In the final analysis our great problem with holiness is not
that our concepts of holiness are feeble, but that our hearts
are rebellious. We are selfish, that's our problem. And the
fact that we often won't admit our selfishness shows how deep
the pride goes.

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

I Just Wanted to Get Out Alive, by Steve Ridgell

It was a duck hunting trip gone bad. It happened one Thanksgiving
several years ago. Mark, a close family friend, my son (then around
eleven years old), and I were hunting on land owned by some of Mark's
family. It was full of creeks and sloughs, and Mark had hunted on it
for years. It was a fairly warm afternoon when we started out, and we
were able to shoot several ducks. It was late afternoon when the storm
blew in: torrential rain and a rapid drop in temperature.

I had not thought much about that day in several years. But when Mark
called the other day and mentioned it ... all the memories came
flooding back. I remember how dark it immediately got, and how wet we
were. I remember worrying about how cold we were getting. The creek
quickly overflowed and in just a few minutes, we were in trouble. We
had gotten lost. Darkness took away the landmarks, rain obscured
everything, and the overflowing water all looked the same.

We had decided that if we could not find the trail back to camp, we
would dig in under some leaves, put my son between us and hope to
survive the night. We thought we were close to finding the way out but
it was too dark and too hard to see. We had just decided to give up and
try to ride out the storm when a lightening bolt split the sky. And
there it was ... the trail was not fifteen yards in front of us. We
still had a rough time getting out; we had some creeks to wade, and a
hard walk ... but we made it out alive and we survived.

We were asking God's help and protection. And we give God the credit
for the lightening bolt that showed us the way home. I believe it is by
His mercy that we survived. But there are lessons I need to remember
about my relationship with God that I learned in that storm. There are
lessons about life I need to remember.

It was my fault we got caught in that storm. I did not check the
weather report, we did not dress appropriately, and I did not have
matches, compass, or flashlight. Life is like that sometimes. Storms
come when we do not expect them. And they come when we are not prepared
for them. Many times I have to face the fact that the storms of life
are my fault. I don't always think things through, I am not always
prepared, and I do not see trouble coming.

God's deliverance is not just a conviction. It is a reality.

Yet God delivered me. He did it on that day, but even more amazing, he
has delivered me in life. I have hope, joy, peace, and purpose because
God has chosen to save me. Storms still come in my life, just like they
do in yours. I face them with confidence because I trust God to deliver
me safe. He has before, and He will again.

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 54:5 and Song of Solomon 5:1

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

MORNING:

"Thy Redeemer."
-- Isaiah 54:5

Jesus, the Redeemer, is altogether ours and ours for ever. All the
offices of Christ are held on our behalf. He is king for us, priest for
us, and prophet for us. Whenever we read a new title of the Redeemer,
let us appropriate him as ours under that name as much as under any
other. The shepherd's staff, the father's rod, the captain's sword, the
priest's mitre, the prince's sceptre, the prophet's mantle, all are
ours. Jesus hath no dignity which he will not employ for our
exaltation, and no prerogative which he will not exercise for our
defence. His fulness of Godhead is our unfailing, inexhaustible
treasure-house.

His manhood also, which he took upon him for us, is ours in all its
perfection. To us our gracious Lord communicates the spotless virtue of
a stainless character; to us he gives the meritorious efficacy of a
devoted life; on us he bestows the reward procured by obedient
submission and incessant service. He makes the unsullied garment of his
life our covering beauty; the glittering virtues of his character our
ornaments and jewels; and the superhuman meekness of his death our
boast and glory. He bequeaths us his manger, from which to learn how
God came down to man; and his Cross to teach us how man may go up to
God. All his thoughts, emotions, actions, utterances, miracles, and
intercessions, were for us. He trod the road of sorrow on our behalf,
and hath made over to us as his heavenly legacy the full results of all
the labours of his life. He is now as much ours as heretofore; and he
blushes not to acknowledge himself "our Lord Jesus Christ," though he
is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of
lords. Christ everywhere and every way is our Christ, for ever and ever
most richly to enjoy. O my soul, by the power of the Holy Spirit! call
him this morning, "thy Redeemer."

EVENING:

"I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse."
-- Song of Solomon 5:1

The heart of the believer is Christ's garden. He bought it with his
precious blood, and he enters it and claims it as his own. A garden
implies separation. It is not the open common; it is not a wilderness;
it is walled around, or hedged in. Would that we could see the wall of
separation between the church and the world made broader and stronger.
It makes one sad to hear Christians saying, "Well, there is no harm in
this; there is no harm in that," thus getting as near to the world as
possible. Grace is at a low ebb in that soul which can even raise the
question of how far it may go in worldly conformity. A garden is a
place of beauty, it far surpasses the wild uncultivated lands. The
genuine Christian must seek to be more excellent in his life than the
best moralist, because Christ's garden ought to produce the best
flowers in all the world. Even the best is poor compared with Christ's
deservings; let us not put him off with withering and dwarf plants. The
rarest, richest, choicest lilies and roses ought to bloom in the place
which Jesus calls his own. The garden is a place of growth. The saints
are not to remain undeveloped, always mere buds and blossoms. We should
grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ. Growth should be rapid where Jesus is the Husbandman, and the
Holy Spirit the dew from above. A garden is a place of retirement. So
the Lord Jesus Christ would have us reserve our souls as a place in
which he can manifest himself, as he doth not unto the world. O that
Christians were more retired, that they kept their hearts more closely
shut up for Christ! We often worry and trouble ourselves, like Martha,
with much serving, so that we have not the room for Christ that Mary
had, and do not sit at his feet as we should. The Lord grant the sweet
showers of his grace to water his garden this day.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Don't Think Now, Take The Road"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 18, 2008

DON'T THINK NOW, TAKE THE ROAD

And Peter ... walked on the water to go to Jesus. But
when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid.

