Today's Verse : John 3:17

VERSE:
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but to save the world through him.
-- John 3:17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=John+3:17

THOUGHT:
God is not about condemnation. I know that Satan got the rumor
started a long time ago, but don't believe it. He is not some
fiendish teacher looking to flunk and embarrass his/her students.
He is not some cantankerous judge looking to shame, humiliate, and
punish all who interlope into his/her court, innocent or not. He is
not some gossip spreading rumors about our shortcomings across the
neighborhoods of heaven. No, this God wants to bless us with his
salvation. He wants to dispense mercy and grace. He wants us to be
his children. Yet he is also holy, righteous, awesome, and just. So
when these two realities of God collide, there is only one
solution: Jesus! God sent Jesus to save people of all nations and
races and cultures from sin and death -- yes, even us!

PRAYER:
I praise you, O God, for your desire to save me. I thank you for
demanding holiness from me to save me from the havoc sin causes in
my life. I thank you for calling me to righteousness, so that my
life will be a blessing to others and not a burden. I thank you for
challenging me to have your character, so that others can see your
glory in my good deeds. So please use me, Father. I know I am
flawed, but I want to be one of your tools letting the lost know
about your mercy and grace in Jesus. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: Nativity 7

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. Matthew 1:24 NIV

When the story is told, Joseph does as the Lord has commanded him.

One of my favorite memory verses is Genesis 6:22. It says, "Noah did just what the Lord commanded him." Its really simple, easy to remember, and holds a great truth. Joseph was a man much like Noah.

If you think about it; Joseph wasn't called to lead an army into battle like Gideon was. God didn't require that he go before the Pharoah, such as He did with Moses. Joseph wasn't asked to build an ark like Noah, preach to the wicked city of Nineveh like Jonah, or fight a giant like David. He was not called to be a great hero. Yet he was!

No, Joseph was asked to be a father to a boy who was not his own. God required Joseph to love, to nurture, to instruct and lead the Creator of the world from infancy to adulthood. Joseph was to prepare Jesus to be a man; a man who would live a sinless life, yet be punished for something that He claimed to be (and was), and hung on a rugged cross until death. Joseph was to raise a son so He might die!

It was really a very noble task. It was a call to be a great Dad. Many of us today are called to be the same. It is an awesome responsibility, but one that would play a part in changing the world forever. Us Dads have that opportunity today as we influence a generation for Christ.

This Christmas, as you look at Joseph in your nativity scene, remember a father who helped change a world. If you are a father thank God for the challenge you have, and if not, think of a Dad who is trying to make a difference in the world through the life of his kids.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

With Us!, by Bill Denton

"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and
they shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, "God
with us." (Matthew 1:23 NASB)

"Only Christians believe in a God who says, 'Here I am
alongside you. I have experienced the same suffering you have.
I know what it is like.' No other religion even begins to offer
that assurance." (Tim Keller, "Preaching Amid Pluralism,"
Leadership Magazine, Winter 2002, pp. 34-35.)

The fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy happened in the birth of Jesus.
But it was not simply in the birth of a child to Mary. The vital
preface to that birth, found in announcements by angels to both Mary
and Joseph, revealed an act of God that staggers the mind. This was no
illicit conception of unwed parents. It was no ordinary conception of a
married couple. It was a birth created by an act of the Holy Spirit,
planting a child in a virgin's womb. But it's even more than that. If
you ever wondered how Joseph handled the news that the young woman to
whom he was engaged was pregnant, you might consider the words of the
angel. "They shall call His name Immanuel." It's a name that means "God
with us."

"God with us" helps us understand God's ultimate will.

One might legitimately ask, "What does that mean, 'God with us?'" It
tells us who this child, born to Mary, actually is. He was never just a
baby. He was a divinely conceived baby. He was never just another
person, born to a mother. He was God's Son; God incarnate born to a
human mother. Throughout His ministry, into the ministry of the
apostles, and even today, the goal of biblical teaching and preaching
is first to create understanding and belief in Jesus as the Son of God.

