Jesus -- The Slave Who Is God

Jesus -- The Slave Who Is God

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mark 2:6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and
reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why is this man speaking this
way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins except One, God?
8 And immediately Jesus, knowing fully in His spirit that
they were reasoning this way within themselves, said to them,
Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Scribes and Pharisees, as the proponents of the old and dead
religion, were motivated and used by Satan, the enemy of God,
to oppose, resist, and frustrate the gospel service of the
Slave of God throughout all His ministry. They thought they
worshipped God and were zealous for Him, not knowing that the
very God of their forefathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob, was immediately before them in the form of a slave to
serve them. They were blinded by their traditional religion
from seeing Him in God's economy, and they plotted to kill
Him. Later they actually killed Him (15:1, 31).

The reasoning scribes, who considered themselves "scriptural"
and "theological," acknowledged the Slave-Savior merely as a
man, even a despised Nazarene (John 1:45-46). They did not
realize that the One who forgave the sins of the paralytic was
actually the forgiving God incarnated in the form of a lowly
man. The scribes, assuming that they knew the Scriptures,
thought that only God had authority to forgive sins, and that
Jesus, who in their eyes was only a man, blasphemed God when
He said, "Your sins are forgiven." This indicates that they
did not realize that the Lord was God.

The Gospel of Mark presents the Lord in the likeness of man
and in the form of a slave. The scribes did not realize that
within the humanity of this Slave there was deity. The Lord
behaved Himself in such a way as to indicate that within His
humanity there was deity. The Lord was a Nazarene in the form
of a slave; yet He had omniscience. Because He was omniscient,
He knew what the scribes were saying in their hearts.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Storm Thoughts 1

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Storm Thoughts 1
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side."

Mark 4:35 NIV

Over the next several posts I want to walk through a Scripture that has shaped my life over the years. I preached on this passage recently. You can listen or watch that message HERE. I intend to walk through this familiar passage verse by verse and share my thoughts along the way. Feel free to add your own as we learn together.

Jesus told the disciples to get in the boat. This was His idea. I often have to remind myself that Jesus was always purposeful. Even in His moments of play, Jesus was keeping the bigger picture of His role as a disciple-maker in mind. He never let go of the fact that He was on earth a short time with an intended objective. If I want to be like Jesus, I must continue to be purposeful with how I live my life.

The phrase to the other side is one that reminds me where Jesus is attempting to take me. The other side is where Gods glory shines brightest. Its where I can fully and completely, even if only for a brief moment, know that Jesus is who He says He is and that He can and will do what He says He will do. Going to the other side develops my faith.

Regardless of your situation today, no matter how grim it may appear, even if you have almost given up, Jesus wants to take you to the other side. Even if everything is going well in your life today, He wants to do something new with your faith. He wants to build a deeper trust in Himself.

Numerous times in my life I have sensed God was doing something new in me or around me. At times it has taken months to figure our what He was up to at the time, but every time I have found that if I am patient, obedient to what I know to do and follow His lead, He has delivered me safely and securely to the other side. Sadly, I can equally look back at times where I resisted His leading and missed out on what He w as trying to do in and through me.

My prayer today is to always be willing to trust and follow Him to the other side. Do you sense Gods stirring in you to take you somewhere? Will you follow?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Worth Doing Poorly?, by Rubel Shelly

Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly! Many of us miss some of
life's best things while saying, "I don't know how to do that. If I
were to try, I'd only make a fool of myself."

A fellow I know well tried to water ski -- once. He tried to get up on
the skis three or four times that day. Every time he tried, he wound up
tumbling into the water. The three guys on the lake with him all
coached. They also laughed at his frustration. "One last time!" he
yelled. Then, when he was yanked into the lake again, he swam over to
the boat. He was edgy for the remainder of the day. And he has never
tried to water ski again in the 40 or more years since.

Perfectionists settle for nothing short of a first-rate performance
from themselves. When they come across something that has to be learned
through trial and error, they become intolerant of their limitations.
They pile up points in the things they can do with ease and skill,
while ignoring -- and maybe even putting down -- the things they do
poorly.

