Are you prepared?
Again He asked, "What shall I compare the kingdom of God to?" Luke 13:20 NIV
Jesus didn't know how to put it into terms they could understand. He wanted to. It was just to wonderful for words.
Have you ever wanted to describe something to someone, but you just couldn't come up with the right description. Anything you said would just pale in comparison to the real experience of being there. Christ faced this obstacle when He was asked about God's kingdom.
The English language can only accomplish so much! I remember telling my son about the ocean once before he saw it for the first time. I love the beach. There is something about watching the waves come and go that really gets my attention. I could sit for hours, patiently examining each toss of the tide.
I had prepared my son the best that I could. I wanted him to know the pleasure I had received from my ocean vacations. How, though, do you capture that first ocean experience into a few sent ences?
We drove many hours, much of the time with my son asleep, before we reached the shore. I made him close his eyes as we parked the car. I led him down a path until we were right in the middle of the sandy beach, and then I told him to open his eyes. "Wow!" was his first word. He had the exact reaction I expected....he didn't know what to say.
Heaven will be that way. Jesus couldn't explain it to us now if we wanted Him to. We will just have to be there! It is just too special for words to capture.
And, Jesus can't wait until we are able to come home!
