Today's Verse : Psalm 104:33-34

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 6, 2009

VERSE:
I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my
God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I
rejoice in the LORD.
-- Psalm 104:33-34
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+104:33-34

THOUGHT:
Do you sing in the shower? What words are on your lips? Singing
is such a wonderful gift! First, it is a gift from God to us, to
help us express our joy, excitement, sorrow, and victory. Second,
it is a gift from us to God, to help us communicate our respect,
appreciation, love, and confidence in God. So let's sing, praising
God for what he has done, proclaiming what he will do, and sharing
what he is currently doing in our lives!

PRAYER:
O God, Father in heaven, even your name is holy. Please exert
your will over my heart, and the hearts of those in our world, so
they more closely reflect your holy character. I trust you, dear
LORD, for the food I need each day. I ask you, Holy Father, to
forgive me as I release my bitterness and anger which I have held
against those who have wounded me -- I will need your help to do
this. Empower me, O God, to resist the temptations and deceptions
of the Evil One. Please make my life a glorious witness to your
grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Being Delivered from Temptation and from the Evil

Being Delivered from Temptation and from the Evil One

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bible Verses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matt.6:13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver
us from the evil one.
1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has taken you except that which
is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow
that you be tempted beyond what you are able, but will, with
the temptation, also make the way out, that you may be able
to endure it.
1 Pet. 5:8 Be sober; watch. Your adversary, the devil, as a
roaring lion , walks about, seeking someone to devour.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words of Ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since the Lord has asked us to pray, we should pray that God
would not bring us into temptation. We do not know when
temptation will come. But we can pray ahead of time that we
not be brought into temptation. This prayer is for our
protection. We are not waiting every day for temptation to
come. Rather, we are praying every day for temptation not to
come. We should ask that we only encounter what the Lord
allows to come upon us and not encounter anything that the
Lord does not allow to come upon us. If we do not pray this
way, we will not be able to withstand temptation for a
moment; we will not be able to accomplish anything. We must
ask the Lord to not bring us into any temptation, not
allowing us to encounter anyone that we should not encounter
nor to come across anything that we should not come across.
This is a protective prayer.

Not only do we have to ask God not to bring us into
temptation, but we also have to ask Him to deliver us from
the evil one. This is a positive prayer. No matter where
Satan puts his hand, we have to ask the Lord to deliver us
from the evil one. In other words, we pray that we not fall
into the hand of the evil one in anything. In reading Matthew
8 and 9, we find that Satans hands are beyond what we expect
and know. They are hidden behind the fever which comes
suddenly upon a persons body (8:14) and the storm which
rises suddenly from the sea (8:24). They cause the demons to
attach themselves to men and drown the pigs (8:28-32). They
work within mans heart and cause him to reject and oppose
the Lord for no reason at all (9:3, 11). In short, Satan is
out to harm man and inflict suffering on man. Therefore, we
have to pray that we will be delivered from the evil one.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: New Year 1

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
New Year 1
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Acts 13:38 NIV

My goal through these devotions is to leave you with thoughts that encourage and challenge you, that lift you up and make you whole. My goal is to expand upon the Word of God in such a way, that you, the reader, see a part of God that makes you love Him more than you ever have before. Today, I need to share with you something incredibly important. I want to make sure you know how to be saved!

You do know that God loves you. From the beginning of Creation, which God perfectly spoke into existence, God has loved mankind. The relationship God intended, however, was broken by sin. When sin entered into the hearts of man, a separation occurred between man and God. God being Holy, or absent of sin, could not accept even slight unrighteousness.

Thankfully, God loved us enough to make a way for us to come to Him. Having already established that the shedding of blood would be an acceptable sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin, God sent His only Son, born of a virgin, sinless, to die on the cross. His shed blood paid in full our sin debt.

Oh, but that is not enough. Since God gave man the ability to reject Him by sinning, man must now accept God's remedy for sin. Therefore, we receive salvation by our faith in Jesus Christ, the only way a sinful man can ever reach a Holy God.

Let me ask you, if you died today would you spend an eternity in Heaven? And, if your answer is yes, let me ask you why? Why would God allow you into Heaven? There is only one answer that will do: it is your faith in Jesus that grants you salvation. Have you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior?

If not, do so today! Tell Jesus you trust Him and Him alone as your Savior. You will indeed find the encouragement, the challenge, the joy, the victory and the wholeness of life that you have never known before. And if you are already Christians, pray for those who have yet to believe!

Morning & Evening -- Genesis 1:4 and Genesis 1:4

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 5, 2009

MORNING:

"And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the
light from the darkness."
-- Genesis 1:4

Light might well be good since it sprang from that fiat of goodness,
"Let there be light." We who enjoy it should be more grateful for it
than we are, and see more of God in it and by it. Light physical is
said by Solomon to be sweet, but gospel light is infinitely more
precious, for it reveals eternal things, and ministers to our immortal
natures. When the Holy Spirit gives us spiritual light, and opens our
eyes to behold the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ, we behold
sin in its true colours, and ourselves in our real position; we see the
Most Holy God as he reveals himself, the plan of mercy as he propounds
it, and the world to come as the Word describes it. Spiritual light has
many beams and prismatic colours, but whether they be knowledge, joy,
holiness, or life, all are divinely good. If the light received be thus
good, what must the essential light be, and how glorious must be the
place where he reveals himself. O Lord, since light is so good, give us
more of it, and more of thyself, the true light.

