus' bosom. Few Christians understand it,
they live in the lowlands and seldom climb to the top of Nebo: they
live in the outer court, they enter not the holy place, they take not
up the privilege of priesthood. At a distance they see the sacrifice,
but they sit not down with the priest to eat thereof, and to enjoy the
fat of the burnt offering. But, reader, sit thou ever under the shadow
of Jesus; come up to that palm tree, and take hold of the branches
thereof; let thy beloved be unto thee as the apple-tree among the trees
of the wood, and thou shalt be satisfied as with marrow and fatness. O
Jesus, visit us with thy salvation!

EVENING:

"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice."
-- 1 Samuel 15:22

Saul had been commanded to slay utterly all the Amalekites and their
cattle. Instead of doing so, he preserved the king, and suffered his
people to take the best of the oxen and of the sheep. When called to
account for this, he declared that he did it with a view of offering
sacrifice to God; but Samuel met him at once with the assurance that
sacrifices were no excuse for an act of direct rebellion. The sentence
before us is worthy to be printed in letters of gold, and to be hung up
before the eyes of the present idolatrous generation, who are very fond
of the fineries of will-worship, but utterly neglect the laws of God.
Be it ever in your remembrance, that to keep strictly in the path of
your Saviour's command is better than any outward form of religion; and
to hearken to his precept with an attentive ear is better than to bring
the fat of rams, or any other precious thing to lay upon his altar. If
you are failing to keep the least of Christ's commands to his
disciples, I pray you be disobedient no longer. All the pretensions you
make of attachment to your Master, and all the devout actions which you
may perform, are no recompense for disobedience. "To obey," even in the
slightest and smallest thing, "is better than sacrifice," however
pompous. Talk not of Gregorian chants, sumptuous robes, incense, and
banners; the first thing which God requires of his child is obedience;
and though you should give your body to be burned, and all your goods
to feed the poor, yet if you do not hearken to the Lord's precepts, all
your formalities shall profit you nothing. It is a blessed thing to be
teachable as a little child, but it is a much more blessed thing when
one has been taught the lesson, to carry it out to the letter. How many
adorn their temples and decorate their priests, but refuse to obey the
word of the Lord! My soul, come not thou into their secret.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Key To Missionary Devotion"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

October 18, 2007

THE KEY TO MISSIONARY DEVOTION

For His name's sake they went forth.

3 John 1:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=3jo+1:7&sr=1

Our Lord has told us how love to Him is to manifest itself. "Lovest
thou Me?" "Feed My sheep" - identify yourself with My interests in
other people, not, identify Me with your interests in other people. 1
Corinthians 8:4-8 gives the character of this love, it is the love of
God expressing itself. The test of my love for Jesus is the practical
one, all the rest is sentimental jargon.

Loyalty to Jesus Christ is the supernatural work of Redemption
wrought in me by the Holy Ghost Who sheds abroad the love of God in
my heart, and that love works efficaciously through me in contact
with everyone I meet. I remain loyal to His Name although every
common-sense fact gives the lie to Him, and declares that He has no
more power than a morning mist.

The key to missionary devotion means being attached to nothing and no
one saving Our Lord Himself, not being detached from things
externally. Our Lord was amazingly in and out among ordinary things;
His detachment was on the inside towards God. External detachment is
often an indication of a secret vital attachment to the things we
keep away from externally.

The loyalty of a missionary is to keep his soul concentratedly open
to the nature of the Lord Jesus Christ. The men and women Our Lord
sends out on His enterprises are the ordinary human stuff, plus
dominating devotion to Himself wrought by the Holy Ghost.

Mustard Seed Thought: God's Promises Nine

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15 NIV

When I was in Brazil, witnessing to hundreds of people everyday, I would often begin my presentation of the gospel with this question: Do you believe the Word of God is true? If they didn't believe the Bible, then what I was sharing with them would have no weight of sincerity in their lives. It would be meaningless and I would be wasting their time and mine.

Dear friend, do you believe God's Word. If you do, then these two verses of Scripture must also be true.

I have heard from many readers who say they don't feel God answering their prayers. I have to point you back to the Word of God and say that the only way to reconcile that statement is that either they are not listening or they aren't listening long enough. God does hear His children and He does respond....He does it in His time.

Notice that phrase "according to His will". I don't have to ask my wife if she wants to spend Saturdays with me. She looks forward to our time together whatever we do. I know her "will" because I have spent time studying who my wife is and what makes her happy.

God wants no less from you and me. As we spend time getting to know our God, then we begin implementing His will into our lives, praying for those things which will please Him the most, then we will begin to see huge results from our prayers! Heaven opens the floodgates of blessings when our prayers begin reflecting the heart of God. Get to know God's heart today and watch God amazingly hear and respond in your favor!

Lord, help us to walk within your will today, reflecting your love and heart within every utterance that comes from our minds, mouths and actions.

MAGNIFICENT SERVICE

Ephesians 3:1-8

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Ephesians+3:1-8

Dear Father,

Thank you for the great apostle Paul and for his life of
magnificent service. I know that it was through your graciousness
that he was called. It demonstrated the working of your great power
to turn a human life from rebellion to obedience.

Thank you for such a man, who could count himself as the very
least of all your people. Thank you for such humility. He boasted
not of himself but of you! My Father, let me imitate him completely
in this!

Thank you that through him, at least at first, the unsearchable
riches of Christ were proclaimed, to make all men see what was the
plan of the secret which you had kept hidden for ages in yourself,
the God who created all things.

In the name of Jesus I give you thanks and make these requests.
Amen.

WJD! -- Never Give Up -- Luke 18:1

Never Give Up

Then Jesus taught the followers that they should always pray
and never lose hope. Jesus used this story to teach them:

-- Luke 18:1 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus had two points he wanted to impress into the hearts of his
disciples. First, he wanted them to be dedicated to prayer and have it
as a constant part of their lives. Second, he wanted them to know that
they must never give up, no matter what the circumstances might be.
While Jesus makes his points clear, why did he feel the need to tell a
story? The answer is pretty straightforward. Stories help us remember.
They connect to a different place in our hearts and in our heads rather
than just saying the main point. Finally, Jesus used stories from
everyday experience so that the sight or experience of something
similar would bring his teaching back into the forefront of their
thoughts. So the next time you hear about a Bible teacher or preacher
who tells too many stories, remind the folks of the Master Storyteller
-- Jesus!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for Jesus' ability to put your truth into everyday
stories. Thank you for the truth that they carry and the power they
have in our memories. Thank you for giving so much of your truth in
Scripture in the form of stories. Most of all, dear Father, help me to
never give up as I seek your will, your presence, and your help through
prayer. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : 1 Timothy 1:12

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

VERSE:
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that
he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.
-- 1 Timothy 1:12

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Timothy+1:12

THOUGHT:
We minister by grace. We are saved and made holy by God's grace
given us in Jesus. We are declared holy and blameless before God
because of the grace of Jesus. We are given a gift to use in
ministry for the Church because of the grace of Jesus. We are given
strength from the Holy Spirit to persevere during difficult times
because of the grace of God in Jesus. So what ministry we find
ourselves capable of performing, what opportunities we have to
serve and make a difference in people's lives, and what power we
have in fulfilling our ministry are all given to us. It is not
something to boast about. The Lord's power is made perfect in
weakness as we offer ourselves to him to be used for his glory.

PRAYER:
Glorify your name, O God my Eternal Father. Thank you for Jesus
who has redeemed me, gifted me, strengthened me, led me, and
empowered me to serve. May you be glorified in all that I say and
do. In Jesus' name. Amen.
