Healing a Person Paralyzed by Sin

Healing a Person Paralyzed by Sin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mark 2:1 And He entered again into Capernaum after a few
days, and it was heard that He was at home. 2 And many were
gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even
at the door. And He spoke to them the word. 3 And they came,
bringing to Him a paralytic carried by four men. 4 And being
unable to bring him to Him because of the crowd, they removed
the roof where He was. And when they had dug through, they
lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying. 5 And
Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Child, your
sins are forgiven. 10 But that you may know that the Son of
Man has authority to forgive sins on Earth--he said to the
paralytic, 11 To you I say, Rise, take up your mat and go to
your house. 12 And he rose and immediately took up the mat
and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and
glorified God, saying, We have never seen anything like this!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This paralytic signifies a sinner paralyzed by sin, one who is
unable to walk and move before God. Their zeal in seeking the
Slave-Savior's healing compelled the seekers to break through
the proper barrier--something which might be considered a wild
deed. Then through the roof they lowered the bed, a small
mattress or pad, on which the sick man was lying.

Verse 5 says, "And Jesus, seeing their faith, says to the
paralytic, Child, your sins are forgiven!" This faith, issuing
from hearing the word of Christ (Rom. 10:17), indicates that
the seekers had heard of the Slave-Savior. Seeing their faith,
the Lord called the paralytic a "child." This loving word of
the Slave-Savior implies kindness. Here the Lord's human
virtue was expressed. The Lord said to the paralytic, "Your
sins are forgiven!" Sins were the cause of his sickness. The
Slave-Savior's word here touched the cause so that there might
be a different effect. Once the sins were forgiven, the
sickness was healed.

It is important and meaningful that the first incident in this
section on the carrying out of the gospel service is a case of
forgiving the sins of a sick person. This indicates that in
carrying out the gospel the first thing that must be done is
to help people have their sins forgiven.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Saul's Power 4

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Saul's Power 4
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
"What have you done?" asked Samuel. Saul replied, "When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash, I thought, `Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the LORD's favor.' So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering." 1 Samuel 13:11-12 NIV

Can you say good intentions? Saul thought he was doing the right thing. I mean, he had already waited seven days, right? With the enemy looming around all over the place, they were surely seven very long days. Saul's men were afraid. Saul was most likely afraid. Saul wanted to protect his kingdom. He knew worshipping God was the way to go, so, instead of obeying Samuel's commands, he went ahead with the burnt offering. No big deal, right?

As long as you intend to do right, you don't really have to obey God do you? Isn't it what you wanted to do that really matters? Who is perfect anyway? We can't al ways obey God, can we? Shouldn't Saul be cut a little slack? He was just trying to protect his men.

Yes, Saul had good intentions, but did he have God intentions? God wants commitment to His will. Jesus said, "not my will, but Thy will be done". God certainly wants no less from you and me. He expected obedience from Saul, and he expects it from us.

Sometimes human nature takes over and we act in our own will. Saul felt "compelled" to take things into his own hands. It may seem natural from a world's eye view, but from God's perspective, Saul should have waited for Samuel to arrive.

Is there something you should be waiting on God for today?

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Go to My Brothers and Tell Them, by Phil Ware

She had been there through the whole nightmare. Now that the brutality
was over, she was committed to do the final acts of love to the one she
called her Lord.

Having purchased spices late on Saturday evening after the Sabbath had
ended (Mark 16:1-2), Mary Magdalene and the other women got up before
dawn and made their way in the dusk of morning to the tomb of Jesus.
Upon arriving at the tomb, the women found the stone moved away and the
tomb open and empty (John 20:1).

Mary's mind raced to try to understand what she was seeing. "What had
happened to his body?" "Where have they taken my Lord?"

After alerting Peter and the beloved disciple, Mary Magdalene was left
alone in her grief and confusion:

Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over
to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where
Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?" "They have taken my
Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him."
At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she
did not realize that it was Jesus.

He asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking
for?"

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried
him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

Jesus said to her, "Mary."

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which
means "Teacher").

Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to
the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am
ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen
the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her

(John 20:11-18 TNIV).

This incredible, simple, and touching appearance of the resurrected
Jesus' to Mary Magdalene is filled bits of glory-filled wonder.
Confusion becomes conviction. Horror transforms into hope. Weeping is
replaced by witness!

Mary Magdalene, once terrorized by seven demons (Luke 8:2), is saved
once more by Jesus. Her intended acts of faithful kindness to Jesus'
battered and lifeless body become the turning point of human destiny.
In a time where women were to be neither seen nor heard, the
resurrected Jesus commissions Mary to become the apostle to the
apostles: "Go instead to my brothers and tell them ..." (John 20:17).
Her voice will be the first human voice to proclaim history's most
profound truth: "I have seen the Lord!" (John 20:18).

