Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the Lord, �What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?"� He replied, �Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding.� Judges 13:17-18 NIV
Let me refresh your memory. Manoah and his wife had just been told by the angel of the Lord that they would give birth to a child. Though they were childless and his wife was sterile, God would bless them with a mighty son. No razor was to be used on his head because he would be set aside for the Lord. That son would be named Samson.
Now, you can imagine the enthusiasm in Manoah's voice. To be childless was almost like a curse. There was no heritage, no one to carry on the family name. A son was a man's greatest possession. Manoah thought he would never be blessed in this way, and now, all of a sudden, his dream was about to come true. Wouldn't you be excited?
Manoah wants to pay tribute to the angel, but not realizing that the messenger is an angel, he asks for his name. The angel�s reply is simply, �it's beyond understanding.�
Wow! How about that for insight into God and His angels? You and I, in our mortality, cannot understand all the ways of the immortal. Praise God for that! I t reminds me that Heaven is ahead! There will be greatness beyond my imagination, beyond my understanding. Heaven will fulfill my wildest dreams and more!
