Have you had enough?
By: Ron Edmondson Mustard Seed Thoughts
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, Lord," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. 1 Kings 19:3-5a NIV

The last prophet of the day was at his bitter end. This man, sold out for service to the Creator God, was ready to give back his life. He had preached to the lost and been a great messenger of God's word to the Israelites. He had been the witness of numerous miracles of God in his personal life and in the life of those around him. He had seen the dead raised and the poor provided for through God's great provisions.

Elijah had just witnessed hundreds of Israelites turn from their false worship of Baal back to the God of Abraham, Jacob and Issaac. One of the greatest miracles of the Bi ble had occurred, by God's power and with Elijah's faith and leadership. Elijah was at the prime of his ministry!

And, yet he was ready to die. Jezebel, the wicked queen, had sent a message to Elijah that she intended to have Elijah killed. Elijah was scared. He was terrified! After this spiritual high of seeing the Lord move the mountains, now Elijah was in the middle of a mess! How could it be?

Don't you find comfort in that today? I mean, not that Elijah was distressed enough to want his life to end, but that if this can happen to Elijah, the great and powerful man of God, then it can surely happen to you and me? Doesn't it make you feel better that Elijah, a prophet of the Old Testament, who had personally been fed by the angels (it's never happened to me folks) could struggle through life at times? Don't you gain a little more peace in knowing that if Elijah isn't expected to be perfect, well maybe, just maybe, you and I don't have to be either?

G od didn't strike Elijah down! He lifted Elijah up! He strengthened Elijah for the next task! He encouraged Elijah!

Where ever you are today, whatever you are going through, no matter how low you have gotten, or how deep of trouble you are in....right now...this very second....there is a God waiting just for you! Just like Elijah, God will hear your prayer and strengthen you!

Won't you call on him right now? Tell Him you have had enough!
