Immanuel Four
What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? Deuteronomy 4:7 NIV
Let me establish one central fact: If you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are of the nation of God.
Having said that, would you agree that there is no other nation whose god comes near to man the way our God comes near to us? Think about it. Did Buddha visit "all" his people? Did Mohammed? Go ahead! Try to have a personal conversation with one of them today.
God, since He is the One true God, loved us enough that He wanted to make a way for us to come near to Him. He wanted to be able to reach out to us, and for us to reach out to Him.
There was a problem, however. Sin, which can be defined as anything contrary to God's holiness, kept us from reaching a Holy God. Man tried all kinds of remedies, from living a so-called "good life" to trusting in our own abilities, but everything wind s up short in our attempt to get to God. For centuries the Israelites offered sacrifices, acceptable to God for the sins of the past, but nothing could remedy the real problem, we were sinners by nature.
God, therefore, out of His great love, came near to us through the gift of His Son. Jesus, born of a virgin, entered a sinful world, remaining sinless, so that He could be the perfect sacrifice; once for all; the just for the unjust. We could not get to God, so God came to us.
Through the story of Christmas, the baby in a manger, God made a provision for a sinful man to reach a Holy God. That provision is Jesus. God came near to us through Jesus! We come near to God through Jesus! This year, truly praise Him for the birth of Jesus as you celebrate the joy and wonder of Christmas!