No sooner is there a good thing in the world, than a division is
necessary. Light and darkness have no communion; God has divided them,
let us not confound them. Sons of light must not have fellowship with
deeds, doctrines, or deceits of darkness. The children of the day must
be sober, honest, and bold in their Lord's work, leaving the works of
darkness to those who shall dwell in it for ever. Our Churches should
by discipline divide the light from the darkness, and we should by our
distinct separation from the world do the same. In judgment, in action,
in hearing, in teaching, in association, we must discern between the
precious and the vile, and maintain the great distinction which the
Lord made upon the world's first day. O Lord Jesus, be thou our light
throughout the whole of this day, for thy light is the light of men.

EVENING:

"And God saw the light."
-- Genesis 1:4

This morning we noticed the goodness of the light, and the Lord's
dividing it from the darkness, we now note the special eye which the
Lord had for the light. "God saw the light"-he looked at it with
complacency, gazed upon it with pleasure, saw that it "was good." If
the Lord has given you light, dear reader, he looks on that light with
peculiar interest; for not only is it dear to him as his own handiwork,
but because it is like himself, for "He is light." Pleasant it is to
the believer to know that God's eye is thus tenderly observant of that
work of grace which he has begun. He never loses sight of the treasure
which he has placed in our earthen vessels. Sometimes we cannot see the
light, but God always sees the light, and that is much better than our
seeing it. Better for the judge to see my innocence than for me to
think I see it. It is very comfortable for me to know that I am one of
God's people-but whether I know it or not, if the Lord knows it, I am
still safe. This is the foundation, "The Lord knoweth them that are
his." You may be sighing and groaning because of inbred sin, and
mourning over your darkness, yet the Lord sees "light" in your heart,
for he has put it there, and all the cloudiness and gloom of your soul
cannot conceal your light from his gracious eye. You may have sunk low
in despondency, and even despair; but if your soul has any longing
towards Christ, and if you are seeking to rest in his finished work,
God sees the "light." He not only sees it, but he also preserves it in
you. "I, the Lord, do keep it." This is a precious thought to those
who, after anxious watching and guarding of themselves, feel their own
powerlessness to do so. The light thus preserved by his grace, he will
one day develop into the splendour of noonday, and the fulness of
glory. The light within is the dawn of the eternal day.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Afterwards Of The Life Of Power"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

January 5, 2009

THE AFTERWARDS OF THE LIFE OF POWER

Whither I go, thou canst not follow Me now; but thou
shalt follow Me afterwards.

John 13:36
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=joh+13:36&sr=1

"And when He had spoken this, He saith unto him, Follow Me." Three
years before, Jesus had said - "Follow Me," and Peter had followed
easily, the fascination of Jesus was upon him, he did not need the
Holy Spirit to help him to do it. Then he came to the place where he
denied Jesus, and his heart broke. Then he received the Holy Spirit,
and now Jesus says again - "Follow Me." There is no figure in front
now saving the Lord Jesus Christ. The first "Follow Me" had nothing
mystical in it, it was an external following; now it is a following
in internal martyrdom (cf. John 21:18).

Between these times Peter had denied Jesus with oaths and curses, he
had come to the end of himself and all his self-sufficiency, there
was not one strand of himself he would ever rely upon again, and in
his destitution he was in a fit condition to receive an impartation
from the risen Lord. "He breathed on them, and saith unto them,
Receive ye the Holy Ghost." No matter what changes God has wrought in
you, never rely upon them, build only on a Person, the Lord Jesus
Christ, and on the Spirit He gives.

All our vows and resolutions end in denial because we have no power
to carry them out. When we have come to the end of ourselves, not in
imagination but really, we are able to receive the Holy Spirit.
"Receive ye the Holy Ghost" - the idea is that of invasion. There is
only one lodestar in the life now, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Praying with Paul : "God's Honor"

GOD'S HONOR

Romans 1:18-23
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+1:18-23

Dear Father, to whom all honor and glory is due,

How sorry I am that men do not honor you as their God and King! It
is to their loss and to their hurt, but it insults you! They
wickedly suppress the truth. Through creation, you have shown them
plainly what can be known about you, so they are without excuse.
Although they know of you, the true God, they do not honor you as
God or give thanks to you as God. Their thinking is futile and
their senseless minds are darkened. Claiming to be wise, they
become fools and exchange your glory, the glory of the immortal
God, for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or
reptiles.

How awful is your judgment! Because they exchange the truth about
you for a lie and worship and serve the creature rather than you,
the Creator, the holy God, who is blessed for ever, you give them
up to the lusts of their impure hearts, to dishonor their bodies
among themselves.

May I never be so foolish as to trade your glory for my own. In
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, creator and sustainer of the
universe. Amen.
