Faith Really Is...Conclusion
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. Hebrews 11:39-40 NIV
We have looked for several days at the issue of what faith is. The entire eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews deals with this one subject. Verse one provides the most complete and condensed answer "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." I have tried to further illustrate that definition by expanding upon it through some of the verses that follow verse one. The fact is that I could have written similar thoughts about all forty verses in chapter eleven.
So, what does today's title mean when it says "Conclusion"? I certainly haven't told you all there is to know about faith. I doubt this will be the last Mustard Seed I ever do on the subject of faith. So what do I mean by conclusion?
Well, I conclude this look at the topic of faith the same way the writer of Hebrews did, by saying that the real conclusion to this issue is that faith is only fully understood, and the purpose of faith fully accomplished, when it is combined with our obedience to Christ at any cost. In other words, I can tell you all day what I believe faith means. I can write examples and illustrations and summaries about faith until Jesus returns. But, you will not fully understand faith until you put it into practice.
To fully understand faith you need to begin trusting in Christ no matter what life has thrown at you. You have to use your faith; invest your faith; rely on your faith before you will really appreciate what faith is and what it means in your personal walk with Christ.
Trusting in Christ no matter what, and acting accordingly: that really is faith!
