Mustard Seed Thoughts: Outcast

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Outcast
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
hen He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace." Luke 8:48 NIV

The woman had been subject to years of bleeding; twelve years to be exact. She had given up all hope of being made well. Many had tried to heal her, so she must have been a woman of means. She had struggled with her illness in a land that was not accepting to the sick.

An outcast in society, wasting away, the woman heard about a man named Jesus who was coming to town. The stories told that this man Jesus had power to heal. With any strength she had left, she made her way through the crowd. "If I can just touch His garment", she thought as she sneaked up behind our Lord. Reaching out her hand, she gripped, just barely, the hem of His garment. Immediately the woman was healed!

Twelve years of heartache........One touch and it was over!

Not only that, but Jesus welcomed her into the family by calling her "Daughter". He then sent her away in peace. She was sav ed....and accepted by God! A woman who hadn't known peace for twelve years, now had a new life ahead of her! Redemption had come!

Today, right now, you and I have access to that same peace. You and I can enter into the presence of our Savior, by faith, and have Him minister to our spirits. We can be called the sons and daughters of the Father.

Grab hold of His garment today! Cling hard to Jesus! Let Him heal you today!

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 53:5 and 2 Samuel 21:10

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

MORNING:

"With his stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5

Pilate delivered our Lord to the lictors to be scourged. The Roman
scourge was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the
sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were inter-twisted every here and there
among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of
bone inflicted fearful laceration, and tore off the flesh from the
bone. The Saviour was, no doubt, bound to the column, and thus beaten.
He had been beaten before; but this of the Roman lictors was probably
the most severe of his flagellations. My soul, stand here and weep over
his poor stricken body.

Believer in Jesus, can you gaze upon him without tears, as he stands
before you the mirror of agonizing love? He is at once fair as the lily
for innocence, and red as the rose with the crimson of his own blood.
As we feel the sure and blessed healing which his stripes have wrought
in us, does not our heart melt at once with love and grief? If ever we
have loved our Lord Jesus, surely we must feel that affection glowing
now within our bosoms.

"See how the patient Jesus stands,
Insulted in his lowest case!
Sinners have bound the Almighty's hands,
And spit in their Creator's face.
With thorns his temples gor'd and gash'd
Send streams of blood from every part;
His back's with knotted scourges lash'd.
But sharper scourges tear his heart."

We would fain go to our chambers and weep; but since our business calls
us away, we will first pray our Beloved to print the image of his
bleeding self upon the tablets of our hearts all the day, and at
nightfall we will return to commune with him, and sorrow that our sin
should have cost him so dear.

EVENING:

"And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it
for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until
water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither
the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of
the field by night."
-- 2 Samuel 21:10

If the love of a woman to her slain sons could make her prolong her
mournful vigil for so long a period, shall we weary of considering the
sufferings of our blessed Lord? She drove away the birds of prey, and
shall not we chase from our meditations those worldly and sinful
thoughts which defile both our minds and the sacred themes upon which
we are occupied? Away, ye birds of evil wing! Leave ye the sacrifice
alone! She bore the heats of summer, the night dews and the rains,
unsheltered and alone. Sleep was chased from her weeping eyes: her
heart was too full for slumber. Behold how she loved her children!
Shall Rizpah thus endure, and shall we start at the first little
inconvenience or trial? Are we such cowards that we cannot bear to
suffer with our Lord? She chased away even the wild beasts, with
courage unusual in her sex, and will not we be ready to encounter every
foe for Jesus' sake? These her children were slain by other hands than
hers, and yet she wept and watched: what ought we to do who have by our
sins crucified our Lord? Our obligations are boundless, our love should
be fervent and our repentance thorough. To watch with Jesus should be
our business, to protect his honour our occupation, to abide by his
cross our solace. Those ghastly corpses might well have affrighted
Rizpah, especially by night, but in our Lord, at whose cross-foot we
are sitting, there is nothing revolting, but everything attractive.
Never was living beauty so enchanting as a dying Saviour. Jesus, we
will watch with thee yet awhile, and do thou graciously unveil thyself
to us; then shall we not sit beneath sackcloth, but in a royal
pavilion.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Heedfulness V. Hypocrisy In Ourselves"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 31, 2009

HEEDFULNESS V. HYPOCRISY IN OURSELVES

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto
death, he shall ask, and He shall give him Life for them
that sin not unto death.