And for us, the journey of this one woman reveals the marvelous truth
each of us so desperately needs to hear: "You are known. Your tears are
noticed. You are valuable to me. You have a mission."

Is this the most important question we will ever answer?

No matter your gender, no matter your past, no matter your brokenness,
no matter your loss, the resurrected Jesus longs to enter your life as
Lord and give you comfort, hope, community, and purpose. And if you
ever doubt this is true, remember Mary Magdalene and her trip with
spices to an empty tomb.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The following questions are intended for your personal reflection, your
use in a small group or house church, or a discussion with friends. I
would also love to get your reaction on my blog:
http://thephilfiles.com

Since the testimony of women was not trusted or appreciated in Jesus
day (Luke 24:9-11), why do you think that Jesus had Mary Magdalene and
the other women be His first proclaimers of the resurrection?

Mary Magdalene's journey from a woman tormented by demons (Luke 8:1-2)
to the first proclaimer of the good news of Jesus' resurrection is a
powerful story with a wonderful message for each of us. What is God's
message to you, in your situation, in this story?

How does Mary's journey from a woman tormented by demons to the first
person who proclaimed Jesus' resurrection from the dead illustrate the
following two principles in Scripture?

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for
all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor
free, neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs
according to the promise (Galatians 3:26-29).

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The
old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17).

In this important life-story of Mary Magdalene and Jesus, Jesus asks
Mary a very important question: "Who is it that you are seeking?" (John
20:15).

* Is this the most important question we answer when we "go to
church"?

* Is this the most important question we will ever answer?

* How can this question help us in our life's most important
decisions?

Morning & Evening -- Titus 3:4 and 1 Timothy 3:16

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 4, 2009

MORNING:

"The kindness and love of God our Saviour."
-- Titus 3:4

How sweet it is to behold the Saviour communing with his own beloved
people! There can be nothing more delightful than, by the Divine
Spirit, to be led into this fertile field of delight. Let the mind for
an instant consider the history of the Redeemer's love, and a thousand
enchanting acts of affection will suggest themselves, all of which have
had for their design the weaving of the heart into Christ, and the
intertwisting of the thoughts and emotions of the renewed soul with the
mind of Jesus. When we meditate upon this amazing love, and behold the
all-glorious Kinsman of the Church endowing her with all his ancient
wealth, our souls may well faint for joy. Who is he that can endure
such a weight of love? That partial sense of it which the Holy Spirit
is sometimes pleased to afford, is more than the soul can contain; how
transporting must be a complete view of it! When the soul shall have
understanding to discern all the Saviour's gifts, wisdom wherewith to
estimate them, and time in which to meditate upon them, such as the
world to come will afford us, we shall then commune with Jesus in a
nearer manner than at present. But who can imagine the sweetness of
such fellowship? It must be one of the things which have not entered
into the heart of man, but which God hath prepared for them that love
him. Oh, to burst open the door of our Joseph's granaries, and see the
plenty which he hath stored up for us! This will overwhelm us with
love. By faith we see, as in a glass darkly, the reflected image of his
unbounded treasures, but when we shall actually see the heavenly things
themselves, with our own eyes, how deep will be the stream of
fellowship in which our soul shall bathe itself! Till then our loudest
sonnets shall be reserved for our loving benefactor, Jesus Christ our
Lord, whose love to us is wonderful, passing the love of women.

EVENING:

"Received up into glory."
-- 1 Timothy 3:16

We have seen our well-beloved Lord in the days of his flesh, humiliated
and sore vexed; for he was "despised and rejected of men, a man of
sorrows, and acquainted with grief." He whose brightness is as the
morning, wore the sackcloth of sorrow as his daily dress: shame was his
mantle, and reproach was his vesture. Yet now, inasmuch as he has
triumphed over all the powers of darkness upon the bloody tree, our
faith beholds our King returning with dyed garments from Edom, robed in
the splendour of victory. How glorious must he have been in the eyes of
seraphs, when a cloud received him out of mortal sight, and he ascended
up to heaven! Now he wears the glory which he had with God or ever the
earth was, and yet another glory above all-that which he has well
earned in the fight against sin, death, and hell. As victor he wears
the illustrious crown. Hark how the song swells high! It is a new and
sweeter song: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, for he hath redeemed
us unto God by his blood!" He wears the glory of an Intercessor who can
never fail, of a Prince who can never be defeated, of a Conqueror who
has vanquished every foe, of a Lord who has the heart's allegiance of
every subject. Jesus wears all the glory which the pomp of heaven can
bestow upon him, which ten thousand times ten thousand angels can
minister to him. You cannot with your utmost stretch of imagination
conceive his exceeding greatness; yet there will be a further
revelation of it when he shall descend from heaven in great power, with
all the holy angels-"Then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory."
Oh, the splendour of that glory! It will ravish his people's hearts.
Nor is this the close, for eternity shall sound his praise, "Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever!" Reader, if you would joy in
Christ's glory hereafter, he must be glorious in your sight now. Is he
so?

