Your Satisfaction 3
The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep. Ecclesiastes 5:12 NIV
In my professional career, I have never had a job where when I leave my place of work, I leave the work behind too. I have always had positions which required me to think about work even when I got home. When I was in retail management, my employees would call me at home. If I went shopping, I was consistently called upon to help out for just a moment. When I went in the insurance business, my phone rang all hours of the night with claim questions or billing issues. When I owned my own company, the worries were always with me. I spent many sleepless nights wondering how I would make payroll or find new business for the company. I am in full-time ministry nowwellthat is enough said.
Solomon is not saying one career choice is advisable over another, but he is making an observation that with a bigger title or larger payc heck, often comes more personal accountability and stress. Sometimes it may not be worth it. Sometimes we should possibly just be satisfied with where we are at the time. The age old saying the grass always looks greener on the other side has a lot of truth in it.
Dear Lord, help us to find ultimate satisfaction in the person of Jesus Christ.