1 John 5:16
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1jo+5:16&sr=1

If we are not heedful of the way the Spirit of God works in us, we
will become spiritual hypocrites. We see where other folks are
failing, and we turn our discernment into the gibe of criticism
instead of into intercession on their behalf. The revelation is made
to us not through the acuteness of our minds, but by the direct
penetration of the Spirit of God, and if we are not heedful of the
source of the revelation, we will become criticizing centres and
forget that God says - ". . . he shall ask, and He shall give him
life for them that sin not unto death." Take care lest you play the
hypocrite by spending all your time trying to get others right before
you worship God yourself.

One of the subtlest burdens God ever puts on us as saints is this
burden of discernment concerning other souls. He reveals things in
order that we may take the burden of these souls before Him and form
the mind of Christ about them, and as we intercede on His line, God
says He will give us "life for them that sin not unto death." It is
not that we bring God into touch with our minds, but that we rouse
ourselves until God is able to convey His mind to us about the one
for whom we intercede.

Is Jesus Christ seeing of the travail of His soul in us? He cannot
unless we are so identified with Himself that we are roused up to get
His view about the people for whom we pray. May we learn to intercede
so whole-heartedly that Jesus Christ will be abundantly satisfied
with us as intercessors.

Praying with Paul : "Christ's Admonition"

CHRIST'S ADMONITION

1 Corinthians 4:14-21
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+4:14-21

Dear Father, king of the ages,

I am proud to be your child, and I want to listen carefully to
your admonition. Help me to listen to you through the words of my
spiritual fathers in the faith, your apostles. May I imitate them!

Remind me of their ways in Christ. From them and through them may
I learn that the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in
power.

Come to me, Lord, to chasten me and change me. But please show
your love in a spirit of gentleness, rather than with the fierce
rod of your anger.

I renounce all egotistical thinking and all arrogant talk. I turn
my heart and mind toward you and submit my life! You, Father, are
my God, my Lord, my Savior! You are worthy of all my love and
obedience.

In the name of Jesus I submit to your authority and ask your
blessings to continue forever. Amen.

WJD! -- Bottom Line! -- Matthew 7:28-29

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / WHAT JESUS DID! -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Bottom Line!

When Jesus finished saying these things, the people were
amazed at his teaching. Jesus did not teach like their
teachers of the law. Jesus taught like a person that had
authority (power).

-- Matthew 7:28-29 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
That's the point. Jesus is not like the teachers of the Law. They're
expertise came from knowing the many different interpretations of the
Jewish Law over the years. Jesus comes and teaches us the heart of
God's will in the Sermon on the Mount. It's the heart of the matter
taught by one with all authority. This is not only truth, but it is the
livable truth of God. You see, Jesus is more than Teacher, he is Master
and Lord. His word is authoritative! So let's live it

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Loving and sacrificial Father, thank you for sending Jesus to be your
living message and your authoritative Word. Bless me and please change
me as I try to live out that authoritative message in my life. Give me
strength, courage, and integrity as I seek to live to your glory. In
the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.

me physically and spiritually with so many wonderful touches of
your grace. I praise you for your faithfulness. I thank you for
your grace. I exalt your name above every other name and hold it as
a personal treasure. Please be glorified in me -- my speech, my
actions, my influence, my life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Mustard Seed Thoughts: Your Heart's Eyes

ChristWeb.com : Mustard Seed Thoughts
Your Heart's Eyes
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints. Ephesians 1:18 NIV

God is an awesome God! Not only does He save us from an eternity of Hell, but He blesses us with a forever of richness. If you are a child of God, your future is secure! You may not always feel that it is, but trust me, it is!

You have been included in the inheritance of Jesus! Now if I had all the ingredients and I baked a pie, it would be mine, wouldn't it? I would control that pie, and it would be strictly up to me if I gave you any, right? It would be my pie, because I owned everything that went in it, and I invested my time into making it.

That is the way it is with this world and everything in it. God made it, and it is His.

He has decided that if we will put our faith in Him completely, if we will trust in Jesus as our personal Lord a nd Savior, that He will include us in the inheritance of His son. We will be present at the reading of the will, and we won't leave disappointed.