People with this bent of personality can get depressed, for nobody is
capable of premier performance in everything. They get so tense they
sometimes botch even the things they are good at doing. They can't
relax. They remove risks from life by narrowing their interests. They
get in safe, comfortable, and boring ruts.

It's liberating for some people to find out they can make mistakes and
still survive! If your new dessert flops, the world won't end. If you
make a mistake at work, you won't die. If you can't master calculus or
statistics, you can still be a good person. If someone hears you sing
off-key, you won't become an outcast.

Thank God for mistakes. They let you learn. They mean you are still
pushing out your horizons. They give you a chance to grow. They let the
rest of us know you are still one of us.

Give it a shot.

If you were perfect, your life would be terribly dull. Nothing to
learn. No more challenges. No relationships with peers. The rest of us
would probably be too intimidated to talk to you, play tennis with you,
or work alongside you. And you certainly wouldn't need for anyone of
our inferior status to care about you.

So don't be paralyzed by your fears. Whatever it is that you want to do
and do well likely will be learned through a process that involves some
miscues and false starts. But, if it's worth doing at all, it's worth
doing poorly at first.

Give it a shot. Take piano lessons. Write a short story. Learn to use a
computer. Paint your bedroom. Water ski. Care about someone.

At the cross, God showed us how creative he can be with what looked to
all the world to be failure. Why not give him a chance with you?

Where are the wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the
philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the
world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom
did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what
was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and
Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling
block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God
has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the
wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human
wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength (1
Corinthians 1:20-25 TNIV).

Morning & Evening -- 1 Chronicles 5:22 and Numbers 11:23

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 8, 2009

MORNING:

"There fell down many slain, because the war was of God."
-- 1 Chronicles 5:22

Warrior, fighting under the banner of the Lord Jesus, observe this
verse with holy joy, for as it was in the days of old so is it now, if
the war be of God the victory is sure. The sons of Reuben, and the
Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh could barely muster five and
forty thousand fighting men, and yet in their war with the Hagarites,
they slew "men, an hundred thousand," "for they cried to God in the
battle, and he was entreated of them, because they put their trust in
him." The Lord saveth not by many nor by few; it is ours to go forth in
Jehovah's name if we be but a handful of men, for the Lord of Hosts is
with us for our Captain. They did not neglect buckler, and sword, and
bow, neither did they place their trust in these weapons; we must use
all fitting means, but our confidence must rest in the Lord alone, for
he is the sword and the shield of his people. The great reason of their
extraordinary success lay in the fact that "the war was of God."
Beloved, in fighting with sin without and within, with error doctrinal
or practical, with spiritual wickedness in high places or low places,
with devils and the devil's allies, you are waging Jehovah's war, and
unless he himself can be worsted, you need not fear defeat. Quail not
before superior numbers, shrink not from difficulties or
impossibilities, flinch not at wounds or death, smite with the
two-edged sword of the Spirit, and the slain shall lie in heaps. The
battle is the Lord's and he will deliver his enemies into our hands.
With steadfast foot, strong hand, dauntless heart, and flaming zeal,
rush to the conflict, and the hosts of evil shall fly like chaff before
the gale.

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor's song:
To him that overcometh,
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory
Shall reign eternally.

EVENING:

"Thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto
thee or not."
-- Numbers 11:23

God had made a positive promise to Moses that for the space of a whole
month he would feed the vast host in the wilderness with flesh. Moses,
being overtaken by a fit of unbelief, looks to the outward means, and
is at a loss to know how the promise can be fulfilled. He looked to the
creature instead of the Creator. But doth the Creator expect the
creature to fulfil his promise for him? No; he who makes the promise
ever fulfils it by his own unaided omnipotence. If he speaks, it is
done-done by himself. His promises do not depend for their fulfilment
upon the co-operation of the puny strength of man. We can at once
perceive the mistake which Moses made. And yet how commonly we do the
same! God has promised to supply our needs, and we look to the creature
to do what God has promised to do; and then, because we perceive the
creature to be weak and feeble, we indulge in unbelief. Why look we to
that quarter at all? Will you look to the north pole to gather fruits
ripened in the sun? Verily, you would act no more foolishly if ye did
this than when you look to the weak for strength, and to the creature
to do the Creator's work. Let us, then, put the question on the right
footing. The ground of faith is not the sufficiency of the visible
means for the performance of the promise, but the all-sufficiency of
the invisible God, who will most surely do as he hath said. If after
clearly seeing that the onus lies with the Lord and not with the
creature, we dare to indulge in mistrust, the question of God comes
home mightily to us: "Has the Lord's hand waxed short?" May it happen,
too, in his mercy, that with the question there may flash upon our
souls that blessed declaration, "Thou shalt see now whether my word
shall come to pass unto thee or not."

