Garden Story 2
When He had finished praying, Jesus left with His disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and He and His disciples went into it. Now Judas, who betrayed Him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples. So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to Him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" John 18:1-4 NIV
Where do you go to rest? Where do you go to pray and spend time alone with God?
Im a proponent of having a set time and place to meet with God. I know there is nothing magical about a location. God resides in the hearts of His people, but there is something special about having a routine of meeting with God. I said that once and someone said, thats being legalistic. Well, I hope its not perceived that way, beca use thats not how I intend it. I just know from personal experience that if I dont have a habit of a quiet time each day, it probably will not happen. I suspect you are much the same as I am. Its not that God is less pleased with me if I dont spend regular time with Him each day. Its that I am not pleased with me. There is something missing from my day when I dont communicate with my Creator.
Of course, my ultimate desire is that I would carry that time with me throughout the day, but you know what life is like. Stuff happens! We get tossed about by just pure circumstances of living to the point that we realize we have left God out of most of the mix. My time alone with the Lord helps keep me grounded in Him.
Evidently Jesus needed that time alone with His Father, as well. We see throughout the gospels Jesus slipping away to be with God. He modeled it for the disciples. During His final days on earth, Scripture places Him in the secret garden again. Jesus knew the pressure He was about to face, and He didnt want to face it alone.
Are you going through something today you dont want to face by yourself? Have you sought out that special place and time to meet with your Maker? He cares. Hes waiting. And, He has the answers!
