Today's Verse : Psalm 90:14

VERSE:
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may
sing for joy and be glad all our days.
-- Psalm 90:14

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Psalm+90:14

THOUGHT:
What's the secret of having a good day? How about waking up and
recognizing that we begin each day just as we ended the previous
one -- we are in the grip of God's unfailing love. That should make
our hearts stir with love and our voices sing with joy. This song
should stir God's Spirit within us and lead us to a deep and
profound thanksgiving that gladdens all of our days. So rather than
waking up tired, cranky, and dreading another day, let this day
with a reminder of God's grace in our daily lives and a reminder of
God's promises in our hearts. Then, I don't think we're going to
have any problem singing the rest of the day!

PRAYER:
Glorious Master and Eternal Father, thank you for pouring your
love and joy into my heart through your Holy Spirit. Fill my heart
and satisfy my life with a sense of your abiding and unfailing
love. In the name of my loving Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thought: One Glimpse 2

For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased." 2 Peter 1:17 NIV

Peter remembered the time on the mountain with Jesus like no other time in his life. It had become a passion for him, giving him courage to face the trials of life, because he knew that he would one day see his Jesus again, face to face.

Imagine the thrill in Peter's heart when he heard God's praise of Jesus. Sure he had seen Jesus perform miracles, he had even walked on water with Jesus, but to Peter, Jesus was also a good friend. Together they had no doubt fished, shared a few laughs, hung out with friends, attended a wedding, and fed a few thousand people. Peter knew Jesus was special, but now, here was God, the Creator, speaking from Heaven, assigning glory and honor to Peter's good friend Jesus. In the Old Testament days, very few had ever heard God's voice, now Peter not only hears God, but his friend gets the nod of approval! Do you think Peter respected Jesus a bit more from that day forward?

That mountain top experience changed Peter forever. So much was the change that Peter wants you and I today to know that Jesus is worthy of all your trust! Take it from Peter. He has seen the end, and it looks good!

Real good!

For the Christian, nothing less than the presence of the Spirit
is enough to explain the marvelous changes worked in human
lives. Call it grace; call it providence; call it the result of
Bible study ... just so we understand that in and behind any or
all the instruments is the presence and work of the Spirit who
seeks and finds and transforms.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Checking Off Boxes?, by Russ Lawson

We need to be careful to avoid a "checking off boxes" approach to our
faith!

What am I talking about? Let me explain.

When most of us were being raised, our parents tried to teach us to say
"Thank you!" to people when we were given something. If we forgot, they
would ask, "What do you say?" Our response would be something like,
"Oh! I forgot! Thank you!"

We checked off the box. Our obligation was finished. Our parents were
pleased. We offered thanks because we were expected to do so, not
because it was the right thing or the heartfelt thing. I'm afraid that
many of us have carried that concept over to adulthood also and do it
only to check off the box, not because we really spend time being
thankful.

We are not unlike my 5 year old grandson who we had with us this past
Sunday afternoon. He spent the day enjoying playing games and making
crafts with grandma and wrestling a little with me. An interesting
discussion took place between us that afternoon.

Christopher has been trying to save money for a special toy he wants.
His parents have given him a list of chores to do, and as he does them,
he checks off a box on a list to show he has done what is required of
him. If he checks off the boxes, he gets a quarter for an "allowance"
which he deposits in his "treasure chest."

Knowing that he is diligently trying to save for this special toy, late
in the afternoon I reached into my pocket and pulled out a quarter and
said, "Here Christopher, put this in your treasure chest for your toy."

He looked at the quarter for a moment and said, "No thank you."

I asked, "Why not?"

He replied, "Because I have to do my chores and check off the box to
get a quarter and I haven't done my chores."

You don't have to work for it!

I said, "That's OK, this is just a special gift for you."

Again he replied, "No thank you."

I then tried to explain that this was like a birthday present, you
don't have to work for it, someone gives it to you just because they
love you and want to give you a gift. He thought about it for a moment
and said, "OK!" He then asked, "Do I still get to check off a box?"

To say that God has been good to us would be an understatement!
Unfortunately, we often forget to be thankful. Sometimes we even
overlook the Source of our blessings. I fear that even when we do
happen to remember to offer thanks to God, many times it is only to
check off a box on our list of things to do to please God. We almost
see God as the parent who reminds us in our forgetfulness, "Now what do
you need to say?" So to check off our box and to get our parent off our
back, we say our, "Thank you!"

Thanksgiving, however, is our response to the overflow of grace God has
poured into our lives when we allow Jesus to be our Lord. The apostle
Paul describes it this way:

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must
continue to live in obedience to him. Let your roots grow down into
him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith,
strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives
overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done (Colossians 2:6-7).

My prayer is that you give God thanks in response to the overflow of
His grace and not to just simply check off some box on your heavenly
chores to-do list!

Morning & Evening -- Lamentations 3:58 and Proverbs 30:26

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

MORNING:

"0 Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul."
-- Lamentations 3:58

Observe how positively the prophet speaks. He doth not say, "I hope, I
trust, I sometimes think, that God hath pleaded the causes of my soul";
but he speaks of it as a matter of fact not to be disputed. "Thou hast
pleaded the causes of my soul." Let us, by the aid of the gracious
Comforter, shake off those doubts and fears which so much mar our peace
and comfort. Be this our prayer, that we may have done with the harsh
croaking voice of surmise and suspicion, and may be able to speak with
the clear, melodious voice of full assurance. Notice how gratefully the
prophet speaks, ascribing all the glory to God alone! You perceive
there is not a word concerning himself or his own pleadings. He doth
not ascribe his deliverance in any measure to any man, much less to his
own merit; but it is "thou"-"O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my
soul; thou hast redeemed my life." A grateful spirit should ever be
cultivated by the Christian; and especially after deliverances we
should prepare a song for our God. Earth should be a temple filled with
the songs of grateful saints, and every day should be a censor smoking
with the sweet incense of thanksgiving. How joyful Jeremiah seems to be
while he records the Lord's mercy. How triumphantly he lifts up the
strain! He has been in the low dungeon, and is even now no other than
the weeping prophet; and yet in the very book which is called
"Lamentations," clear as the song of Miriam when she dashed her fingers
against the tabor, shrill as the note of Deborah when she met Barak
with shouts of victory, we hear the voice of Jeremy going up to
heaven-"Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my
life." O children of God, seek after a vital experience of the Lord's
lovingkindness, and when you have it, speak positively of it; sing
gratefully; shout triumphantly.