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Never-Failing God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 4, 2009

THE NEVER-FAILING GOD

For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake
thee.

Hebrews 8:5
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+8:5&sr=1

What line does my thought take? Does it turn to what God says or to
what I fear? Am I learning to say not what God says, but to say
something after I have heard what He says? "He hath said, I will
never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The
Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."

"I will in no wise fail thee" - not for all my sin and selfishness
and stubbornness and waywardness. Have I really let God say to me
that He will never fail me? If I have listened to this say-so of
God's, then let me listen again.

"Neither will I in any wise forsake thee." Sometimes it is not
difficulty that makes me think God will forsake me, but drudgery.
There is no Hill Difficulty to climb, no vision given, nothing
wonderful or beautiful, just the commonplace day in and day out - can
I hear God's say-so in these things?

We have the idea that God is going to do some exceptional thing, that
He is preparing and fitting us for some extraordinary thing by and
bye, but as we go on in grace we find that God is glorifying Himself
here and now, in the present minute. If we have God's say-so behind
us, the most amazing strength comes, and we learn to sing in the
ordinary days and ways.

Praying with Paul : "Holy People, Holy Pride"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

HOLY PEOPLE, HOLY PRIDE

2 Corinthians 7:2-10
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+7:2-10

Dear Father, who wills the good of all of your children,

May all your holy people open their hearts to each other. Let us
wrong no one, corrupt no one, take advantage of no one.

Let us have great confidence and pride in one another. Let us
comfort one another. Even in affliction, fill us with joy!

Let us be honest with each other, correcting as necessary. And if
we grieve each other, let mourning be turned to joy because of a
change of attitude flowing from godly grief.

Let our godly grief produce changed hearts and changed lives,
bringing salvation without cause for regret.

In the name of Jesus I come, asking according to his authority.
Amen.

WJD! -- Much More Than a Sheep -- Matthew 12:11-12

Much More Than a Sheep

Jesus answered, "If any of you has a sheep, and the sheep
falls into a ditch on the Sabbath day, then you will take the
sheep and help it out of the ditch. Surely a man is more
important than a sheep. So the law {of Moses} allows people
to do good things on the Sabbath day."

-- Matthew 12:11-12 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Any day set aside to honor God and to bring rest to his people must
recognize the holy worship in blessing others. To rest on the Sabbath
for the Jews did not mean to refrain from any form of labor, but it did
mean to honor God on the day he set aside and to bless his children by
letting them enjoy his rest and praise him. Similarly, everyday for
Christians is to be a day to worship God and to serve others.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Holy God, today I ask for your blessing to be upon those I love who
need your blessing, grace and healing. I know you know them far better
than I, but I ask you to bless them as I bring their names to your
attention ... Father, lead me to those today that you want me to reach
with the grace of Jesus. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Today's Verse : Romans 6:3-4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 4, 2009

VERSE:
Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with
him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may
live a new life.

-- Romans 6:3-4
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+6:3-4

THOUGHT:
Baptism is far more than getting wet or checking off another
thing on our obedience to do list. You see, what saves is Jesus'
death, burial, and resurrection (1 Cor. 15:1-5). God has given us
the incredible grace (Rom. 6:1,14,15) of being able to share in
Jesus' saving work through faith and experience it in baptism (Gal.
3:26-27). We die to the old way of life and bury it in the past. It
no longer holds us. This death is the death that matters most.
Raised to a new life, our life is now joined to Christ and his
future becomes our own (cf. Col. 3:1-4). The life we now live is to
glorify God and to live with him forever. That means the Gospel is
not just something preached; it is something we experience by
grace.

PRAYER:
Thank you Father, for raising me from death to your new life for
me in Jesus. Thank you for your grace in sending Jesus. Thank you
for your grace in making Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection
something I have experienced. May my life reflect your powerful
grace given to me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

VERSE:
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus
Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with
him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.