The incarnation is not totally explainable to us, for it is surely the
most unique birth, of the most unique person, ever born. Consider the
power of his miracles, the wisdom of his teaching, the magnetism of his
person, the uncanny combination of strength, and love, and grace, and
mercy. This is one of the most important things about the incarnation.
Since Jesus was God in the flesh, he reveals God to us in the only way
we can grasp the information. He is the divine, packaged in flesh, to
help us see the invisible God with our eyes, our minds, and our senses.
Only because God is "with us" in human form can we possibly fathom the
unfathomable. "God with us" helps us understand God's ultimate will.
Through the virgin birth, God came in the realest sense. Because Jesus
was divine in human form, his actions were God with us. His role as
Savior is that of God acting on our behalf. With us means we are never
alone. Next time you feel lonely and think that nobody cares, remember
Jesus, who is God with us.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 7:14 and Job 1:5

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 25, 2007

MORNING:

"Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall
call his name Immanuel."
-- Isaiah 7:14

Let us to-day go down to Bethlehem, and in company with wondering
shepherds and adoring Magi, let us see him who was born King of the
Jews, for we by faith can claim an interest in him, and can sing, "Unto
us a child is born, unto us a son is given." Jesus is Jehovah
incarnate, our Lord and our God, and yet our brother and friend; let us
adore and admire. Let us notice at the very first glance his miraculous
conception. It was a thing unheard of before, and unparalleled since,
that a virgin should conceive and bear a Son. The first promise ran
thus, "The seed of the woman," not the offspring of the man. Since
venturous woman led the way in the sin which brought forth Paradise
lost, she, and she alone, ushers in the Regainer of Paradise. Our
Saviour, although truly man, was as to his human nature the Holy One of
God. Let us reverently bow before the holy Child whose innocence
restores to manhood its ancient glory; and let us pray that he may be
formed in us, the hope of glory. Fail not to note his humble parentage.
His mother has been described simply as "a virgin," not a princess, or
prophetess, nor a matron of large estate. True the blood of kings ran
in her veins; nor was her mind a weak and untaught one, for she could
sing most sweetly a song of praise; but yet how humble her position,
how poor the man to whom she stood affianced, and how miserable the
accommodation afforded to the new-born King!

Immanuel, God with us in our nature, in our sorrow, in our lifework, in
our punishment, in our grave, and now with us, or rather we with him,
in resurrection, ascension, triumph, and Second Advent splendour.

EVENING:

"And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone
about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in
the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the
number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have
sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job
continually."
-- Job 1:5

What the patriarch did early in the morning, after the family
festivities, it will be well for the believer to do for himself ere he
rests tonight. Amid the cheerfulness of household gatherings it is easy
to slide into sinful levities, and to forget our avowed character as
Christians. It ought not to be so, but so it is, that our days of
feasting are very seldom days of sanctified enjoyment, but too
frequently degenerate into unhallowed mirth. There is a way of joy as
pure and sanctifying as though one bathed in the rivers of Eden: holy
gratitude should be quite as purifying an element as grief. Alas! for
our poor hearts, that facts prove that the house of mourning is better
than the house of feasting. Come, believer, in what have you sinned
to-day? Have you been forgetful of your high calling? Have you been
even as others in idle words and loose speeches? Then confess the sin,
and fly to the sacrifice. The sacrifice sanctifies. The precious blood
of the Lamb slain removes the guilt, and purges away the defilement of
our sins of ignorance and carelessness. This is the best ending of a
Christmas-day-to wash anew in the cleansing fountain. Believer, come to
this sacrifice continually; if it be so good to-night, it is good every
night. To live at the altar is the privilege of the royal priesthood;
to them sin, great as it is, is nevertheless no cause for despair,
since they draw near yet again to the sin-atoning victim, and their
conscience is purged from dead works.