EVENING:

"The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses
in the rocks."
-- Proverbs 30:26

Conscious of their own natural defencelessness, the conies resort to
burrows in the rocks, and are secure from their enemies. My heart, be
willing to gather a lesson from these feeble folk. Thou art as weak and
as exposed to peril as the timid cony, be as wise to seek a shelter. My
best security is within the munitions of an immutable Jehovah, where
his unalterable promises stand like giant walls of rock. It will be
well with thee, my heart, if thou canst always hide thyself in the
bulwarks of his glorious attributes, all of which are guarantees of
safety for those who put their trust in him. Blessed be the name of the
Lord, I have so done, and have found myself like David in Adullam, safe
from the cruelty of my enemy; I have not now to find out the
blessedness of the man who puts his trust in the Lord, for long ago,
when Satan and my sins pursued me, I fled to the cleft of the rock
Christ Jesus, and in his riven side I found a delightful resting-place.
My heart, run to him anew to-night, whatever thy present grief may be;
Jesus feels for thee; Jesus consoles thee; Jesus will help thee. No
monarch in his impregnable fortress is more secure than the cony in his
rocky burrow. The master of ten thousand chariots is not one whit
better protected than the little dweller in the mountain's cleft. In
Jesus the weak are strong, and the defenceless safe; they could not be
more strong if they were giants, or more safe if they were in heaven.
Faith gives to men on earth the protection of the God of heaven. More
they cannot need, and need not wish. The conies cannot build a castle,
but they avail themselves of what is there already: I cannot make
myself a refuge, but Jesus has provided it, his Father has given it,
his Spirit has revealed it, and lo, again to-night I enter it, and am
safe from every foe.

My Utmost For His Highest : "The Forgiveness Of God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

November 20, 2007

THE FORGIVENESS OF GOD

In whom we have ... the forgiveness of sins.

Ephesians 1:7

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=eph+1:7&sr=1

Beware of the pleasant view of the Fatherhood of God - God is so kind
and loving that of course He will forgive us. That sentiment has no
place whatever in the New Testament. The only ground on which God can
forgive us is the tremendous tragedy of the Cross of Christ; to put
forgiveness on any other ground is unconscious blasphemy. The only
ground on which God can forgive sin and reinstate us in His favour is
through the Cross of Christ, and in no other way. Forgiveness, which
is so easy for us to accept, cost the agony of Calvary. It is
possible to take the forgiveness of sin, the gift of the Holy Ghost,
and our sanctification with the simplicity of faith, and to forget at
what enormous cost to God it was all made ours.

Forgiveness is the divine miracle of grace; it cost God the Cross of
Jesus Christ before He could forgive sin and remain a holy God. Never
accept a view of the Fatherhood of God if it blots out the Atonement.
The revelation of God is that He cannot forgive; He would contradict
His nature if He did. The only way we can be forgiven is by being
brought back to God by the Atonement. God's forgiveness is only
natural in the supernatural domain.

Compared with the miracle of the forgiveness of sin, the experience
of sanctification is slight. Sanctification is simply the marvellous
expression of the forgiveness of sins in a human life, but the thing
that awakens the deepest well of gratitude in a human being is that
God has forgiven sin. Paul never got away from this. When once you
realize all that it cost God to forgive you, you will be held as in a
vice, constrained by the love of God.

Praying with Paul : "One in Spirit"

\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

ONE IN SPIRIT

Philippians 2:3-11

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+2:3-11

Dear Father, One God of your one holy people,

Help all of us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain
conceit, but in humility help us count each other better than
ourselves.

May we look out for the interests of each other, not just our own.

Let our attitude be the same as was in Christ Jesus, who made
himself nothing and obeyed you, our Father, even in the matter of
dying.

Help me humbly and obediently to exalt Jesus, even as you have
exalted him and given him a name that is above every name, that
every knee should bow and every tongue confess - to the glory of
you, our God and our Father.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the source of our unity and
salvation, I ask these things. Amen.

WJD! -- No Marriage? -- Luke 20:34-40

No Marriage?

Jesus said to the Sadducees, "On earth, people marry each
other. Some people will be worthy to be raised from death and
live again after this life. In that life they will not marry.
In that life people are like angels and cannot die. They are
children of God, because they have been raised from death.
Moses clearly showed that people are raised from death. When
Moses wrote about the burning bush, he said that the Lord is
'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'
{If God said he is their God, then} these men are not really
dead. He is God only of living people. All people that belong
to God are alive." Some of the teachers of the law said,
"Teacher, your answer was very good." No person was brave
enough to ask him another question.

-- Luke 20:34-40 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
No marriage in heaven? Some folks worry about this. Jesus' point,
however, is that every relationship is raised to a new level and we
find a heightened and holy existence that far transcends anything we
can experience or even imagine here and so marriage will not be an
issue for us. Just remember, good things await us in the presence of
God with whom we will spend forever.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, thank you for a bright and shining future with you that is far
better than anything I can imagine, much less understand. I await your
future with joyous expectation. In Jesus' name. Amen.
