Mustard Seed Thought: Motivation 1

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Matthew 18:1 NIV

The disciples were not that different from me (or maybe you). They were concerned about position. They wanted to know that their hard work was going to be rewarded in the Kingdom of God.

Does that sound like a concern of yours? When you do something nice for your neighbor, does it matter or not if they say "thank you"? If they didn't would you help them again?

Recently I was entering the post office. A young man was coming with his arms full of baskets of mail. I held the door open for him. He said nothing. He just walked through the heavy doors, which I stood in the cold to keep open, without recognizing his benefactor. Believe me….I gave him a look!!!!

Why do we serve others? What is our purpose in serving the Kingdom of God? Do we want recognition? Do we seek power or position? Do we desire God to pat us on the back?

Today I want to challenge you to check your motivation. Don't learn from me. I got upset with the guy at the post office. Hold the door expecting nothing! Keep the smile even if there is no "thank you". Serve gladly just because you are a child who is loved by the King of the Kingdom!