Gladly I close this festive day,
Grasping the altar's hallow'd horn;
My slips and faults are washed away,
The Lamb has all my trespass borne.

My Utmost For His Highest : "His Birth And Our New Birth"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

December 25, 2007

HIS BIRTH AND OUR NEW BIRTH

Behold, a virgin shall bring forth a son, and they shall
call His name Emanuel, which being interpreted is, God
with us.

Isaiah 7:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+7:14&sr=1

His Birth in History. "Therefore also that holy thing which shall be
born of thee shall be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:35.) Jesus
Christ was born into this world, not from it. He did not evolve out
of history; He came into history from the outside. Jesus Christ is
not the best human being, He is a Being Who cannot be accounted for
by the human race at all. He is not man becoming God, but God
Incarnate, God coming into human flesh, coming into it from outside.
His life is the Highest and the Holiest entering in at the Lowliest
door. Our Lord's birth was an advent.

His Birth in Me. "Of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be
formed in you." (Gal. 4:19.) Just as Our Lord came into human history
from outside, so He must come into me from outside. Have I allowed my
personal human life to become a "Bethlehem" for the Son of God? I
cannot enter into the realm of the Kingdom of God unless I am born
from above by a birth totally unlike natural birth. "Ye must be born
again." This is not a command, it is a foundation fact. The
characteristic of the new birth is that I yield myself so completely
to God that Christ is formed in me. Immediately Christ is formed in
me, His nature begins to work through me.

God manifest in the flesh - that is what is made profoundly possible
for you and me by the Redemption.

IN THE NAME OF JESUS

Colossians 3:15-17

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Colossians+3:15-17

Dear Father,

Let Christ's peace rule in our hearts. Let us be at peace in his
one body. Fill our hearts and mouths with overflowing thanksgiving.

Let Christ's word dwell in us richly. Let us teach and admonish
each other in all wisdom.

Let us impart grace through the songs flowing from thankful
hearts.

May we do everything, whatever it is, in the name of our Lord
Jesus.

We give thanks to you, our God and Father, through his name. Amen.

WJD! -- Honor God! -- Luke 23:50-56

Honor God!

A man was there from the Jewish town of Arimathea. His name
was Joseph. He was a good man, who lived the way God wanted.
He was waiting for God's kingdom to come. Joseph was a member
of the Jewish council. But he did not agree when the other
Jewish leaders decided to kill Jesus. Joseph went to Pilate
to ask for the body of Jesus. {Pilate let Joseph have the
body.} So Joseph took the body down from the cross and
wrapped it in cloth. Then he put Jesus' body in a tomb
(grave) that was dug in a wall of rock. This tomb had never
been used before. This was late on Preparation day. When the
sun went down, the Sabbath day would begin. The women that
had come from Galilee with Jesus followed Joseph. They saw
the tomb. Inside they saw where the body of Jesus was put.
Then the women left to prepare some sweet-smelling spices {to
put on Jesus' body}. On the Sabbath day they rested. The law
of Moses commanded all people to do this.

-- Luke 23:50-56 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
What do you do when all seems lost and life makes no sense? Joseph and
the women are our example to follow in the worst moments of horror in
our lives. They do the decent, kind, and generous thing -- they honor
Jesus in his death with a decent and honorable burial even though it
involved personal cost and great danger. Second, they honored the will
of God as they knew it from Scripture even though all seemed lost --
they honored the Sabbath as required by the Law. We will all face times
of desperation and trial. Let's remember the examples of Joseph and the
women. Often these actions, infused with the help of God's Spirit, are
what we most need to get us through the time of horror and to prepare
us for the joy that is on the horizon.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy and tender Father, please give me the courage to not give up my
faith in the difficult times I will face in my life. Give me the faith
to live with honor and decency even though no one else seems to value
these qualities. In addition, dear Father, help me have the discipline
and the will to honor you in simple obedience. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