Now I don't know about you, my friend, but I can find hope in that thought. No matter what happens to me today or tomorrow or next week or year, I know I have a future that is protected. The stock market can't take it away, nor can thieves, robbers, moths or rust!

The riches that can't be compared to any other wealth is mine! And that gives me hope!

=========================== TODAY'S ARTICLE ==========================

Wrong Road, Right Friend, by Phil Ware

Sometimes, maybe more often than we would like to admit, we find
ourselves on the wrong road going the wrong direction, headed away from
any lasting source of help, friendship, and hope. It's not that we
intend to be headed in this wrong direction; it's just that the
circumstances and our own disappointments have created the momentum, so
we just go with the flow down the wrong road.

And if we look and listen for it, in our moments of longing and
disorientation, we sense the presence of the Lord. His presence turns
up in any number of ways:

* The surprising lyrics to a song perfectly timed for us.

* The gentle touch and concerned word of a friend or family member.

* The comforting aroma of a meal that evokes a flash of precious
memory.

* The ache and longing of our own heart stirred by God's Spirit.

* The firm touch of a mentor's correction and advice.

* The sense of helplessness when we go to sleep only to awaken with
fresh insight.

* The strange pull on our heart of a Scripture we thought we had long
ago forgotten.

Maybe none of this has happened for you yet. Maybe you only yearn for
it to happen. All I know is that an old, simple, mysterious little
story from the end of the gospel of Luke reminds us that it can happen
for all of us!

Our temptation is to think we know the story, or that it is too long to
read again, but resist those thoughts. Read this story. Let it settle
into your heart. Ask to hear the story fresh, with new ears. Listen to
it as your own story:

Now that same day two of them were going to a village called
Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with
each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and
discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and
walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.

He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk
along?"

They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas,
asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the
things that have happened there in these days?" "What things?" he
asked. "About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet,
powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief
priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death,
and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who
was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day
since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed
us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn't find his
body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels,
who said he was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb
and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see."

He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all
that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer
these things and then enter his glory?" And beginning with Moses
and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the
Scriptures concerning himself.

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus
continued on as if he were going farther. But they urged him
strongly, "stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is
almost over." So he went in to stay with them.

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks,
broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened
and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. They
asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he
talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"

They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the
Eleven and those with them, assembled together and saying, "It is
true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon." Then the two
told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by
them when he broke the bread.

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among
them and said to them, "Peace be with you"

(Luke 24:13-36 TNIV).

I don't know if Cleopas and his friend didn't recognize Jesus because
they were so distracted by their own disappointment or if the Lord
intentionally kept his identity hidden. The way life is, it wouldn't
surprise me if it was a little of both. What I do know, however, is
that many of us ache for a similar experience. We yearn with a holy
fire, a soul longing for an experience of Jesus' presence. We want to
know that he is really present with us. We need to know that our life
matters to him. We long for reassurance that he is not as far off as he
seems. And what makes it really hard, we're not sure we even have the
right to expect the Lord to be present, to show himself, to be real to
us in any tangible way.

I know. I've been there, too. I've felt that "dark night of the soul."
I wasn't sure I could go on. Fear gripped my soul in the deepest
places. And even when the Lord showed himself clearly, it took him
doing the same thing, several years apart, in amazing fashion, for me
to really accept. He met me on my road to Emmaus and I have never been
the same.

And if we listen to this story, especially if we listen to it as our
story, we notice four simple, but amazingly powerful ways that can open
our eyes to see the Lord walking with us on the dark and discouraging
roads we travel.

We experience Jesus' presence when we join others in seeking him
through ...

* Looking for Jesus in the story of Scripture (Luke 24:17-27).

* Serving others warmly and genuinely as if they were Jesus (Luke
24:28-29).

* Living in genuine fellowship and community in Jesus? name (Luke
24:30-32).

* Sharing the good news we have discovered about Jesus with others (Luke
24:33-35).

Go back and look at the story above, and you will find these four
things. And if you go back and listen to Matthew's gospel, you find the
same four things that the Lord has given us to experience -- not know
about or read about, but experience -- His presence.

Looking for Jesus in the Story of Scripture (Matthew 1:18-23)

Serving others warmly and genuinely as if they were Jesus (Matthew
25:34-40)

Living in genuine fellowship and community in Jesus' name (Matthew
18:1-35)

Sharing the good news we have discovered about Jesus with others (Matthew
28:18-20)

Don't settle for less than experiencing Immanuel!

