Your Satisfaction 2
As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them? Ecclesiastes 5:11 NIV
The more we get, the more we spend. Ever heard that before? Are wealthy people more satisfied than those not so wealthy? Probably not the way we would think they are.
Every time my income has gone up in life, so have my expenses. If you ask me to come up with a list of things I would do if I suddenly came into additional money, it would not take me long to produce the list. I have a feeling that once the list was completed there would be another list in the making. We never run out of places to spend money. Where does it all end?
While I am certain the need for money never ends, certainly the desire for more money can be curtailed as we change what it takes to make us satisfied. In Brazil, having ministered in villages where most people make far less in a year than the average citizen in my country makes in a month, I have seen people who are more satisfied in life than people I know with lots of money. Satisfaction is relative to the desires of a persons heart.
If you want to be satisfied with where you are in life, then you may have to adjust your desires to fit where you are. Instead of always looking for the financial windfall, you may have to start praising God for what you do have. One thing for sure, even if you get whatever it is you are hoping for, there will be another need arise just around the corner of life.
Dear Lord, help us find our satisfaction in You!
