Don't Be Foolish
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe. Proverbs 28:26 NIV

Now don't get mad at me, I didn't call you a fool! I just quoted God's Holy Word. But if the shoe fits....

Help me out here. Do you ever trust in your own abilities? Do you get overly confident that you can accomplish your goals? Do you find that once you experience success, you begin to look less to God for your strength?

We're all guilty of becoming puffed up over our own qualities. In a world that applauds personal achievement so loudly, it is easy to start to feel self reliant. God has gifted us with certain productive qualities, including such traits as an ego, pride, and the desire to get ahead, all which can be used by God to further His Kingdom if applied appropriately. Often, though, we tend to try to take the glory for our success (and sometimes blame God for our failures). As we put our trust in ourselves, we actually eliminate God from the situation, since God will not share His glory with another.

If we trust in Him, and in Him alone, recognizing that apart from Him we can do nothing, then God becomes an active participant in our lives, molding us and overseeing our every move. Then, not only is He glorified, but His will for us is complete, and we receive the all the blessings of life planned in advance for us to receive. For His as His word says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your pathways straight.

Are you being foolish today? Only you can answer that question.