I fear that all too frequently we settle for knowing about Jesus and
hoping to meet Jesus, but not seeking the Lord and experiencing
Immanuel's presence in our daily lives. God has always wanted to
restore the relationship with us that we had with him before sin and
shame separated us from his walking with us in the cool of the day (Genesis
3:8-10). David talked about God's presence in every corner and along
every road our lives take, from conception through death (Psalm
139:1-24). So we shouldn't be surprised when Jesus shares our journeys
as Immanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23). Nor should we surprised to
hear Jesus promise:

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long,
the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I
live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in
my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my
commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. Anyone who loves
me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show
myself to them. ... Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My
Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home
with them (John 14:18-23).

Don't settle for less than experiencing the presence of Immanuel, God
with us. The road is too long and the destination too distant to not
know you are walking with the Savior.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The following questions are for your own thought, for us with a small
group of others, and I'd love to get your responses on my blog:

Do you believe you can experience Jesus' presence in your daily life?

What is the difference between expecting to meet Jesus and simply
trusting he is there with you?

Why would both of these be important?

How do the four ways listed above -- Scripture, Fellowship, Service,
Outreach -- help you best experience Jesus as Immanuel?

* Which of these four ways of experiencing Jesus connects best with
you?

* Which of these four ways do you need to exert more effort to give
you an opportunity to experience Jesus' presence?

* Why are all four important for us?

* Has one of these four ways been more important to you at one point
in your life than today?

I'd love to hear from you on my blog:

Morning & Evening -- Isaiah 53:12 and Lamentations 3:40

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / Charles Spurgeon's MORNING & EVENING http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 30, 2009

MORNING:

"He was numbered with the transgressors."
-- Isaiah 53:12

Why did Jesus suffer himself to be enrolled amongst sinners? This
wonderful condescension was justified by many powerful reasons. In such
a character he could the better become their advocate. In some trials
there is an identification of the counsellor with the client, nor can
they be looked upon in the eye of the law as apart from one another.
Now, when the sinner is brought to the bar, Jesus appears there
himself. He stands to answer the accusation. He points to his side, his
hands, his feet, and challenges Justice to bring anything against the
sinners whom he represents; he pleads his blood, and pleads so
triumphantly, being numbered with them and having a part with them,
that the Judge proclaims, "Let them go their way; deliver them from
going down into the pit, for he hath found a ransom." Our Lord Jesus
was numbered with the transgressors in order that they might feel their
hearts drawn towards him. Who can be afraid of one who is written in
the same list with us? Surely we may come boldly to him, and confess
our guilt. He who is numbered with us cannot condemn us. Was he not put
down in the transgressor's list that we might be written in the red
roll of the saints? He was holy, and written among the holy; we were
guilty, and numbered among the guilty; he transfers his name from
yonder list to this black indictment, and our names are taken from the
indictment and written in the roll of acceptance, for there is a
complete transfer made between Jesus and his people. All our estate of
misery and sin Jesus has taken; and all that Jesus has comes to us. His
righteousness, his blood, and everything that he hath he gives us as
our dowry. Rejoice, believer, in your union to him who was numbered
among the transgressors; and prove that you are truly saved by being
manifestly numbered with those who are new creatures in him.

EVENING:

"Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord."
-- Lamentations 3:40

The spouse who fondly loves her absent husband longs for his return; a
long protracted separation from her lord is a semi-death to her spirit:
and so with souls who love the Saviour much, they must see his face,
they cannot bear that he should be away upon the mountains of Bether,
and no more hold communion with them. A reproaching glance, an uplifted
finger will be grievous to loving children, who fear to offend their
tender father, and are only happy in his smile. Beloved, it was so once
with you. A text of Scripture, a threatening, a touch of the rod of
affliction, and you went to your Father's feet, crying, "Show me
wherefore thou contendest with me?" Is it so now? Are you content to
follow Jesus afar off? Can you contemplate suspended communion with
Christ without alarm? Can you bear to have your Beloved walking
contrary to you, because you walk contrary to him? Have your sins
separated between you and your God, and is your heart at rest? O let me
affectionately warn you, for it is a grievous thing when we can live
contentedly without the present enjoyment of the Saviour's face. Let us
labour to feel what an evil thing this is-little love to our own dying
Saviour, little joy in our precious Jesus, little fellowship with the
Beloved! Hold a true Lent in your souls, while you sorrow over your
hardness of heart. Do not stop at sorrow! Remember where you first
received salvation. Go at once to the cross. There, and there only, can
you get your spirit quickened. No matter how hard, how insensible, how
dead we may have become, let us go again in all the rags and poverty,
and defilement of our natural condition. Let us clasp that cross, let
us look into those languid eyes, let us bathe in that fountain filled
with blood-this will bring back to us our first love; this will restore
the simplicity of our faith, and the tenderness of our heart.

