Mustard Seed Thought: Loaves, Part 5

"I Am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I Am the living bread that came down from Heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." John 6:48-51 NIV

God did a miracle among the Israelites and it was good. He fed them daily with manna and quail and it was good. Jesus did a miracle among the people and it was good. He fed the multitudes with five loaves and two fish and it was good. Please don't let that be the end of your thoughts on these miracles. There is so much more.

Often God does something in our life, such as blesses us with a child, or helps us get a new job, and we thank Him for the gift, but we never fully understand the reality of the blessing. We understand that it is God Himself who is doing the blessing, but we tend to look at the blessing and not the Blessor!

When God fed the Israelites in the wilderness, and when Jesus fed the 5,000 plus women and children, it wasn't just God doing a miracle for the people, it was God giving the people Himself. And that is the greatest miracle of all!

The fact that the same God who created the heavens and the earth would choose to share Himself with sinners like you and me is indeed a miracle. If we get hung up on the miracle, and fail to recognize that fact, we have missed the most incredible part of this journey with God.

It isn't about the miracles. It is about who He is that does the miracles! It isn't about what He does in our life, but about the fact that He is involved in our lives. It isn't about whether He will do great miracles. It is about that He can, and that He is planning a great victory for the children of God! God's greatest miracle is saving a wretch like me! One day He will show Himself great again when He calls me to meet Him face to face. Until then, my job is to trust Him each and every day, not for the bread, but because He is the Bread! He is the Bread of Life.
