Components of Jesus' Ministry

Then Jesus told the followers to get into the boat. Jesus
told them to go to the other side of the lake to Bethsaida.
Jesus said that he would come later. Jesus stayed there to
tell the people they could go home. After Jesus said good-bye
to the people, he went into the hills to pray.

-- Mark 6:45-46 (ERV)

KEY THOUGHT:
This whole episode began with Jesus sensing that he and his disciples
needed rest. Part of the signal that this was true was the death of
John the Baptist. However, the people found them and came to them for
help and teaching. Jesus provided for them. Then Jesus, like any great
leader sometimes has to do, protected his disciples and sent them away
while he dealt with the crowds. Yet Jesus knew he needed to get away
and be alone with God, so he sends the crowds away. Ministry is
exhausting. Dealing with people and their issues takes a toll. Being
used by God can be physically taxing. So Jesus seeks rest, especially
in the middle of high ministry demands. Let's learn from the Master!

TODAY'S PRAYER:
O Abba Father, please forgive me and correct me for not resting in your
presence and not spending enough time in prayer. Help me stay on track
with my commitment to properly rest, but to also stay on track in my
prayer life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
