Astounding!
The girl stood up and began walking. (The girl was twelve
years old.) The father and mother and the followers were
amazed. Jesus gave the father and mother very strict orders
not to tell people about this. Then Jesus told them to give
the girl some food to eat.
-- Mark 5:42-43 (ERV)
KEY THOUGHT:
There was an immediate change in the "state" of this girl. One moment
she was dead. The next she was alive. Her parents were "absolutely
overwhelmed," and how could they not be? There is no place for us to
put this in the normal range of human experiences. How does one
understand this or even contemplate such an event? Trying to explain it
to someone else does not make sense. Jesus' power over death is
astounding! Jesus is astounding.
TODAY'S PRAYER:
Gracious and Almighty God, your power and grace are astounding. I know
that you have power over death which is at work within me. Help me,
dear Father, to cling to the memories I have of your gracious love and
patience as I try to deal with death personally or confront it through
my friendships with others. In Jesus' name. Amen.
