New Trust 4
I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, Fly to the mountains for safety! Psalm 11:1 NLT
David, the Psalmist, probably had many people who thought he was crazy. We know his brothers and others thought he was for trying to fight Goliath alone. (1 Samuel 17) Goliath had scared off the entire army of Saul. No one wanted to fight him. David, merely a boy, was willing to fight for his nation seemingly single-handed. We know the whole story though. David was not alone. He had the Lord on his side. As David told Saul, The LORD who saved me from the claws of the lion and the bear will save me from this Philistine!" (1 Sam 17:37) David put the trust for his protection in the God of the Bible.
Who is protecting you? To whom are you looking for strength? Do you expect your bank account to protect you? Do you think if your nation is strong enough you will be safe? Will there ever be adequate police protection so that you will never have to fear thos e who might cause harm to you?
I never want to claim perfection in my spiritual life. I am not sure I am as brave as David was or as bold with my trust in God. I have a security system in my home. I keep my doors and windows locked. I make sure I know where my children are most times. I am trying to be smart and responsible in my role to protect my family, as I think I should be. Ultimately, however, I need to realize that God is the protector of my home and all that is precious to me!
Are you finding yourself more and more worried about how you will protect your family, whether it is financial issues, physical safety, or in their emotional health? To be a good parent I think we should do all we can, relying on Gods help, to protect our family. In the end, however, God alone can keep my family safe.
You and I must continue to place our trust in the Living God of the Bible.
