Offended One
It is harder to win back the friendship of an offended brother than to capture a fortified city. Proverbs 18:19 TLB
This series will help us with the times we offend people. Hopefully you dont need this. If not, you can catch us next week for another series. Chances are, however, that your life is much like mine and you find yourself with broken or damaged relationships because you have offended someone; whether intentional or not. Recognizing that winning back a friendship once someone is offended is hard to do what should we do as believers to make that happen?
Some people more than others, but really all of us, seem at times to have foot in mouth disease. We say or do things that are offensive sometimes intentionally and other times completely unintentional. I think the first step in being non-offensive is to avoid, wherever possible, the disease. We should strive not to be offensive. That sounds sensible, maybe even easy to do, but if you are older than 12 then you probably know its not a simple thing to avoid offending someone. Still, I find that when I have a specific goal in mind Im more likely to carry it through. So, make it a goal to NOT be offensive. When that is your mindset going into a conversation or relationship you will find yourself watching the words you say and the things you do more carefully.
If thats not clear enough for you, then follow the advice of Thumper from the classic movie Bambi. Thumper says, If you cant say something good, dont say nuttin at all.
