Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My
unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be
removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10 NIV
God loves you! That is not going to change.
For several days we are going to be looking at promises of God. I hope
there will be at least one of these that you can apply to your life. You
can depend on the promises of God.
There is a road in my state that has had to close in recent years because of
falling rocks. One time it took several weeks to remove the debris
because there were so many rocks in the road. I drove past this place
shortly after the road reopened. I looked up at the hillside from where
these rocks had fallen and noticed something interesting. The hillside,
which is actually a small mountain, didn't look any different from the
way I had remembered it before. As many rocks that had fallen, there was
really no significant change to the original structure.
"Okay, Ron, good story, now what exactly are you trying to say?" (I heard
you!)
The point is that mountains and hills don't change much. They are fairly
constant in their appearance. It could take years to see a mountain
weather away. Mountains and hills are very stable. God uses this same
principle in describing His love for us. Mountains don't budge, and yet,
even if they could be moved, they could not be compared to God's love
for you and me.
When we think of something being "written in stone" or as "strong as a
mountain" we know it is secure. God's love cannot be described in words.
His love is secure and cannot be moved. In closing I'm reminded of what
Paul wrote in Romans after studying the love of God.
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or
persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to
be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor
life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor
any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus
our Lord."
Praise you Lord, for the promise of your love.
