Pray For Me
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
They said to Samuel, Do not stop crying out to the Lord our God for us, that He may rescue us from the hand of the Philistines. 1 Samuel 7:8 NIV

It never fails, does it? They always get around to calling on the Lord! Oh, it's easy to forget Him when things are good, but let a little storm come, let a rock get in the saddle, let the bills start to pile up... well, you get the idea! When the going gets tough, people realize they need the Lord.

I have always found this interesting. As a habit, when someone tells me about their problems, I respond by saying, Well, I'll pray for you. Often, I stop right there and pray. Do you know what? Not one person has ever told me not to.

No one has ever said, Don't pray for me or I don't need your prayers. No one turns away an opportunity to be lifted up, not even those with little or no faith in the power of prayer.

In the verse above, the people are asking Samuel to intercede. Sure, the y have drifted from their commitment from time to time. They have turned away from the Lord and followed other gods. They have forgotten the deliverance of God in their lives. (I'm quite sure you and I never have.)

But, then the Philistines come. They're big. They're bad. We havent seen anything like these guys before! Wed better call upon the name of the Lord! You've been there, and so have I.

But shouldn't we call on Him in the good times as well? Aren't you glad He is still there when we do?