My Utmost For His Highest : "Holiness V. Hardness Towards God"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

March 30, 2009

HOLINESS V. HARDNESS TOWARDS GOD

And He ... wondered that there was no intercessor.

Isaiah 59:16
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=isa+59:16&sr=1

The reason many of us leave off praying and become hard towards God
is because we have only a sentimental interest in prayer. It sounds
right to say that we pray; we read books on prayer which tell us that
prayer is beneficial, that our minds are quieted and our souls
uplifted when we pray; but Isaiah implies that God is amazed at such
thoughts of prayer.

Worship and intercession must go together, the one is impossible
without the other. Intercession means that we rouse ourselves up to
get the mind of Christ about the one for whom we pray. Too often
instead of worshipping God, we construct statements as to how prayer
works. Are we worshipping or are we in dispute with God - "I don't
see how You are going to do it." This is a sure sign that we are not
worshipping. When we lose sight of God we become hard and dogmatic.
We hurl our own petitions at God's throne and dictate to Him as to
what we wish Him to do. We do not worship God, nor do we seek to form
the mind of Christ. If we are hard towards God, we will become hard
towards other people.

Are we so worshipping God that we rouse our selves up to lay hold on
Him so that we may be brought into contact with His mind about the
ones for whom we pray? Are we living in a holy relationship to God,
or are we hard and dogmatic?

"But there is no one interceding properly" - then be that one
yourself, be the one who worships God and who lives in holy
relationship to Him. Get into the real work of intercession, and
remember it is a work, a work that taxes every power; but a work
which has no snare. Preaching the gospel has a snare; intercessory
prayer has none.

Praying with Paul : "The Holy Parade"

-/\/\-----------------------------------------------------------------
\ / PRAYING WITH PAUL from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------

THE HOLY PARADE

1 Corinthians 4:8-13
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=1+Corinthians+4:8-13

Dear Father, king of the ages,

Would that your people were already filled! Would that they were
already rich! Would that they were already kings and sharing the
reign with each other! For then I would be sharing in it too.

We know all this grandeur awaits us in the kingdom that is to
come, but for now, give us the endurance to follow your apostles in
a parade that is a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men.
Many are strong, but we may have to put up with weakness. Many are
held in honor, but we may be held in disrepute. We may have to be
hungry and thirsty, ill-clad, buffeted and homeless, and we may
have to do toilsome labor with our hands.

When I am reviled, help me to bless in return. When I am
persecuted, help me endure. When I am slandered, help me be
conciliatory. To follow your apostles in this parade, I am willing
to become the refuse of the world, the offscouring of all things!

In the name of Jesus, give me a willing heart! Amen.

WJD! -- Do It! -- Matthew 7:24-27

Do It!

"Every person that hears these things I say and obeys is like
a wise man. The wise man built his house on rock. It rained
hard and the water rose. The winds blew and hit that house.
But the house did not fall, because the house was built on
rock. But the person that hears the things I teach and does
not obey those things is like a foolish man. The foolish man
built his house on sand. It rained hard, the water rose, and
the winds blew and hit that house. And the house fell with a
loud noise."

-- Matthew 7:24-27 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
While Nike® may have the trademark on the phrase "Just Do It!" Jesus
certainly said it enough to claim original authorship of the concept.
He is adamant: his teaching is not for philosophical enlightenment, nor
for intellectual musings, nor just for Bible class discussions. The
goal of his teaching is to help people understand what the will of God
is and then do it.

TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, help me today put into my daily routine one aspect of Christian
growth that was not there yesterday. I want to do your will and honor
you for the great love you have for me and for all that you have
already done for me. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray.
Amen.