If you do not cut the moorings, God will have to break them by a
storm and send you out. Launch all on God, go out on the great
swelling tide of His purpose, and you will get your eyes open. If you
believe in Jesus, you are not to spend all your time in the smooth
waters just inside the harbour bar, full of delight, but always
moored; you have to get out through the harbour bar into the great
deeps of God and begin to know for yourself, begin to have spiritual
discernment.

When you know you should do a thing, and do it, immediately you know
more. Revise where you have become stodgy spiritually, and you will
find it goes back to a point where there was something you knew you
should do, but you did not do it because there seemed no immediate
call to, and now you have no perception, no discernment; at a time of
crisis you are spiritually distracted instead of spiritually
self-possessed. It is a dangerous thing to refuse to go on knowing.

The counterfeit of obedience is a state of mind in which you work up
occasions to sacrifice your self; ardour is mistaken for discernment.
It is easier to sacrifice yourself than to fulfil your spiritual
destiny, which is stated in Romans 12:1-2. It is a great deal better
to fulfil the purpose of God in your life by discerning His will than
to perform great acts of self-sacrifice. "To obey is better than
sacrifice." Beware of harking back to what you were once when God
wants you to be something you have never been. "If any man will do .
. . he shall know."

Praying with Paul : "Generous for God's Glory"

--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

GENEROUS FOR GOD'S GLORY

2 Corinthians 8:10-15
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+8:10-15

Dear Father,

It is you, my God, who supplies seed for the sower and bread for
food. Multiply my resources and increase the harvest of
righteousness for me and my family. Then give us hearts that are
generous and willing to share with those in need around the world.
May I be a trustworthy channel of your resources, and may you
receive the glory and thanksgiving for all the goodness you
distribute through me. May I glorify you, my God, by my obedience
to the gospel and by my generosity based on its teaching: It is
more blessed to give than to receive.

Let your superlative and surpassing graciousness be seen in me!
Thank you, Lord, for your inexpressible gift to me and all men,
Christ Jesus, the cornucopia of blessings! Thank you, Abba, that my
life can be lived in imitation of your sinless son!

In his name I pray. Amen.

WJD! -- Tender Savior -- Matthew 12:19-21

Tender Savior

"He will not argue or shout; People will not hear his voice
in the streets. He will not break the reed that is already
bent; He will not stop the light that has almost stopped
burning. He will continue until he makes fair judgment win
the victory. All people will hope in him."

-- Matthew 12:19-21 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
While being strong and mighty, Jesus could also be loving and tender.
His role was to be our sacrifice, a sin offering that frees us of guilt
by the shedding of his blood. His resurrection is our assurance of
victory. He will make sure justice triumphs over injustice and we are
given eternal hope through Jesus' victories over the evil one. Once
again, we are reminded that the goal is to let Jesus be our answer and
source of hope, even in mundane matters.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Almighty God, it still amazes me that Jesus would give up his home and
comfort to come to earth and be rejected. Stir within me the same kind
of heart that Jesus had when he faced discouragement. Thank you so very
much for the blessings you have richly poured out on me through Jesus.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Micah 6:8

June 8, 2009

VERSE:
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD
require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly
with your God.

-- Micah 6:8
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Micah+6:8

THOUGHT:
Sometimes what we need to do is very simple and plain, isn't it?
I need to handle those around me justly -- practicing patience and
dealing with others in fairness, without partiality. I need to
practice mercy -- blessing others in need with what they don't
deserve but so greatly need. I need to walk humbly with my Abba
Father -- knowing that without his grace and help I will fail.

PRAYER:
Father, please make of me what you will. As you fashion me,
please bless me as I seek to be a person of justice, mercy, and
humility. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