Matthew 14:29-30

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=mt+14:29-30&sr=1

The wind was actually boisterous, the waves were actually high, but
Peter did not see them at first. He did not reckon with them, he
simply recognized his Lord and stepped out in recognition of Him, and
walked on the water. Then he began to reckon with the actual things,
and down he went instantly. Why could not our Lord have enabled him
to walk at the bottom of the waves as well as on the top of them?
Neither could be done saving by recognition of the Lord Jesus.

We step right out on God over some things, then self-consideration
enters in and down we go. If you are recognizing your Lord, you have
no business with where He engineers your circumstances. The actual
things are, but immediately you look at them you are overwhelmed, you
cannot recognize Jesus, and the rebuke comes: "Wherefore didst thou
doubt?" Let actual circumstances be what they may, keep recognizing
Jesus, maintain complete reliance on Him.

If you debate for a second when God has spoken, it is all up. Never
begin to say - "Well, I wonder if He did speak?" Be reckless
immediately, fling it all out on Him. You do not know when His voice
will come, but whenever the realization of God comes in the faintest
way imaginable, recklessly abandon. It is only by abandon that you
recognize Him. You will only realize His voice more clearly by
recklessness.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Bible Plan 2

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Bible Plan 2
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty. Jeremiah 15:16 NIV

Reading the Bible helps you get to know the God who made you! It helps build a relationship with your Creator.

Many years ago I went through a very difficult time in my life. I received lots of advise, but the best was to make sure I was reading Gods Word everyday. I was at a point in my spiritual life where I had established a daily Bible reading habit, so at first I didnt think much for the advise. As the days got darker in my life, the Bible reading became more of a chore. To be very honest, I didnt really feel like reading my Bible. I hate to admit it, but I really didnt think it mattered at that point.

Still, I kept the habit going, not expecting much in return. For about thirty days my Bible reading was miserable. If it were not for the commitment I had made to myself, I wouldnt have done it each day. About the second month, however, Gods Word began to take a whole new meaning in my life! Soon it was all I wanted to do! Gods Word, the same Word that I used to think couldnt speak to me any longer, slowly became the most solid source of strength in my life. I realized that by reading the Bible I had built a better relationship with God. It wasnt necessarily the habit of reading the Bible as much as it was the relationship I built out of that habit, which had become my strength.

Are you going through something today that is tearing you down emotionally, physically, or spiritually? Maybe you dont necessarily feel like reading Gods Word. I want to ask you to consider reading it any way. Read it until it begins to feel good again!

Praying with Paul : "Boasting in Weaknesses"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

BOASTING IN WEAKNESSES

2 Corinthians 11:6-10

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Corinthians+11:6-10

Dear Father, whose power is made perfect in weakness,

Even though certain things are true, keep me from saying them if
they would not be received in the right way-if people would think
me out of place, perhaps mad, or if they might think more of me
than I deserve. Sometimes there are things that I want, but one
thing you have taught: Your grace is sufficient for me. Your power
is made perfect in weakness.

Help me therefore to boast in my weaknesses, that the power of
Christ may rest upon me.

For the sake of Christ, help me to put up with whatever I must
bear, for when I am weak in him, then I am strong. Let me live
according to your will, close to your heart of love.

In the name of Jesus I pray, seeking the strength that comes only
from being weak in you. Amen.

Preparing His Disciples

Then Jesus and his followers left that place. They went
through Galilee. Jesus did not want the people to know where
they were. Jesus wanted to teach his followers alone. Jesus
said to them, "The Son of Man will be given to people that
will kill him. After three days, he will rise from death."

-- Mark 9:30-31 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' time is short. He knows he must invest his time wisely. He knows
he must prepare his key followers for what lies ahead. He must
reproduce his influence, teaching, and ministry. So he withdraws to
teach the closest followers, his key followers, personally.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, give me wisdom to know best how to invest my time and in whom I
should invest it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Verse : 2 Chronicles 6:18

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT --

http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

June 18, 2008

VERSE:
"But will God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even
the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple
I have built!"
-- 2 Chronicles 6:18

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=2+Chronicles+6:18

THOUGHT:
As Solomon dedicated the Temple, he realized that this
tremendous accomplishment of great beauty was far too insignificant
and small to house the Creator of the Universe. But, God did choose
to dwell with mortals. That is what the life of Jesus is about
(John 1:11-18). God is awesome and beyond description, far too holy
to be expected to associate with flawed human beings. As God,
however, he has chosen to love us and come and live with us so we
can return to him and share in his glory.

PRAYER:
Almighty God and Sovereign Father, you are more magnificent than
my words can describe and more gracious than my heart can fully
grasp. Thank you for your glory that is beyond human comprehension
and your grace that bridges the awesome distance between us. Thank
you, dear Father, for being God. In Jesus' name I praise. Amen.
