Is It Me?
Jesus said, "One of you will soon be against me. His hand is
by my hand on the table. The Son of Man will do what God has
planned. But it will be very bad for that person who gives
the Son of Man {to be killed}." Then the apostles asked each
other, "Which one of us would do that to Jesus?"
-- Luke 22:21-23 (ERV)
KEY THOUGHT:
"Is it me?" That's the basic question that the disciples are asking. It
is also the question that we need to be asking when taking the Lord's
Supper. "Is it me, Lord? Is it me?" The Supper is a great time for us
to take seriously our need for self-examination. Let's be honest about
our possible failure in the face of temptation, trial, and persecution.
However, rather than anticipating failure or getting stuck in our past
failures, let's re-commit to serve the Lord faithfully as we share in
the Lord's Supper.
TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I know that I can be weak and vulnerable to temptation and sin.
Without your power working in me through your Holy Spirit, I know I
cannot withstand the onslaught of the Devil's attacks. Please help me
trust fully that your forgiveness frees me to take of the Supper in
spite of failings. Strengthen and empower me to live a pure life and
honor your Son whose sacrifice has cleansed me and made me whole. In
Jesus' name. Amen.
